Fox Sports: Newton Left Florida After Cheating Scandal
Things have gone from bad to worse for Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. Fox Sports is reporting this morning that the former Florida quarterback left Gainesville after being involved in a cheating scandal.
According to the report, "Newton had three different instances of academic cheating while attending the University of Florida and faced potential expulsion from the university, according to a source."
While the allegations are not an NCAA violation, they certainly hurt Newton's credibility as he continues to fight charges made by former Miss State quarterback John Bond.

I disagree...
True, I am a skeptical person and generally do not take things at face value, but a conspiracy theorist…I am not. In this particular matter, I think that the only thing this “proves” is that there is some sort of “conspiracy” between Meyer (UFL) and Mullen (MSST) to run this kid and his reputation in the ground. It makes me sick. I hope Cam and the rest of the AU Tigers take this bull and run with it. I hope they play with more heart and determination than they have ever played with in their lives. I pray that we get the opportunity to play Meyer in the SEC Championship…and pray that when we walk away MEYER is the one wiping tears from his eyes.
And for once in my life I will truly cheer on Bama as they play Miss St. My only regret is that we can’t play Miss St. again this season.
I believe in our school, our team, and our QB. War D@mn Eagle!!!

Shame on Him
And in 2nd grade, he called Suzy a boogerbrain. Cmon, this was over a year ago when this all happened.
I’m more concerned about his credibility NOW. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

I want to know
how you even go about putting your name on someone elses paper after they have already turned it in… that just seems like it’d have to be stolen from the professor and renamed, etc. mission impossible style. I know how my professors are with papers and that’s pretty much impossible

Cam has made stupid decisions
- haven’t we all. I sure am glad Thayer Evans isn’t checking into my background, especially when I was college aged. He takes an awful lot of shots at Auburn in that article. It reads more like a tabloid piece. I just hope nothing comes out in all this “professional investigating” that forces Auburn to vacate wins. THAT would be a crime against all the kids on the team. War Eagle!
Better Yet --
What do Cam’s official transcripts state? And how, without his knowledge and consent, does this information become a part of a story? My daughter, 22-years-old and completely dependent upon me at this point in her life, can (by law) refuse to show me any grades should she so choose and I certainly cannot obtain a copy from the University.
Just more BS and, as far as I’m concerned, a blatant attempt at character assassination.
Anyone that has proof of this should reveal not just the proof but the manner in which said proof was obtained.
DWWD -- WDE!
Someone please clarify this for me:
The release of this information is both unethical in the field of respected journalism and illegal right? I mean you can’t release a student’s information like this can you?
War Eagle
You absolutely can not.
I am a junior faculty member and just went through this training. You absolutely can not release this information. The student must sign a consent form and specifically name who can have access. It shouldn’t be just the NYT dude in the host seat, it should whomever in the UF admissions office that leaked this information.
It is truly despicable behavior.

It took a lot of attention away from Urban's crappy year though, didn't it?
Just sayin’
"So I want everybody to think here for a second, how much does this game mean to you? 'Cause if it means something to you, you can't stand still. You understand? You play fast! You play strong! You go out there and dominate the man you're playing against, and you make his ass quit! That's our trademark! That's our M.O.... as a team! That's what people know us as!" - Coach Nick Saban before the 2008 LSU game.

