Auburn Gets Little Respect From League Coaches
By my count, we are officially seven weeks from kickoff with Louisiana Tech. A sure sign the season is here is the annual SEC Media Days in Birmingham. It starts on Wednesday and concludes with Auburn coaches and players talking with the media on Friday.
In preparation for next week, the SEC released its All-Conference teams yesterday as voted on by the coaches. As expected, there wasn't a lot of love given to Auburn. Considering all the attention they got last year, maybe it's a good sign the league coaches don't think a lot of Gene Chizik's first team.
Nine of the 12 conference teams were represented on the first team. Only Auburn, Vanderbilt and Miss State missed out. Anytime you're mentioned with these two, you know the outlook is bleak.
The most decorated Tiger is defensive end Antonio Coleman who was picked to the second team. That's surprising considering Coleman has made more than one second-team All-American team in the various preseason publications. Offensive lineman Lee Ziemba also made the second team. Running back Ben Tate, who will be in a struggle to stay with the first unit, was picked third team by the coaches.
How's this for expectations? Florida placed 16 players on the three teams including eight on the first team. Has there been a more consensus number one team in college football in the last 25 years? It all points to a big letdown in Gainesville. Here's a link to the SEC website showing all of the selections.
Joining Coach Chizik in Birmingham will be tight-end Tommy Trott and Coleman. Each will take questions from the media. Below is the lineup...
Wednesday, July 22
Arkansas: DT Malcolm Sheppard and TE D.J. Williams
Vanderbilt: C Bradley Vierling and CB Myron Lewis
Mississippi State: OT Derek Sherrod and LB K.J. Wright
Kentucky: OT Zipp Duncan and CB Trevard Lindley
Thursday July 23
Alabama: OL Mike Johnson and LB Rolando McClain
Georgia: QB Joe Cox and DT Jeff Owens
Ole Miss: QB Jevan Snead and DE Greg Hardy
Florida: QB Tim Tebow and LB Brandon Spikes
Friday, July 24
Auburn: TE Tommy Trott and DE Antonio Coleman
South Carolina: WR Moe Brown and LB Eric Norwood
LSU: OT Ciron Black and LB Jacob Cutrera
Tennessee: S Eric Berry and TB Montario Hardesty

About Coleman's selection...
that’s crap. Yes, I’m an Auburn fan, but Auburn fan or not, Coleman should definitely be a first-team selection. He’s arguably the best defensive end in the conference (Greg Hardy, when healthy, is pretty dang good, too). Just goes to show you how much respect—or lack there of— that Auburn gets on a national level.
Well, as they say
it ain’t how you start, it’s how you finish…lets see how many we have at the end of the year.

PREDICTONS
AUBURN will be the most difficult team to predict. Don’t think for one minute that the league isn’t watching. And one certain team close by that recently had a huge 6 game losing streak is very concerned. They don’t EVER want to go through the Hell they experienced losing 6 in a row especially to a team within their own state.
I'm fine with it.....
they have all just placed the chip squarely on the teams shoulders and that is historically a good thing for our Tigers. Efff em all and feed em fish heads.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
Hmm

Not quite sure how you reached that conclusion. I’d say it points to a juggernaut winning its third NC in four years.

Coleman's aweseome...
……when he’s healthy. He’s had a tendency to stay nicked up. Opponents called running plays to the other side, or up the middle, mostly, last year.
……Florida’s loaded, but it will be tough for ‘em, this year. Everyone will have their number, and will bring their best efforts and strategy for the Gators. The media will moan if Florida doesn’t blow everyone out. It’s hard being top dog…
FWIW
Auburn was 10-0 and ranked 3rd in the country when it rolled into Athens on my season of NCAA 2010. The video game gods smile upon Auburn if nothing else.

Expectations
of Auburn being bad are exactly what we need right now. Gives the players all the more reason to prove them all wrong. My only expectation is that the offense should be more interesting this year and none of that looking over at the sidelines garbage like last year.
I feel like
respect should be earned. 5-7 get’s no respect.
You'll have to excuse us...
It’s been a while since we went 5-7. We’re not as used to it as you are…

We've got a very similar roster to last year's
And many thought we were one of the most talented squads in the SEC if not College FB. We’ve just got to get it together on the field. Last year it didn’t carry over. This year, hopefully it will.
