Game One Thoughts On Chris Todd
I watched some replays of the LA Tech game yesterday. You know what stood out to me the most? Chris Todd. While Mario Fannin was spectacular as a Ronnie Brown type fullback and Onterio McCalebb was nothing short of awesome, Todd just seemed unflappable to me. He seemed to have a grasp on what Gus wanted and for the most part Todd got all the players lined up where they needed to be. He also threw what I like to call "Big Boy Throws." "Big Boy Throws" are not necessarily bullet passes. They are perfectly timed, or perfectly placed, or they I guess they can also be bullet passes in a great location. Chris Todd threw a few "Big Boy Passes" against LA Tech. One of those throws was the 93 yard TD, but a couple more of those throws were actually incompletions (one to DeAngelo Benton, and the other to Emory Blake). Todd sort of reminds me of the way Jason Campbell was in 2004. He never seemed to get rattled and seemed to know exactly where he wanted to go with the football. I am not saying that we are going to go 13-0 and win the SEC but Chris Todd has shown some major maturity.
Campbell and Todd have some other things in common as well. Both were booed by the
Remember in 2004, we had good offensive day to start the season against LA Monroe and followed it up with another great showing against
How can I draw conclusions by only playing one game? Am I just being a Homer? Maybe I am drinking the Kool-Aid. No, I am drinking the Kool-Aid. Gus Malzahn and Gene Chizik made it for me and I am taking a big ole swig. I think barring injury we are going to be just fine. I will stand by my predictions from last week.
Small Rant… What happened to all the folks who called the various radio shows saying that LA Tech as a "very good team" and that they would beat

You will never see the Turd Fans.......
admit that they were wrong about AU (with very few exceptions). I have said for weeks now, and I’m not changing it now, that we could compete for the west if we stay healthy. I see no reason why we can’t at this point other than injuries in thin positions….and the longer we go without injury the better our depth becomes. Linebacker is already beginning to look more solid after only one game. And if we can get the MSU game in mop up mode early look for substitutions on OL to pay dividends as well.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
For the record...
I predicted Auburn to have the same record as Jay.
I just thought that with the new offense and the many injuries in preseason that I wouldn’t be surprised if Auburn laid a turd in their first game, and then came on strong at the end of the year. Thankfully AU wasn’t the trainwreck that some thought they’d be.
It seems UGA and LSU were the teams with bowel problems in week one.
UGA was a huge dissappointment.....
LSU played very flat and it took them alot longer to get moving that it should but a win is a win. The only thing I will give UGA some slack on is that Small Cox (heheheh) was suffering from the flu….so they could be alot better than what we saw (I know I have my doubts too). And back in the day I laid a few turds but I didn’t call Bammer Co-eds that to their face (ba dump bump cha).

I think both LSU and UGA will improve.
Chavis is a proven DC, and LSU has talent. It can’t not work, right?
On offense, I think we kept it close to the vest on purpose. I mean we’ve seen creativity from Crowton ever since he’s been in Baton Rouge, so it’s not like he forgot how to call plays. I ranted all last year about how it seemed the coaches were setting Lee up to fail, giving him too much to handle. Maybe the coaches thought the same thing, and are just letting Jefferson do what he can do without making mistakes. If it takes us a little while to get up to full speed, so be it.
I think we’ll be fine, but this weekend didn’t exactly answer a lot of questions.
I'll probably get blasted on this one...
I really do not think Les Miles is a good coach. Maybe I’m wrong, but he just doesn’t seem to really be doing a great job in my view. Before I say anything else, yes I am aware that he won a national championship. And, he did do a great job in playing his team up by saying they actually never lost in regulation. With that said, it seems to me that the Purple Tigers are not improving. I realize I might just be crazy, but that’s the way I see it.
Actually Sparkey I got your back on this one.....
I think Lester “The Hat” Miles is luckier than a two dicked dog. And that NC he has is proof…..I mean how many teams had to lose for him to make it to the game? If ever there was a team that backed into a NC it was that one. The positive thing I will say about him is he has maintained LSU’s recruiting to a point that they should be contenders year in and year out and that I don’t fault last seasons lackluster performance on Miles but rather on Periloux. But “Less” Miles will always lose at least one that he shouldn’t……..I don’t think he will ever put together an undefeated season.

I agree he isnt a good coach... He has just gotten lucky
This will be a good year to see what he does.
ALABAMA leading the NCAA with infractions since 1994
Honestly
I give the guy another two years tops. I think he should’ve gone to Michigan while the money was good.
Meeechigan.....
will be ten times better off with Rich Rod if they will be patient and allow him time to have his recruits play for him as Juniors and Seniors. And I don’t think Meeeeechigan would have paid “The Hat” as much denaro as the corndogs have. But I agree that within the next 2 or 3 years they will get tired of losing one or two games that they shouldn’t and will look elsewhere.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
Believe me
I’m not saying that Michigan would have been better off with Miles. And you do have a point, the Wolverines are known for not paying much money to their coaches. Having said that, I think Rodriguez will have that program turned around in the right direction in one more year.
Here’s some numbers for Acid Reign. Todd is ranked third in the SEC.

Jefferson leads
for QB’s that faced BCS defenses, albeit Washington, albeit in Washington’s stadium. Looks like we’re not gunna get a hand out from an LSU QB this year. lol.

On the side of caution....
……A 93 yard pass in a game will skew those rankings pretty heavily! Todd’s net yards per pass drops from a stellar 9.8, to a decent 6.48. That 93 yarder cracked me up, on the replay. You could hear (I guess) Brock Huard, a former quarterback, say “uh-oh.” when Todd pump-faked. A linebacker, a corner AND the safety all bit on the out fake, letting Zachary go by! I’ll say it again, I haven’t seen an Auburn receiver THAT wide open deep, in a long, long time!
Todd did play his career game up to this point in his stay at AU.
It appears that some very exciting weapons could be made available to Todd on offense this year as well. We know Tate will be solid, Mcalebb is showing some huge improvement, Eric Smith was supposed to be talented as well. He’s got Fannin, Billings, and few freshman providing a spark in the receiving deptartment. Burns is running his ‘wildcat’ formation which will provide a changeup from the normal Todd attack (if it develops effectiveness). If all these factors begin to mesh this year we could be putting some serious numbers on the scoreboard.

Michigan
will be turning heads soon. The Big Ten just won’t be able to keep up. Most of these teams are too stubborn to change and Michigan’s new found speed will run right past them. They will scare people this year…if not beat most. Next year they will be deadly. I will be in Ann Arbor next month to see them….maybe by then we will see how good they are.
I've seen good TEAMS beat teams with great individuals.
Chris Todd has a lot to prove before I drink the kool aid
I watched the same game film twice and I saw a QB that locked in on one receiver, a QB that displayed poor mechanics (throwing off his back foot), and an arm that is still in question.
With that said, I am happy and releived from Auburn’s performance. It was a great start to the year. They have to get better to compete in the west, and that starts with Chris Todd. His arm is his arm, but it is imperative that he goes through his progression when his primary receiver is not open and he stops throwing off his back foot!!!
Question for IndyTiger
Will Michigan beat Notre Dame? Inquiring pick ’em players need to know, ASAP!
