It looks like Fl State beating BYU and Washington knocking of USC cost us a top 25 ranking. We should slide in after Ball State next week.

Loaded schedule

on the backend. When we get to the meat of our schedule, and IF we can win those games, we’ll get respect. Until we show that we can compete with the big boys, we will continue to skirt around in the 30s.

Score aside....

our win wasn’t impressive enough. Too many voters will think WVU gave us the win instead of us taking it from them.

What makes me sick is that USC loses to a team that was winless last year and they only drop 7 spots????!!! Pete Carroll does this once a year and yet they try and perpetuate this fiction that USC is an elite program. Try to imagine Alabama losing to Vandy or Miss St. this year. What about Texas losing to Iowa St? IMPOSSIBLE!! And there is USC gettting no real penalty for an INEXCUSABLE loss. I don’t care if they win the rest of their games they should be removed from BCS title consideration.

BYU gets utterly embarrassed AT HOME by and unranked and disrespected FSU team and they are still in te top 20???!!!

Its OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

On what day did the Lord create Bear Bryant and couldn't he have rested on that day too?

by Col.Angus on Sep 20, 2009 2:21 PM CDT reply actions

Couldn't agree with you more on this Col.

The ranking system we currently have is a damn joke. The writers and voters in these polls couldn’t look me in the eye with a striaght face and explain this bullcrap. USC gets good talent for sure, but they play about 2 real games a year. BYU foolishly stumbled into the top 10 by beating a Bradford-less Oklahome team. Its all a complete joke and I wish there was more real reporting on this by networks like ESPN and the such.

Nebraska being ranked above AU is obnoxious.....

and just plain effin stupid. I don’t care if they played well enough to win and I don’t care if it took last minute heroics for VT to beat them…….THEY FREAKING LOST PEOPLE! They are 2-1 and have beaten no one. Absolutely unbelievable. Ga Tech and Utah drop out of the ranking and are replaced by Nebraska and and FSU in one pole and Nebraska and FSU in the other? Nebraska gets ranked because of a Loss? Really? How absolutely pathetic is that? FSU goes from needing a miracle to beat a cupcake division 1AA school to being ranked? The voters need a reality check……..and that goes as much for the coaches poll as it does the AP.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

by Todd92 on Sep 20, 2009 3:26 PM CDT reply actions

Hehe....

You tell ’em Todd.

Its ok. If we keep winning there is no way they can ignore us. One extra week in the top 25 isn’t gonna make any difference in the end. Win and everything else will follow.

Good to see the guys not fold like last year. Throwing up their arms at the first site of adversisty. Those guys worked hard and never gave up on their game plan. That kinda win builds monster character in a team. Work on special teams!!!

The recruits loved it too. After watching the fans stay through all the storm, and pack out the stadium. Watching Auburn come back and win in the end when everything looked so bad in the beginning. Watching our coaches interact with the team during the game with such excitement. It was a great night for the recruits to see first hand what is like to play for Auburn. The 12th man was definitely in the house and it looked good to the recruits.

Very good win…..

Speaking of which...

How is our recruiting going anyway?? We were making lots of noise during the summer and then it just stopped. Though, having said that, we certainly have gotten some bigger names as of late. Were any of the recruits there last night big names??

by Sparkey on Sep 20, 2009 4:42 PM CDT up reply actions

I think there were several big names in town last night

I want to say Michael Dyer was there, maybe Lache Seastrunk.

To restate myself...

Come on down Seastrunk and Dyer. This is the kind of family that will support you through thick and thin. We stay through the weather and we love you win or lose. This is the Auburn family, come join it.

by Sparkey on Sep 20, 2009 4:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Recruiting is going great we just signed a 4 star

in state linebacker. We had a WR visit out of LA rated as one of the top 10 ten Wide outs in the country Trovan Reed at the game yesterday and he is already raving about Auburn.

by AU04Natlchamps on Sep 20, 2009 4:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah I hear you...

I just wish we had more commitments than what we do. I guess those top stars like to keep us hanging until the last second.

by Sparkey on Sep 20, 2009 4:53 PM CDT up reply actions

It was nice to get

LaDarius Owens, Sabin was pushing hard for him. If we pick up Dyer it will be a huge boost to the class. See the comments Dyer made on rivals.com below. Reed also made the comment the fans sticking it out through the rain showed him allot.

