Where There is Smoke There is Fire

You guys may or may not have heard the rumors making their rounds on the internet... well it is confirmed... An Auburn athletics official confirmed to AuburnSports.com Thursday afternoon that DE Jomarcus Savage, S Christian Thompson and LB Marcus Jemison are no longer on Auburn's team and will not return.

This is from Auburn Undercover earlier today:

At least four players who might have played significant roles in Auburn’s plans for next season are no longer parts of the football team.

Gone are sophomore safety Christian Thompson, redshirt freshman defensive end Cameron Henderson, redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jomarcus Savage and redshirt freshman wide receiver Philip Pierre-LouisAuburnUndercover.com has learned.

The circumstances of their departures, sources said, vary. Whether there could be opportunities for some to return is not clear.

On Wednesday, the lockers of tne four players at the football complex had been cleaned out and nametags removed, sources said.

In a Facebook message, Henderson told AuburnUndercover.com he expects to rejoin his teammates for workouts next Monday. That could not be independently confirmed.

First-year head coach Gene Chizik is on vacation and could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Thompson, from St. Thomas-Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, played in 10 games last season and was in on one tackle.

Former offensive coordinator Tony Franklin had big plans for Pierre-Louis, also from St. Thomas-Aquinas, last season. But Pierre-Louis suffered a knee injury on the season’s opening kickoff, underwent surgery and missed the remainder of the season. He did not participate in contact work during spring practice.

Savage, from Johnson High School in Huntsville, played early in the season at defensive end but couldn’t overcome shoulder problems. He underwent surgery and was granted a medical redshirt. He was moved to defensive tackle in the spring.

Henderson, from Shades Valley High School, did not play last season.

Thompson’s departure is the second blow to Auburn’s secondary, one of the team’s strengths. Cornerback/safety Aairon Savage suffered an apparent Achilles injury working out. His status for the season is uncertain.

If Henderson does not return, there could be an opportunity for a newcomer. Only senior Antonio Coleman and juniors Antoine Carter and Michael Goggans have previous game experience among defensive ends.

Help me clear this up

First paragraph: DE Jomarcus Savage, S Christian Thompson and LB Marcus Jemison are no longer on Auburn’s team and will not return.

Fourth paragraph: Gone are sophomore safety Christian Thompson, redshirt freshman defensive end Cameron Henderson, redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jomarcus Savage and redshirt freshman wide receiver Philip Pierre-Louis, AuburnUndercover.com has learned.

Total:
1. Jomarcus Savage
2. Christian Thompson
3. Marcus Jemison
4. Cameron Henderson
5. Philip Pierre-Louis

Huh

HONEST NONE ARGUMENT INCITING QUESTION

So was the secondary the Auburn concern going into the spring or was that supposed to be a strength on D before the injury and this? Is it still a strength?

Not trying to do my usual schtick just the doc and everyone else seems to think ya’ll will need a solid defense to help an offense that getting to know itself

WARNING small parts that could be a choking hazard

We haven't had

a strong secondary in years. With the injuries we have had and now this I think we will be worse off than usual in rthe secondary.

Reports

Early reports were that the 5 total were off the team. That turned out to be that some were removed from the team, and other were just suspended. The conformation from Auburn Athletics office should be what happened.

I am sure more reports of this will come out in the near future.

Can someone explain to me why in the hell

Chizik is on vacation? He has yet to play a game. Should he not be working on recruiting right now?

I think the entire coaching staff has been working non-stop since their hire. I don’t begrudge them a little time off.

Ditto...

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

when

you are as far behind in talent as AU is right now…you don’t take time off…these guys get paid WAY to much to coach game to be chillin on a beach….especially since they haven’t proven anything yet.

Nice

Maybe you conveniently forgot about that trip. I believe that little escape from the tomfoolery was a few short months before the epic tragedy of 17 November 2007, also known as ULM. I think that was right before $aban started his first season at UAT, before proving anything yet. Come on, the guy is averaging 7 wins a year and takes summer vacations? That’s $571,000 per win. Talk about economic injustice for the poorest in Alabama.

hmmm

my guy who just reeled in another top recruit is NOT on vaca…and your guy who hasn’t done a DAMN thing is taking a break…

Sorry…Chizik can’t afford brakes right now.

OH and a coach who is already well known for recruiting AND has NC under his belt gets to go to a lake house if he wants..

Shame on us

for forgetting the proper way to run a program. Thanks Alabama for opening our eyes…

anytime….but if you guys (besides Gump) aren’t upset that your “guy” is taking a brake after only being on the job for a few months, then that shows just how far you guys have not come.

Just sayin…if i was watching my biggest rival rack up big recruits one after another and my team wasn’t then….

by bammer on Jun 27, 2009 3:30 PM CDT up reply actions

I would have to agree.

Taking a break does not seem like the best idea right now, especially if some people are now gone and we know we need to improve is some areas.

Breaks are for after you achieve something. The season is still a while away.

To me it seems ok

considering he will probably not break again until this time next year. I’m sure he is going to come back and be pushing hard for the 2009 season, our opponents and especially La. Tech. I’m thinking that maybe Chizik decided that this is the time he can most afford a break since he’ll running crazy until December from here on out.

The only time

he should be on vacation is immediately following a season. Just because we aren’t playing games doesn’t mean the machine isn’t still turning. I guarantee that everyday he is on vacation a hopeful auburn recruit that isn’t getting a call from us is getting one from some other team

This definitley isn’t good. BUT, if it was for misbehavior then so be it. I don’t want shenanigans on or around the team.

Actually,

Chizik is doing the right thing here. Trim the fat, get rid of the dead weight, cull the herd, (whatever you want to call it). In the end this will be a wise move and it might light a fire under some other tails that are sitting on the hotseat.

Philip Pierre-Louis and Cam Henderson are still on the team. The other three are gone, but those two aren’t.
