Get Fired UP!
(It's AUBURN FOOTBALL Season!)
(Auburn vs. Louisiana Tech Open Thread)
War Eagle, everybody! It's time for week one, of the 2009 college football season! Here's hoping Auburn's Chizik debut is a brighter one than the torrential downpour happening up here this morning, in the Tragic City. In a few hours, we'll find out what the Auburn football team has in store for us. Gene Chizik admitted this week, that he wasn't sure, either.
We got an interesting look at a Malzhan-like offense, last night, watching Tulsa at Tulane. With a freshman quarterback, it was hardly a well-oiled machine, but Tulane still had a lot of trouble defending it. The announcers kept talking about what an even matchup it was, but I saw a Tulsa team jump out to a 17-0 first quarter lead, and never look back. With 5th year senior quarterback Chris Todd running the show, and green Tech corners, they may not know what hit 'em. I'd look for a bubble screen on Auburn's first offensive play.
Check back frequently today, and give us your thoughts! We'll be here, all day, enjoying football. It's finally back! War Eagle!

War Damn Eagle!

War Eagle!!!!
But please, no bubbles screens. We saw too many bubble screens and read options last season.
Yeah
I’d rather see two straight runs, and then a play action bomb(Todd’s arm allowing).
If hip hop is dead, then it happened the day that Dilla died.

I can't wait.
I can’t believe its finally upon us. I’m really hoping for an improvement on last season. We’ve got to be waaaay more poolished all around. Oh well only time will tell.
WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!
War Eagle
Let's go.
I can’t wait for kickoff. Time to show all the doubters wrong.
I wish the Auburn fan base a great day..
WAR DAMN EAGLE!!
Very excited!
I am excited to see (or hear on the internet radio) how the Tigers are doing! I expect to see a cohesive team this year, which will be a welcome change from last. War Damn Eagle!

Internet radio
I can’t get ESPNU since I don’t have digital cable. Does anyone know where to listen to it on the net? It doesn’t look like ESPN360 is carrying it.
Auburn ISP Network is who telecast the game on radio or Auburntigers.com
should be able to link you to where you can hear it
That's how
I listen to games. You have to pay something like $6.95 a month for access, but you get to hear the broadcast as if you were listening to an alabama radio station…which is pretty cool.

