Big time commitment today.

A day after Auburn showed off its new offense under the new regime and almost doubling Gene Chizik's winning percentage for the past two years, we get a big time commit.  Welcome to the family LaDarius Owens.

Taken from Rivals.com:

"I committed to Auburn," said Owens. "It feels good. I'm coming home.

"I just love being down there. I'm comfortable. I feel like I'm at home. Auburn is the place for me. I just couldn't look the other way on that. I love it there. I feel like I can help Auburn, help turn around the program."

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Owens, nephew of former Tiger James Owens, picked Auburn over offers from Alabama, Florida State, Tennessee, Clemson, LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, among several others.

"I'm just so glad to get it over with," said Owens. "I've been really blessed. I really appreciate all of the schools that recruited me. I'm really thankful for them, their interest and their offers, but I feel like Auburn is the best place for me."

I am proud that he is a great player that is committed to Auburn and I am even more proud that his speech was great.  Seems like a good kid and will be a great Tiger for us.

Question...What position? Sorry don't keep up with the recruiting scene

do know a little story about this guy …I hear James Owens has a family hat that has signitures from all of Auburn’s greats, like people that are even dead now…LaDarius wanted the hat and James told him that there was only one way he was going to get it…he’d have to go to Auburn cause he would’nt be worthy of it if he didnt…

Linebacker.

Number 7 linebacker according to rivals and the number 3 player in Alabama. He is an outside linebacker with really good speed (like a 4.5 or so) can move sideline to sideline and hits hard. He will be a good one.

His uncle was also the first black player to play for AU

James Owens. There is a video on youtube from 1971 of him playing for us against Tennessee.

What about the guy from Texas?

I don’t remember his name, but is he still a prospect? The guy that said Saban is SOL this time. Seastrunk or something like that. I can’t remember his name exactly.

Nevermind...

Lache Seastrunk. He looks really good. Damn. If get any of those three tailbacks we’re recruiting we’ll be all right. They are all special, but I really like Seastrunk personally.

As much as I would like to see Seastrunk at Auburn

I see him ending up at Baylor where he can be the man for 3 or 4 years and be the biggest man on campus. I think he would be great in the system we are putting in place, but I am not sure he really wants the competition that we have in there now. He would be behind McCaleb and Fannin in the system. I might have him and Dyer backwards on how they are being recruited, but I am reasonably sure that is right.

Dyer seems to really like us and he would be an immediate player in the offense next year, he would replace Tate is my understanding of how they are recruiting him. And man, this kid is a good back too. I can see us getting Dyer. This is especially true if Eric Smith doesn’t return to the team.

We have a great group of quick linebackers committed as long as they sign and enroll, they add great depth and great talent to the corp. The position that worries me the most is the offensive line, I think we need to sign and enroll 4 or 5 lineman and good ones at that. We might lose Ziemba this year if he gets the nod of being a top 2 or 3 round pick, which he is talented enough for and we need players in place to replace him. At best, we need quality depth on the line.

I agree,

We do need more offensive linemen. We seem to be doing well in that department though. After, if you come to Auburn and you’re a lineman you’re going to get put in really quickly.

As far as Seastrunk goes, I really hope we get him. Dyer is great too, I love what I saw about him so far. Still, I think Seastrunk has a real chance to come out here and I would love to see him. I’m keeping my hopes up.

Don't know where he's going...

But, it sounds like something in his voice changes when he talks about Auburn. It is the only school he actually said he could himself playing for. Though, he was high on all programs I must also mention that. It just seems like he’s the right fit here. I think he would love it and the Auburn Family would love him back.
