If there was any doubt ...

If there was any doubt about Ben Tate's frame of mind, this post-game quote confirms it ... #44 appears to have lost it.  One would have thought that he would have been apologizing to his team-mates instead of trying to speak for them.

"This is going to be a memorable game.  I don't think I'll ever forget it. We wanted to have fun and we wanted to win, and we accomplished both." - Ben Tate

Ben Tate

kicks ass and he can say whatever he wants. Good luck to him in the NFL. I’m not sure why your trying to make a big deal out of this xotus, seems like pretty much typical postgame comments from a player off of a winning team. We did win, right?

Huh?

Every tiger touchdown this year has been handed back to the referee without fanfare or nary a tone of celebratory nature. On what should have been the final and game clinching touchdown I do not begrudge Ben Tate celebrating his last touchdown in a GREAT Auburn career. For the announcers to make a big deal about that STUPID penalty, and I believe THEY ARE ALL STUPID, unless they are actually taunting the opposition, shows how much they know about Auburn and Ben Tate. They know nothing and showed as much. Ben Tate is ALLLLL class and the fact that we couldn’t hold a two touchdown lead with less than six minutes left was Ted Roofs fault not Ben Tate’s. Our problem was fumbling twice in the last two minutes, not a 15 yard penalty.
Ben Tate is a warrior and arguably our best player, he deserved to high step every time he had the ball today, for what he has done for Auburn this year. I am glad he celebrated, he of all people deserved it.
I hope the Falcons find a way to draft him next year, he will be a star in the NFL…count on it.

On what day did the Lord create Bear Bryant and couldn't he have rested on that day too?

Well, it's like this ...

Well, it’s like this… just when it looked as if AU might have taken control of the game, with 7-1/2 minutes to go, suddenly it appeared to some of the people posting on this blog (at the time that it happened) that Ben Tate had another one of his “Hey, look at me moments.” You know like when he announced, “Nobody pays any attention but I’m the fastest runner on this team.” Or like when he proclaimed, “Nobody pays any attention but I’m the best running back in the SEC.”

It should make no difference to Ben Tate what people who post on blogs think about what he does on the field that could very well cost his team a victory … but, what his head coach thinks about what Ben Tate does on the field that could very well cost his team a victory … well, now that should be a different matter to Ben Tate.

There’s no doubt that Coach Chizik thought that Ben Tate’s “celebration” could very well put AU’s apparent control of the game in jeopardy because I believe I saw Coach Chizik dress-down Ben Tate, for all the world to see, as soon as Ben Tate got back to the bench.

What happened the next couple possessions doesn’t prove that Coach Chizik has some magical powers that allow him to see into the future … but, it sure did “set Ben Tate up to be the goat” as Acid Reign observed on this blog at the time.

Most would probably say that Acid was stating the obvious … but, what is obvious to the many is sometimes not so obvious to the few.

After seeing Ben Tate’s post-game comment I’m not sure he got it at all — even when the message was delivered by his head coach. That’s all.

I agree that the celebration was stupid and shouldn't have taken place.....

and that it gave NW a leg up on coming back. But at the same time it has been addressed by Chizik as we all saw and that is the end of it. Berating Tate who has been underappreciated by the press and awards is of little use. The kid gave his all on the field the entire time he has been at AU and has always represented our Alma Matre well…..I don’t think one incident in his final game is showing anything to the contrary.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

Nobody said "the incident is showing" any more than it showed ...

It was what it was.

Ben Tate’s actions and words speak for themselves.

Let the kids have some fun

It was an emotional game. When you’re pumped up like that you can’t help it sometimes. Like McFadden did after the INT Return. It was his last game as an Auburn Tiger ever. I think that was probably his first Excessive celebration penalty ever. He’s earned it.

Love Jesus and then Football.

Just for the record

Mark Ingram would have been rejected by the crossbar

You know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in France?

Mark Ingram can fly

I’ve seen him do it

no wings either he just wills himself off the ground

also Julio can breathe under water and Bear Bryant will come into your house at night and leave a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes under your pillow and a bottle of Jack on your kitchen table – both empty

… but, he drank anything! (Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course) :-)

I hope we find out about 10 times come Thursday.

My comments are of my own and do not represent any other bama fans or blog or website or blackberry whatever else can be connected to the stupid internet.

So if you don't like what I say grow a set or ban me and ANYONE else can ban me to if they want. I don't care about your nancy feelings anymore than you care about mine.

Deal with it. (I have for the past decade)

Why

in the hell do they call celebration penalties in bowl games anyway?

I mean unless it is the NC game then who really cares. I want my team to win the game, but it is more for the kids to go have some fun. I was pissed when Tate and McFadden both celebrated but when i actually thought about it, who cares let em have some fun.

Celebration penalties are idiotic!!

As I said before, unless they are deliberately taunting the opponent, I REALLY don’t see a problem with them. Its so rediculous to penalize a kid, who worked so hard to get to this point in the season…a new years day bowl game…for celebrating an exciting moment in his life….HIS LIFE…NOT JUST A GAME. Do you think Walt Mc Fadden will EVER forget returning an interception for a record 102 yard touchdown in his last college game? C’mon people, its a BOWL game…a meaningless…UTTERLY meaningless bowl game. Bowls are supposed to be rewards for the kids who work hard all year and who…if you remember…don’t get paid anything to dedicate themselves to practice and training AND school work. These kids deserve to have fun and yet they are punished for not being empathetic to the sorry losers who let them beat them in the first place. I like it when kids just hand the ball back to the official and act like its no big deal., but some times it is a big deal….and Ben Tate is a big deal. I would have rather seen us lose the game than for Ben to hand the ball to the official if he really wanted to celebrate. I’m glad he did, because he did deserve more attention. He is an exceptional talent and fortunately for some lucky NFL team he is going to bring that chip on his shoulder to their town, eager to show why he should be mentioned alongside other Auburn greats like Joe, Bo, Brent, Rudi, Ronnie and Cadillac.
