Scouting Mississippi State...

I thought you might like to see the highlight reel put together by Miss State Athletics for their win over Jackson State. This should give you some idea of what Auburn is up against this Saturday.  With two new spread offenses, my guess is the game will produce more than five points. Hat tip to my friends at For Whom The Cowbell Tolls.

Certainly something to rally behind for the Mississippi State faithful, but I’m confident that our defense can slow down their new offense and I like our offenses chances against their defense. I’m not saying it won’t be tough, but I think AU takes this one.

It was a good performance.

Putting up 40 points is putting up 40 points. But they were playing Jackson State. I think it will be a tough matchup for us, but ultimately I think we’ll have too many answers.

I’m not overly confident about this game. We haven’t beaten mississippi state soundly since 2006. But I am cautiously optimistic after seeing what we saw this past Saturday night. I’m ready to see some more. Here’s to hoping for an AUBURN VICTORY over msu. WAR EAGLE!!!

"We're at AUBURN. I think that says it all. We're going after the best in the country -- no matter when, what, where, how. That's how we're going to do it. We're going to work really hard to try to get that done every year -- including this one." -- Auburn University Head Football Coach Gene Chizik

The last two times we've played Miss State

Lost 19-14
Won 3-2

Those teams were “Mississippi State after all” as well. I think we’ll beat them by 10-15 points, but it will be a step up in competition from La. Tech. Of course, we’ll be a step up in competition from Jackson State, too. We’ll know alot more about both of these teams in six days.

With a long-suffering program....

…..you have to be excited with any big blow-out win. But folks, this is basically equivalent of Auburn beating the heck out of Miles College. It’s not really a great indicator of how MSU will do against SEC competition. Biggest improvement I saw in that video, was that State guys were actually looking for the ball. I can’t tell you how many Bulldog passes in the past few years, hit Bulldog players in the head, and were incomplete. Looks like the Maroon nation was suitably fired up by the coaching change, though.

……Should be another interesting weekend on the Plains. Most teams show their best improvement from week one to week two. If that happens for Auburn, I think we’ll be thrilled!

who is that

number 25 on MSU’s team? I bet Our offense will know by gametime.

Yeah...

this video didn’t show me anything. Jackson State is slower than molasses out there. Not to mention Chris Relf, Miss. State’s QB, basically took the snap and then took a 10-minute nap before throwing the ball. There wasn’t anybody near him all day and folks, Miss. State’s offensive line isn’t great by any stretch of the imagination. It’s really hard to gauge Miss. St. after watching them scrimmage against a horrible team in Jackson St.

My prediction for the game on Saturday? Given that the score should’ve been worse than it was against La. Tech (penalties and turnovers hurt us), we beat Miss. St. by at least 24. I do think that Mullen will get Miss. St. back to respectability, but they don’t have near the kind of players that you need to run that system yet. Our defense will dominate them, and Malzahn will open up the playbook a little bit more. 35-10 the good guys.

Close

I really think this game will be close and a battle until the end. With that said, I think Auburn wins in a really close one.

Oh Sparkey.....

let me help you out. AU 27 MSU 13 but its not as close as it appears with AU having the game in hand and MSU putting up at least 6 of those 13 late in the game to make it appear closer than it really is. AU is heavily substituting by the early 4th Quarter to get the backups needed experience. Look for AU to show no more than they have to again in this matchup.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Also....

I think you need to change your name to Eeyore.

Name change not gonna happen

I got the name because I start trouble, or at least I used to anyway. I’m not being pessemistic on this one. Miss State is on their way up. I think Dan Mullen is a really good coach and that will come out Saturday. Even so, he doesn’t have the athletes that Auburn does. Plus, we’ve got the best assistants around, and I’ve been saying that SINCE THEY WERE HIRED

Mississippi State will get worse before they get better.....

if for no other reason than the lack of a QB and mobile lineman. And I’m kidding about the name change. :-)

You know...

I was tempted to make another account called Eeyore and talk about Auburn winning the next five championships. Haha, I thought you might have appreciated that. I think we are better as well, and believe me I’d love to beat Miss State like a drum.

I'm gonna say 31-20

My preseason score prediction for this one was 20-10, but after having watched Auburn and heard about Mississippi State’s game, I think it will be a little higher scoring for both. I still think we’ll win by 10 or so; our offense impressed me more than I expected, and our defense disappointed me a little bit. Should be a comfortable win.