Count me...
…..among those who thought that this one would be on ESPN360.com. Radio only, it seems, where I am.
Auburn does have...
…..the 3-0 lead, and seemed to be moving the ball decently, from the sounds of it!
Auburn goes in the hole...
…..as Adam Herring is beaten for the TD. Auburn gave up 3 15-yard penalties on the drive, and trails 7-3. McFadden flagged for interference, Etheridge on a facemask, then Goggins on a facemask. Not the way Ted Roof envisioned starting.
in Walt's defense,
That might have been one of the worst P.I calls I have seen. he made contact after the ball went past the receiver and was 3 yards above him. Way uncatchable.
Gotta play clean
Those penalties killed us. UGH!
End of the first quarter...
…..and Auburn leads 10-7. The Bulldogs have the ball though, on a 3rd down and short near midfield.
The brightside of the defense so far.
They are flying around the field. They are playing fast, they are just out of position some so far and playing a little sloppy with the two face masks.
1st quarter...10-3 Auburn...
corners are’nt wanten to get beat over the top cuz they have a true freshman safety
A big sack off the blitz...
…..by Craig Stevens. And that’s more sacks than he had ALL YEAR, last year!
Our defense
is bending a little too much. We need to get their offense off the field a little faster a few times and set a good pace.
Now ...
Let’s capitalize on this good fortune!!!
The weakness of that...
…..wrap-around handoff is that DL guys will start raking at the back’s arms. Can result in a lot of fumbles.
I really dislike
how they are using Burns so far. They need to let him throw it once or twice to keep the defense honest.
It sure seems....
…..that we have NOT fixed our awful short coverage in the middle, from last season.
Bynes...
……is just like he was last year. His name has not been called all game. No run support, disappears in coverage.
seriously
these face masks calls are ridiculous. what happened to incidental, are they now just nonexistent?
Jenkins...
……has been deadly. I think he hit his first ten passes of the game, till Thorpe knocked that long one away.
this game is starting to suck
The rules are getting ridiculous. Stuff happens on the field and there is a huge difference between grabbing somebodies mask and brushing it.
Tech will burn a time out.
……1:27 left in the half, Auburn leads 10-7, but Tech threatens, 2ne and 10 from the Auburn 18.
3rd and goal...
……Tech uses their last timeout. Not Auburn, just a lack of getting the play in on time.
Auburn has next to no time.
……If they have any trickeration on kick returns, this might be the time to use it.
And Trott...
……fumbles the return of the squibb. I see his hands are about the same as previous years.
Despite a bevy of mistakes, turnovers, and penalties....
……Auburn STILL has the lead at half! Auburn MUST choke up on the coverage in the 2nd half. We’re lettting them nickel and dime us to death underneath. Jenkins needs to feel the heat.
If you want a laugh...
…..Look at ESPN’s halftime box score, on the rushing. Who the heck is Caleb Blanton? How did he get 2 carries for Auburn?
Mario Fanin, Cody Burns, Ben Tate look great
Need to get a pass rush and cover their receivers better
Honestly,
……there’s a lot to disappointed about, in this game. We’re encouraged, because I think Auburn is dominating on both lines of scrimmage. But, 4 keys:
1. Penalties. 67 yards in a half is horrendous.
2. Wide Receivers. Trooper Taylor was supposed to make a difference. Darvin Adams had a drop, and we’ve got exactly 1 catch for 10 yards out of those guys. Kinda like Monroe, last year. Negligible production out of the receiving corps.
3. Ball security. Tate, Trott, Fannin. Can’t let that ball loose!
4. Defense in the middle. Jenkins CANNOT be allowed to chew up double digit yards scrambling up the middle! And we NEED to knock those slant and smash guys OFF THEIR PINS when they cross. Bynes, in the Tampa-2, that’s your job! You drop, and disrupt those patterns!
Washington!
…..Jenkins floated that one up, and Darren Bates gives it back to the Auburn offense! War Eagle!
Silas Daniels, see ya...
…..later! Terrell Zachary’s bomb replaces Daniels in the record book. Daniels, if you’ll recall, got his against La Tech, early in the 2nd half of homecoming, 2004.
Durst...
……will bang a high, short one, pins ’em at the 13 on the fair catch. Will hurt his average, but good field position play.
a zone read for...
……7, then Auburn smokes the reverse for a loss. 3rd and 5. Jenkins will fire too hard, too long, and incomplete! 4th down.
Glasgow...
……gets a horrible bounce, back towards La Tech, only 33 yards. Auburn’s football near midfield.
Bama is getting all they want...
…..in the Georgia Dome. Bud Foster’s D isn’t all that solid against the pass, but they are trying to kill the guys in the Bama backfield. A really stupid forearm shiver to the back of the head penalty on McClain gives Tech a TD, and the Hokies take the lead, 17-16, with a minute left in the half.
I hope Charles Hollis...
…..is happy with his La Tech 23, Auburn 21 prediction. Way to go, B’ham News!
Pretty much.
……Tulsa wasn’t even particularly sharp, last night, with a freshman QB, but they still rolled over Tulane.
Someone told me...
…..that Florida would never score 70 on Charleston Southern, today. May not, but UF has 62, with over 4 minutes left. I missed on UGA, though. Cox flu was the wild card on that one.
You're welcome.
…..I’m doing it off the radio, too. I think Ziemba got one motion penalty. The others have been pass interference, or face masks. The offense seems to have been crisp.
I wish....
I could see this one! Oh well, they’ll be on a station I can see on Time Warner cable. TW sux!
"An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject"-Thomas Jefferson
I've been griping on the kick returns, but...
…..right now Tech is at 19.9 yards per. That’s better than our last year 21.5.
Oklahoma..
has missed a field goal attempt. They are down 14-13 to BYU late.
"An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject"-Thomas Jefferson
Chokelahoma....
……might be out of the BCS picture in just week one. Sam Bradford got slammed down on his throwing shoulder, is out, and Brigham Young appears to be poised to win.
I had hoped to see this one,
…..too. I had expected to see it on ESPN 360. I’ll have to wait till after the CSS rebroadcast at 5 PM tomorrow, to grade it.
I figured I was covered...
…..with Charter cable, and AT&T internet. But no. I guess I need to either switch to U-verse, or get digital cable.
Auburn appears to be content....
……to pound the clock out. We’ve evidently got TWO hundred yard rushers in this one, as Tate seems to have pounded out about 120, too. We’ll likely not see another snap.
That's what I'm being told...
Upgrade for much more moolah!

