Tell Me Your Favorite...

Plays from this AUsome 2010 season.  Whether it is just one or you have a dozen favorites, I want to know.  A few of mine are as follows and are in no particular order...

AU @ KY - Cam's completed pass to Kodi as he is falling out of bounds.

AU @ Ole Miss - Kodi's completed pass to Cam for a TD.

LSU @ AU - Fairley's "suplex" of Jefferson, and Cam dragging Peterson into the endzone for a TD.

AU @ uat - This one may be frowned upon, but Bell's sack on McElroy in the 4th qtr. made me smile.

Okay...now it is your turn!

Cam pancaking the SC defender in the SECCG

It became a bigger fav after Mark May commented that the SC defender was just a bug on Cams windshield and normally you needed a ticket for a ride like that. It reminded me of Bo taking Brian Bosworth into the endzone.

I'm with CKTCooper

I loved Cam’s pass to Kodi while being pushed out of bounds in the Kentucky game. I know it didn’t go for a touchdown or anything, but that play was just absolutely amazing. Nobody else in the nation could have made that play.

Best play in the 2010 Iron Bowl

Nick Fairley penetrating the line, sacking McElroy, causing a fumble and getting the turnover. Now that was a great play !!

Defensive touchdown in SECCG

It wasn’t all that necessary (Auburn was up 35-14 at the time) but it was fast, furious, and just really, really cool. Plus, I like defensive touchdowns. Plus, well, it was just really, really cool.

Second favorite was Fairley’s McElroy sack/fumble/recovery. Because before the game I really wanted to see Fairley sack McElroy and make him fumble, and he did. And recovered the fumble. It’s like getting exactly what you asked for plus a little bit more. Which is pretty much what this season was.

chasing down ingram and causing fumble in IB. There were alot more spectacular displays of athleticism throughout the year no doubt, but that play put us in the position we are in now more than any other IMO and deserves both mention and praise.

I like the superman into endzone from the fifteen yard line..

and I think against one of the smaller schools when Cam made about ten players on the opposing def miss him to gain one yard, it might have been the dirst game. what determination!

Hated QB got hurt….but it was a clean sack and that’s part of the game.
Great picture of this sack at the Galleria in Birmingham. Lot’s of Auburn fans standing around it smiling last night. What is so amazing is looking at how much smaller Bell is.

I personally liked Lutzie's dance after he scored the go-ahead TD.

Zac’s scoop and score is also my favorate, I was so happy for him after all he went through to get that payoff.

Haters can hate, but Cam will still parcipate!

by TheAuburnKnight on Dec 19, 2010 8:45 AM CST reply actions

All of the plays listed above were good choices.....

…the Cam pass to Kodi is a play that will most likely be an alltime highlight reel type play.

As for Bell’s sack on McElroy i loved it then, I still love it now and it will always leave me smiling. A clean play made the way the game was intended to be played. All out and “All In”.

On another note a play that I will stick with me for 2010 but was neither a great play nor a key play but rather a feel good play was The Mario Fannin TD run in the SECCG. It was a great result for a good Auburn man.

Team for 8 vs. LSU

My favorite…and I think a metaphor for the season….was the short run by Dyer early in the 2nd Qtr I think. Dyer runs into the line for a short two yard gain but he keeps his legs churning and the ENTIRE offense, including Cam get behind him and methodically push him forward against the GREAT LSU defense for a gain of 8 yards. The crowd erupted as our boys showed drive, determination and imposed themselves on the so-called best defense in the SEC….which I guess they were since they held us to the fewest points all season.
I don’t count MSU, because we hadn’t decided to use Cam yet and we still had Fannin as the feature back.

That play told me this team was determined not to lose and they were a TEAM, a team of destiny with a great but selfless player….not a one man show.

Col.Angus may be rough, Col.Angus may not smell like a bed of roses, but deep down Col.Angus is very sweet. If I overstay my welcome, just tap me on the head!!

Without a doubt

…Antoine Carter punching the ball out from Ingram’s possession, causing the fumble, touchback, Auburn’s ball. That started the comeback right there. Without that, we lose. I hope we get some more GREAT plays against oregon. WAR EAGLE!!!