Florida, Meyer and Mullen are playing with Plutonium....
Dan….Urban…..do you REALLY want to go down this road? Do you really want to start opening up the pandora’s box of cheating by athletes on their papers? I know there were more than a few times as a freshman I would have KILLED to “buy” a paper off the internet…..however Al Gore hadn’t invented it yet. I knew football players that were getting “tutored”. My best friend went to Georgia Tech and “tutored” Kenny Anderson and the rest of the basketball team, through Economics and Statistics. Urban, are you that shallow….are you that small…that you have to attack Cam Newton when you know DAMN well, that most of the kids there on a sports scholarship need “help”. I do not condone the cheating….it is wrong…and Cam had to leave Florida. He paid a price That happens to probably about 20-30% or more of incoming freshman. They can’t hang with the work and have to leave because of poor grades.
Why not get his driving record out there while you’re at it? .I understand he has some speeding tickets and got a suspended license….CAN YOU BELEIVE IT!! I just hope Urband and Dan get whats coming to them because they deplorable, lowlifes.
Col.Angus may be rough, Col.Angus may not smell like a bed of roses, but deep down Col.Angus is very sweet. If I overstay my welcome, just tap me on the head!!
Two more questions and an answer
1. Who is the source? (After reading the article it sounds to me like the other student involoved int he alleged paper swap decided to contact Thayer Evans after last week’s character assassination.)
2. Where’s the proof? (Answer – there won’t be any proof because UF will not take the illiegal step of releasing any transcripts without Cam’s permission.)
Yes, reporting a college student’s academic information without said student’s release is extremely unethical. I would love it if someone would go digging around in Thayer Evans’ past and expose all his dirty little secrets. But then again, Evans is a jackass nobody so who would really care?
blood in the water
This is turning into a witch hunt. I guess since Cam didn’t go to Cambodia to save the freaking world, these hacks have to come up with something to write about. Let’s face it, Cam Newton is not an angel. And Americans love scandal above all else. Truly, everyone is captivated about this except the Auburn family. But hopefully very soon, they will run out of trash to talk and just concentrate on his athletic performance. He’s not running for office, he’s playing football.
Your comments make me remember
my time as an athletic tutor at Auburn when Pat Dye was head coach. The rules I had to follow as a TUTOR were extraordinary. The athletes (which I refuse to name) were not paid; as a matter of fact, they complained about not having money on several occasions and we debated whether they should receive any extra. Main point though – even back then guidelines for helping athletes academically were extremely structured. Makes me wonder if the policies at Florida may be a bit lacking……
So he's dense and cheats.
Most college football players are and do. Why should he be any different? This isn’t an Auburn issue. It’s a college football player issue. Have any of you seen OJ’s attempts at writing? One would think he has a diagnosis of MR. Perhaps he does. Yet Southern California legally let him play, and who can blame them?
The solution to this (for all of college football – hardly just for Auburn) is to make football players have the same academic qualifications as all other undergrads (these qualifications are appallingly low at every university in the SEC except for Vanderbilt, and appallingly low at nearly every BCS institution nationally). What is undergrad school, really, other than playschool?
We could still have college football. The only difference is that it would be authentic college football. Or we can continue with this industry (it works for me). But if we do, we can’t hold Cam or other players accountable for not being able to manage academically with honesty.

It’s from Florida Today…
“Florida officials and Newton has said he could have remained at the school if he wanted but chose to leave rather than spend another season behind Tim Tebow. Florida officials have cited student privacy laws and declined to discuss the academic matter.”

No Media Integrity
Here’s what I don’t understand: The “journalists” responsible for sensationalizing the story of Cam cheating at UF are under no apparent heat from their bosses for writing such an irresponsible story. Due to student privacy laws, now no one will be able to prove that Cam did or didn’t do anything wrong. This is where the irresponsibility lies. Journalists should be smart enough and have enough integrity to not write one-sided stories such as this. All this does is fuel Cam naysayers’ plot to keep him from winning the Heisman. Since there is no way to prove Cam’s innocence, the negative articles and mud-slinging wins out. I truly hope that the rest of the country, especially the Heisman voters, can see this for what it is: Character Assassination. I guess if you can’t beat him, you can always try to tear him down. Apparently, these antagonists didn’t catch the AU/UTC game last week. If their plan is to distract him from his goals, they aren’t doing a very good job. WDE and WAR CAM EAGLE!
Thayer Evans of FoxSports.com, and the so called journalist for the NY Times are both known associates of Meyer's...
Media integrity has nothing to do with a mob scene at a lynching.
Could Meyer be setting up Mullen to play in Atlanta? “The thinking would be to create a scenario that would make Auburn ineligible for the SECCG and MSU wins out to get second in the West. Then Meyer could retire, and Mullen take his place at UF”.