“It was amazing. The fans are probably the best fans I’ve seen in my life,” Dyer said. "To stay out there in the rain — a 30-minute delay and they were still out there cheering. That was pretty exciting .After the Little Rock (Ark.) Christian standout’s visit to the Plains this weekend, the Tigers have moved one step closer to securing his commitment.

“Still the same. It’s Auburn,” Dyer said when asked about his leader. “You can’t get no better than that. I really enjoy all the coaches here. It’s like a family here. It’s what I need and what I want to be a part of. It keeps me coming back.”

by AU04Natlchamps on Sep 20, 2009 5:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Sounds like Dyer is on his way

Now if we can just get Seastrunk. Plus, linemen linemen linemen. Did I mention linemen?

by Sparkey on Sep 20, 2009 5:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Regarding Dyer.

He said after the game that he wants to make his announcement in the next few weeks but told Auburn fans “Not to worry about it”. The common thing going around now is that their next home game is Oct. 2 and that they think he will call a press conference then to make it.

As for Reed, he has narrowed it to us, Florida and LSU and he loves our fans.

Mosely was impressed. I think our recruiting is in good shape, I think that we will end up in great shape.

I personally would rather a kid take his time on this decision no matter what it is in the end. You have to realize that this is their life and their future and it would be foolish to commit somewhere they ultimately don’t love. I hate seeing kids commit and then decommit and then commit somewhere only to sign somewhere else. It shows that they are giving into pressure and committing before they are ready.

It's Trovon

We’ve got to get their names right, that is rather important ;)

He got it right sparkey.....

lol….don’t know where you got trovon…..

Great Point

They are average at best and they blew it. We are 3-0.

by AU04Natlchamps on Sep 20, 2009 3:39 PM CDT reply actions

There is a huge problem with preseason polls.

I think that if the polls waited for the first couple of weeks of play, then teams would not load up with cupcakes in the beginning (Bama and Ole Miss, I am talking to you!). It is easy to stay in the Top Ten when you play 1AA tech from anywhere, south eastern USA. Also, the polls might actually reflect who is number 1 in the nation, and not just number 1 because they landed there in the preseason and haven’t lost a game yet. The present system makes it harder for teams that are busting their ass to get into the polls. USC should have dropped to at least 20. You shouldn’t be able to lose a game and then suddenly be ranked when there are other teams that are still unranked.

It seems like Auburn always has to work harder for respect. I am not worried about it, because this team will be too hard to ignore in a couple of weeks. Happily, this team does not understand the meaning of ‘QUIT’.

by Tiger on the mountain on Sep 20, 2009 7:02 PM CDT reply actions

USC remaining in the top 10...

is one of the most shameful rankings ever. They lost to an unranked team that went winless last year. It’s completely rediculous.

what exactly are you saying?

Did you forget bama’s season opener? if vt is cupcake, then auburn beating wv shouldn’t even make a blip on the national radar.

by Bret on Sep 20, 2009 10:05 PM CDT up reply actions

I would be surprised

If WVU did not beat V tech head to head, I mean Nebraska at home going to the wire. Really ?

by AU04Natlchamps on Sep 20, 2009 10:09 PM CDT up reply actions

you're insane.

Virginia Tech plays better defense than Auburn, and regardless of how bama made them look, they have some good athletes on offense too.

by Bret on Sep 20, 2009 10:33 PM CDT reply actions

You're absolutly right.

other than the fact that in game one, VT had about 150 yards of offense. Game two they put up about 600 yards of offense against Marshall and then came back with 270 yards against Nebraska in week three. Having one good game on offense out of three doesn’t mean that you have a good offense.

Keep telling yourself that they really have a good offense, but I will tell you that you are just lying to yourself. The strength of VT is in the special teams and defense, if you argue something, it should be that Alabama beat them in both of these.

by Mattco on Sep 21, 2009 5:41 AM CDT up reply actions

Aww, Come on Mattco

You can’t tell a bammer anything about winning. If they won the game then they won it everywhere. If they beat a team by 1 point on a last second touchdown pass for 85 yards then they’ll tell you that they beat the hell outta the other team. And that their opponent was one of the best teams in all of college football. Its a fact of their arrogance.