Anyone seen this yet?

And here I thought we had the market cornered on T-Pain music. For those of you that don’t know, the original song is what the players run down the field to between 3rd and 4th quarter called “All the Above” by T-Pain. I got my ticket yesterday. I said before the SECCG that we would take over the dome. We did, and now we are going to take over another dome! I guess this is their response to all the AU rap songs that were hitting the ’net…

The entire Arkansas game...

To me, that entire game was a turning point. From the lucky call on the Fannin fumbled TD, to the blocked punt setting up another score, to the returned fumble by Etheridge, to Bynes’ interceptions. It was after that game that I began to truly believe that this team would not get beat.

4th and 3

Going for it and laying it on the line …. Many thought we might pooch punt it and instead….we were playing to win. Gutsy call and a BIG difference maker in the game.

by AUPops on Dec 20, 2010 7:56 AM CST reply actions

Really tough call...

The finalists:

-Arky State – The 71 TD run by Cam. It was actually a busted play I think. He wanted Fannin on a bootleg, but the entire defense ran that way. Cam looked back the other way and it was nothing but Onterrio and a ton of green grass. Still, watching an Auburn QB run that long without anybody getting close made me realize we might have something.

-MSU – Fairley’s INT. This was the apex of him taking over this game. I think he had a sack or two before that in the 2nd quarter. It also set up what would be the winning TD.

-South Carolina (part 1) – The revelation of the inverted veer. Juking the LBs, outrunning everybody else. We had seen the flashes from Cam before, but this was when we knew.

-UK – The rollout jump pass to Kodi. I didn’t know who caught it until after the game b/c I was in the upper deck in commonwealth. I just started laughing and apologized to my UK buddy

-Arkansas – Dyer’s run. Had to be sweet for him to do that to all the Arkansas fans that hated him for leaving. Also put us over 60 against an SEC opponent, which I’d never seen before

-LSU – The Run. The inverted veer strikes again (2 of the 3 TDs in this game were off this play). I’ll go ahead and say this was one of the greatest runs in Auburn history

-Mississippi – Not really one play in particular, but the way Dyer took over the 2nd half. It was nice to finally sit back, have a cold brew, and finish out an easy one against an SEC opponent

-UGA – the F-You TD. We didn’t have to score again, but after dealing with those flea-bitten tools for 4 years, that one was fun

-Bama – The TD pass to Blake. Hot Carter’s forced fumble was huge, but we still didn’t score off of it. This TD before half on a great call and perfect execution got us on the board. Fairley’s sack-fumble kept it going, and the big TD to T-Zach let everybody know it wasn’t over.

-SECCG – The pick-six. Even at 35-14 I didn’t think it was close to over. I’ve seen Auburn blow that kind of lead way too many times in my 26 years. Two things can happen when you blitz on a screen, and both of them are big plays. It just depends on what the QB can do. Stevens had The Brah running for his life, and T Bell made em pay. This is when I knew. It helps that this one was run back right at my seats (4th row of the upper deck)

After all that, I think I gotta go with The Run against LSU. Bo had Bye Bye Bo against GT. James Brooks had the winding run against UGA in 79. Bostic had the 70 yarder against bama. Ronnie had the dive over the goal line against Penn State to give us the lead for good. Caddy had the first play of the 03 Iron Bowl. Kenny Irons had the bust out of the pile run against LSU. Brad Lester had the carry-the-pile-for-15-yards run to clinch the iron bowl in 2007. Tate had the last TD of the onslaught against Mississippi. That one is Cam’s Run. It’s the one I’ll always go back to, and the first one I’ll show my kids when I tell them about Cam Newton.

by AU_Jonesy on Dec 20, 2010 8:13 AM CST reply actions

the UK pass that everyone is talking about... was that the one at the front end of the game winning FG drive in the 4th?

