Recruiting Thoughts
If you are reading anything about
Don’t get me wrong, I think that it is great that Coach Chizik and his staff are willing to push the envelope so that we can actually get some recruits to visit.
I know that we are talking about minor issues… but they are issues nevertheless. We have not had the NCAA looking at our Football program in a while. What are your thoughts on it?

While i understand that....
The NCAA hasn’t looked our way in quite some time, If we don’t start making some noise and pushing the envelope a lil alot of recruits will continue to pass us over. Right now recruits looking at Auburn have nothing to base their interests on. We are coming off, by all accounts, a terrible season, We have a new coaching staff with a new system, Depth is a problem in alot of areas (which could be a plus in some recruits minds), and Most are picking us in the bottom half of the SEC. Anotherwords, with the other schools in the SEC (FL, LSU, Ga., and even, please shoot me now, UA.) are on a tear. Each of those schools are brighter futures for the prospects. The attention is on those schools right now and we have to do something to turn their attention our way. All the while trying not to pull a Lane Kiffin (His wife is sooo hot). So if pushing the envelope a lil now to build momentun for the future is needed then i say go for it. Just be careful not to do things that will be considered too out of bounds. Which i don’t think that what they have been doing can be considered too out of bounds.
Walk that tight rope coaches just don’t fall off.
Nawwwww ...
you put yourself above reproach. After all, selling class and professionalism at Auburn has gotten a lot easier given the competition in tuskaluzer.
Fluff, hype, limos, and toilet paper do not win ballgames or recruits. Can you imagine Lombardi … or Shug … or even Dye doing the things Chizik has already done? Even worse, I do not trust Chizik. I’ll say it again … I fear Chizik is a problem that will ultimately grow in to a black eye for Auburn and yet another Jacobs crisis.
Ever wonder why God painted a beautiful sky blue and a breathtaking sunset orange?
Very general comment
I read a little on here about the Big Cat weekend and saw a reference earlier this week regarding potential “secondary” violations – that is all the background I have to inform me.
With the foregoing in mind, I am quite pleased to see the new coaches taking an aggressive approach to recruiting – AU needs it to generate the “buzz” and begin to get some of the “top” guys to commit. Good for them is what I say – be creative and use every legitimate means available to them to bring in the big cats.
Tommy T & company had that fire (good example was taking a whole boat load up to Caddy’s house), but he lost the fire, and it is no surprise that the loss of recruiting fire ultimately contributed to (but was not the sole cause of) the end of his tenure on the Plains.
Question here...
And I’m asking out of ignorance…Who cares about secondary violations? Do they eventually “add up” to major violations? Hasn’t UT turned in Kiffin 33 or 34 times (kidding) this year already? Is anything actually going to happen to UT because of this?
I’m not saying that I want to intentionally break rules, but if the NCAA doesn’t actually punish schools for secondary violations, then why should coaches go out of their way to ensure they aren’t breaking obscure rules? It seems that not only is the reward worth the risk, but the risk is also not worth the hassle to prevent.
Until the NCAA “cracks down” on secondary violations, who cares?
You beat me to it.
I have never heard of any school being punished for a secondary violation. Why does the NCAA even have them if nothing is done about them?
The only thing I can think of is if you pick up to many that they may lead to “lack of institutional control” or “failure to monitor” violations. Or maybe if you get caught in a major violation, then they take them into account. But if that is not the case, then what is the point?

i would think that at some point
if a team racked up enough or continually broke certain rules, that those could either add up to a major infraction or get the NCAA’s attention.
‘When you build a house and you make it hurricane-proof by putting certain kinds of windows in it, and use cement instead of stick construction and all that kind of stuff, you’re getting prepared for what? A hurricane that may or may never every come." ’We’re going to have 12 hurricanes next year, we know they’re coming.’

Yeah, but that is just an assumption on your part.
Kiffin has already shown that you can have at least 8 secondary violations in a 6 month time span and have ZERO punishment handed your way.
I don’t think anyone knows the answer to this, which means it is a huge loop hole that Kiffin and now Chizik seem to be taking advantage of. You can call them dirty or whatever you want, but if it works it works.
Im not sure who's calling them dirty
i for one am not. But if you think the NCAA is not watching Kiffin then you’re crazy. Sure he stirred the pot this past 6 months but he also got the attention of the NCAA. So these “minor infractions” won’t bring punishment but it has brought on the ever watchful eye of the NCAA.

I did a little seaching and have not found any case where secondary violations added up to a major one. It would appear to me that they mean something though… otherwise they would not be a violation at all. My guess is that it goes on record as a violation, and then the NCAA can use those a probable cause to look into other violations which could be of the major variety.

I just wandered over to Team Speed Kills.
It seems they are talking about this very same topic there…

it could go to showing
lack of institutional control

If I'm not mistaken
secondary violations usually result in a warning are recorded as a matter of record with the NCAA with the stipulation that they not be repeated.
Maybe we could ask Nick Saban for his advice as he seems to have become an expert at committing secondary violations. LOL
would you like to provide some examples of these
violations he’s committed? You can’t really blame him for the text book thing, that was a problem with the way the text books were being distributed. So what has he done that makes him an expert?
Does the "Saban Rule" ring a bell???
It’s a fact that UA has self reported a handful of secondary violations that Saban directly committed himself. Please refer to the “Bump Rule” AKA Saban’s favorite infraction.
The Saban rule wasn't put into force
because he was committing violations, it was put into force because the NCAA wanted to help out the lazy coaches (like Tuberville) who weren’t willing to go out in the spring and work hard with recruiting. I can only remember one “bumping” incident and I can’t even remember if we reported a secondary violation for it because it came out of Miami right after he left the Dolphins and was more than likely people mad at Saban for leaving.
Other than that, I can’t think of any other secondary violations that have been committed. Kiffin committed more violations his first month on the job than Saban has since he’s been at Bama, and possibly his whole career as a coach.
I like seeing Auburn pushing the envelope. The legends are the ones who changed the game, i.e., they had to change the rules for them. While I hate his guts, the Bear would give out swimming scholarships to get kids to go to bama. Now while that’s lame, and hence has since obviously has been disallowed, it worked. It changed the game. It all starts with recruiting, and anything the staff does to bring it too a new level (imagine if we got the number 1 AND number 2 running back in the nation in the ‘10 class) I’m in support of. wde
I don't think any rules violations...
…..occurred. I think some folks from other schools were spiteful, in a “why didn’t we think of this?” sort of way. Someone posts “NCAA violations” on a message board, journalists like Ray Melick read it, and away you go!
…..Now the NCAA may well end up outlawing Tiger Prowl and Big Cat, after the fact. Kind of like the SEC outlawing oversigning after Houston Nutt’s 37-man recruiting class this year.
Secondary is just that...
Just don’t commit any while on Probation! That’s where the big trouble comes in with secondaries.
I for one would like it if the NCAA never came calling to Auburn, because it has no reason to. Don’t want them, don’t need them.
WAR EAGLE!
i just want yall to
get more pics of Chizik in Auburn gear…..the same 3 pics are getting annoying..
