Catch and Release: Jones and Ingram Released from NCAA Hook

Me and Julio, down by the Gulf stream...
Just when we had all of RBR coming over to our site for updates, the NCAA ruled around 7pm EST today that both Julio Jones and Mark Ingram will be allowed to pay Saturday provided they play back the value of the fishing trip to charity.
Whoops! Freudian slip!
They also stipulated that both players should hose down the boat, empty the crapper bucket, carry all the rod and reels back to the truck, rinse the live well and carry off all the beer cans that are still left in the boat cooler.
Stated the NCAA, which may soon stand for Necessary Continuing Audit of Alabama:
"The NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff has reinstated the eligibility of University of Alabama football student-athletes Julio Jones and Mark Ingram based on a condition of repayment.
"According to the facts of the case submitted by Alabama, the student-athletes received impermissible food, lodging, transportation and entertainment from an individual with whom one of the student-athletes had become acquainted prior to enrolling in college.
"Consistent with NCAA membership requirements, the institution reported the violation and declared the student-athletes ineligible. As part of the reinstatement request, the institution required the student-athletes to make repayment of the value of the impermissible benefits to charity.
"During the reinstatement process, the NCAA staff considers a number of factors including guidelines established by the NCAA Division I Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement, relevant case precedent, the student-athlete's responsibility for the violation, as well as any mitigating factors presented by the institution.
All's well that ends well. It looks like Alabama did the right thing and it paid off. Good for them. Now on to the next vast right-wing conspiracy for we Barners to cook up.

Well...
at least this is over. Personally, I am glad they are able to play. I always thought this was a non-story
If you are a War Damn Eagle, you can War Damn anything.
This is ridiculous.
If the NCAA deemed the guy no affiliation, why do they have to pay for trip? So if I was friends with a couple of the players and had a beach house, I couldn’t invite them to come hang for a weekend? That is an extremely stupid rule.
If preferential treatment wasn’t the reason for the trip, then why does it have to be paid back?
Matt, you have it exactly right. If there is no infraction, why is there a penalty?
This means you can’t have friends who are football players because if you buy them a birthday present, or pay for dinner (it’s your turn this week, they paid last week), then the NCAA will investigate.
It might be because Alabama is on the hotseat, so the NCAA is going overboard (on the fishing trip, heh), and so they’re all wet (make it stop).
"Reinstated the eligibilty?"
I wasn’t aware they ever lost it. So now they have to repay the dude for the trip, but they aren’t allowed to have jobs. NCAA does it again, kudos.

Nazi protocol can be weird
APPARENTLY when the University submitted its report to the NCAA the University found no violations but in turning their investigation over the UNIVERSITY deemed the athletes ineligible until it got word back from the Gestapo
Well this blog entry was just more of the same old Iron Bowl back and forth with both sides bringing in a dash of reasonable argument amidst a gallon of loathing
It wasn’t until ESPN and Holly on SMQ (I mean Doc S) posted the possibility of the players sitting that Alabama fans hit the crazy button.
We hit it hard, aggressively, and frequently.
If you wish to keep your sanity, stay away from the Rivals message boards.
BUT then Pete over at RBR calmed us all down and a couple of hours later all was right with the world.

Damn
How stupid are the people that frequent RBR? I sat there and read how they think we’re the ones causing this whole thing. That the guy is secretly trying to get rid of Alabama players because he’s actually an Auburn booster is apparently the predominant theory over there. The people over there are even more ridiculous than we are over here. I ABHORE STUPID PEOPLE.