GREAT STUFF!...

great hype heading toward the LSU game with both undefeated.

what a run Cam had against LSU…and he finished with 217 on the ground that day.
there have been moments when Auburn has brought just as complex a package of run game options to the table and overwhelmed opponents with active Olineman and effective downfield blocking… this was no doubt a game that featured it all… gaining 440 yards on the ground against the highest ranked SEC D at the time.

that 24-17 win over LSU… even though we left 7 on the field by taking knees inside the 10 at the end of the game… was a sincere butt whoopin. I do think that the Arkansas game the week previous gave us the confidence to do what we did that day. having both those games in JHS was key to letting the MO carry over through that stretch.

what a season for picking the 'best' plays...

there were an absolute TON…in no particular order…

1. i have to say… the Etheridge tackle against Andre Ellington in OT was one of the biggest plays of the year. Ellington ran to the left, opposite the blocking, and Etheridge was the only guy to beat. Etheridge just barely tripped him up and held Clemson to a FG try that they missed.

Ellington should have been able to get outside and score the game winning TD… but Etheridge saved the day.

2. The other ‘save the day’ type plays for me were a couple of catches by Burns in the Iron Bowl. If I am not mistaken, both were on 3rd and long, and kept the drive going spurring the greatest comeback I have ever seen.

3. one of my favorite throws of the year was the TD BULLET to Lutzenkirchen down the center of the field flying through what seemed like 3-4 players
http://s1081.photobucket.com/albums/j344/AU-FIF/Videos/CN/Top%20Ten%20Plays/?action=view&current=18yardTDtoLutzenkirchen.mp4

it just seemed like newton got more and more confident with his throws, and the WRs got more used to the velocity as the season went along… there were several passes late in the season that were a show of arm strength i can’t remember seeing since jay cutler at vandy.

4. Jordan-Hare Stadium… we needed our homefield to show up BIG for us this year… and EARLY in the season. jordan-hare seemed to get ratchetted up a notch this year… largely feeding off the play of Cam Newton, and his mini pep rallies he would lead down the field between the 3rd and 4th quarters. THAT was real Auburn FIRE, … and so much fun to watch.

5. Auburn causing key turnovers… showing a never quit attitude on a play…or the scope of the game. For me, this is when it was clear that both sides of the ball were 1. the “All In”, and “Lean on me” messages were resonating. Auburn had a real football team.
Examples: Fairley int & fumble recovery against Miss St, Bynes’ ints against SC, Etheridge’s fumble recovery for TD vs. Arky, Fairley fumble recovery at bama, Carter forced fumble at bama, Bell’s pick 6 in SECCG,
the timing of the AU D stepping up and causing these TOs was crucial…and clearly had something to do with added depth on D.

6. the running of QB Cam Newton:20 TDs, 1409 yards in the SEC. i recall many bama fans saying preseason that AU shouldn’t rely on a QB in the run game… just a bit off weren’t they? incredible. absolutely critical on 3rd downs & short yardage this year. Kept the sticks moving and final scoring drives secure throughout the year. I have speculated all year that Newton’s running settles him down… gets him in the game… and has allowed his passing skills to gain momentum and confidence throughout the year. how much of the passing game has benefitted from the Newton run threat… ALL of it, in my opinion. throughout the year…i’ve never seen so many wide open AU WRs in my life. Cam seemed to step it up against some of the strongest Ds Auburn faced… 171_Ark St, 176_SC, 198_UK, 188_Arky, 217_LSU, 151_UGA for a total of 6 games at 150 or more yards.

7. Absolute Staggering Offensive production. 566 total yards against Arkansas. 440 yards on the ground vs LSU, 589 total yards in the SECCG, 623 vs. Chatanooga…
555 points in 13 games for an average of 42.6 ppg….
40.2 ppg average in the toughest conference in America.

…and it took the whole team.
WAR EAGLE!

definitely the Arkansas game. Few AU fans I know share that opinion with me, but I really thought our offense was gonna break the scoreboard at Jordan Hare. Josh Bynes’s second interception was my favorite back-breaking play of the year.

It is a shame that he hasn’t received more credit than whats been given. He is a true leader on the defense side of the ball.

Tigers that do not get enough press for their efforts. Darvin Adams, Emory Blake, Josh Bynes, Zac Clayton, Mike Berry, Kodi Burns. and the list goes on..
They played as a complete team this year, and I have never seen a better example of teamwork equaling success in my life.