Thanks ACID!
enjoyed the feed.

Auburn closes out La Tech,
…..37-13. I’m not TOO far out on my prediction back in my May preview. I called 31-10. Folks ridiculed me, too.
I'll be back late Sunday...
……with some grades. We didn’t do everything right today, but it’s a much better start than last year, especially offensively. War Eagle!
AU...
Ontario MacCaleb?? Yep, I think we’ll keep him! A little rough around the edges, but the boys looked good in the second half. War Damn Eagle!! Now…Go Hoakies (LOL!)
bo jackson?
he beat bo’s record for rushing yards by a rookie in the first game. pretty good start…and over 500 yards offense. well played
Did we see the majority of the offense tonight?
Or will they expand it out a bit more and let it loose a little more each week? The line looked very good on the run blocking, they left a little to be desired on the pass blocking but earn a B+ from me.
I hate to give the running backs a B+ with two 100 yard rushers but putting it on the ground as much as they did makes it tough to give them the A+ the numbers earn. How about an A-?
Todd had a very solid second half, his first half he could never find a rhythm with the receivers and it showed. He gets a B+ too for settling in and taking care of the ball like we need a quarterback to.
Receivers. I have to give them a C+. Their timing and routes were still off and they still didn’t do much. Outside of the 93 yarder in the second half for Zachery, our passing game didn’t do much.
Byrum gets an A+, 3/3 on field goals including a couple long ones and perfect on extra points, can’t do any better.
Nick Fairley is a beast and gets an A+ by himself, he was everywhere when we needed him. The rest of the d line gets an A, they did a good job and Jenkins made them look a little worse than they played.
I can’t in good conscience give the linebackers better than a D and they probably deserve an F. They were no where to be seen on run support, and left the middle open for lots of short passing.
The secondary did a good job. Bates played solid and the Thorpe played good. McFadden had two pass interference calls against him, one was crap and the other he just got there a split second too early. I will give the secondary a B.
All in all, the offense looked solid and consistent the majority of the game. This offense just put up 540 yards or so on a reasonable team and can only get better this year sans injuries. The defense played a good game minus a few stupid penalties and poor linebacker play, but in the same breath you have to give credit to Ross Jenkins for playing a good game and keeping his composure the whole game.
War Eagle.
Overall I'm impressed.
Both sides of the balll rebounded well from big early penalties, which I think you can attribute mostly to jitters and playing under the big lights for the first time for a lot of our guys. I think they were under more pressure than one would believe initially. But man, they settled down great.
Wes Byrum had two HUGE confident boosters for him (late in the 1st half and another later on in the 2nd).
Chris Todd threw the ball extremely well and inserted my foot into my mouth firmly regarding his playing ability. Even a lot of incomplete passes were right there for our recivers.
Our running backs looked very good; our o-line provided good protection considering it was our first game.
Though he ran for our first TD, I did not like the Burns package we used last night. Since he’s officially not a QB anymore I feel like he needs to fall in line with the rest of our rb’s and recievers. I see that “wildcat” formation getting very tired and worn after a couple of games unless Malzahn’s got some serious wrinkles in that scheme ahead for the rest of the season.
Overall, I was impressed. A big gripe under the Tubbs regime was second half adjustments, and last night we had the best second half to a football game that I can remember. We had over 500 yards of offense for the first time since 2005 ( I think, if I heard correctly on the post game radio report).
So, in closing I feel good about our chances against some other teams that maybe a few weeks ago I didn’t. It’s still early and I’m not going to going to get my hopes up too high but I give Chizik an A+ in his debut. His coaching staff made adjustments and really shutdown a LA Tech offense that seemed to be finding its groove towards the end of the 1st half. I hope everyone had a pleasurable experience this weekend whether you wee at the game or in your livingroom. Let’s hope we can make some noise this year and sneak up on some people!!!
WAR DAMN EAGLE!
War Eagle
agree with you about the wildcat and Kodi
In fact, they did abandon it after two tries in the red zone and went back to the more effective Todd, Tate, Fanin power package to move the ball.
Kodi should not pass the ball. Against stronger defenses, we will get intercepted.
I wouldn’t abandon the wildcat, but would be more creative in its plays. Kodi should be prepared to pitch the ball, like in an option, with a trailing RB. He tended to keep it.
We have a strong group of running backs, and there is a place for the wildcat, but we must be a little more creative in what we do with it.
Todd showed real command on the field. And our kicking was great.
