National Signing Day Special...

The day has finally arrived. National Signing Day is here. The faxes have already started coming in to the Auburn Athletic Department. Will there be any surprises today? You can almost bet on it. After all, we're talking about 18 year-old kids who are under unimaginable pressure.

Here are a few storylines to watch out for as we move through the day...

Where will four-star defense end Corey Lemonier land? He's narrowed his choices to Auburn and Florida State. Recruiting experts still give Auburn the edge, but at this point, who really knows?

Will five-star Mississippi offensive lineman Shon Coleman stay with Auburn or will he really defect to Alabama?

Will Junction City, Arkansas defensive tackle Byran Jones go with Auburn or Arkansas? Most believe he'll end up a Razorback.

Stay right here throughout the morning for updates and please share your thoughts on how the day is progressing. War Eagle!

UPDATE (8:10 a.m.) Below is a list of commitments already received...

Cody Parkey, K, 6-2, 195, Jupiter (Fla.)

Antonio Goodwin, WR, 6-2, 170, Atlanta/Booker T. Washington

Steven Clark, P, 6-5, 230, Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill

Jeremy Richardson, WR, 6-4, 220, Springville

Kenneth Carter, 6-5, 267, Greenville

Eric Mack, OL, 6-4, 315, St. Matthews, S.C./Calhoun County

Jonathon Mincy, DB, 5-10, 175, Decatur, Ga./Southwest Dekalb

Ed Christian, OL, 6-5, 280, Valdosta, Ga./Lowndes

Ladarius Phillips, ATH, 6-1, 265, Handley.

UPDATE (8:21 a.m.) Ladarius Phillips becomes the first uncommitted player to sign with Auburn. The Handley, Alabama running back is listed as a two-star back by Rivals. He's listed as 6'1, 275 lbs., so obviously, he's not lining up at running back. Many believe he'll be moved to the defensive line.

UPDATE (8:37 a.m.) While we wait for more names to come in, here's an interesting article by Birmingham News writer Kevin Scarbinsky. I don't agree with everything he says, but there's no doubt Gene Chizik has sent notice to Nick Saban and Alabama. To possibly unseat the national champions in recruiting is simply unbelievable. Click here to read.

UPDATE (8:45 a.m.) Here's another great column about Chizik and the job he's done recruiting this year. This one is written by Sports Illustrated writer Stewart Mandel. Click here to read.

UPDATE (8:48 a.m.) HUGE WIN FOR AUBURN! Five-star offensive lineman Shon Coleman says no to Alabama and signs with Auburn. What a way to start the day. Here's Phillip Marshall's story.

UPDATE (8:56 a.m.) More names have arrived via fax to the Auburn Athletic Department...

Shon Coleman, OL, 6-7, 285, Olive Branch (Miss.)

Ryan Smith, DB, 6-1, 195, Cordova

Shaun Kitchens, WR, 6-3, 211, College Park, Ga./Banneker

Demetruce McNeal, DB, 6-0, 176, College Park, Ga./Banneker

Jeffrey Whitaker, DT, 6-3, 315, Warner Robins (Ga.)

Jawara White, LB, 6-2, 220, Troy/Charles Henderson

UPDATE (9:19 a.m.) The first surprise of the morning is the signing of running back Ryan Smith. The Cordova, Alabama native committed to Kentucky, but has apparently decided he belongs in Auburn. He was the Class 3A Back of the year in Alabama this season, rushing for 1,856 yards and 26 touchdowns. He may end up playing at safety.

UPDATE (9:26 a.m.) Four-star defensive end Corey Lemonier is set to make his announcement at around noon central time from his high school in Hialeah, Florida. Again, he's narrowed his choices to Auburn and Florida State.

UPDATE (9:35 a.m.) Two big names are now official...

Michael Dyer, RB, 5-8, 201, Little Rock Christian

Dakota Mosley, TE, 6-4, 252, Little Rock Christian

UPDATE (10:14 a.m.) More names have come across the fax machine...

Justin Delaine, DE, 6-5, 225, Linden

LaDarius Owens, LB, 6-2, 225, Bessemer/Jess Lanier

UPDATE (10:25 a.m.) No surprise here - defensive lineman Byran Jones picks Arkansas over Auburn. Here's the story.

UPDATE (10:29 a.m.) Auburn losses out on D.J. Howard, who was being recruited as an athlete. He committed today to Clemson. This is really not a shocker. Playing running back in high school, he wanted the opportunity to play on the offensive side of the ball in college. Auburn saw him as a defensive back.

UPDATE (11:18 a.m.) We're still waiting on Corey Lemonier. There have been three more signees roll in...

Jake Holland, LB, 6-1, 228, Pelham

Chad Slade, OL, 6-6, 316, Moody

Ryan White, CB, 6-0, 185, Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln

UPDATE (11:36 a.m.) Corey Lemonier's announcement is set for approximately 11:50 a.m. CT and it's being carried live on ESPN U.

UPDATE (11:50 a.m.) Corey Lemonier chooses Auburn! What a huge day for the Tigers. Just Unbelievable!

UPDATE (12:06 p.m.) Since the Lemonier announcement, paperwork has arrived for three more future Tigers...

Jessel Curry, LB, 6-2, 215, Buford (Ga.)

Chris Davis, CB, 5-11, 175, Birmingham/Woodlawn

Craig Sanders, DE, 6-4, 230, Ariton

UPDATE (12:15 p.m.) Auburn is now waiting on two letters - Trovon Reed and Joel Bonomolo. Reed's was expected last hour.  There's still no word on Bonomolo - it's only a little past 10:00 a.m. Pacific time.

UPDATE (12:43 p.m.) Here's a surprise: Auburn has signed offensive lineman Tunde Fariyike from Upson Lee High School in Thomaston, Georgia. He's rated a two-star center by Rivals. He checks in at 6'3 and 295 pounds.

UPDATE (12:55 p.m.) Thibodaux, Louisiana athlete Trovon Reed's letter of intent has arrived at Auburn.  There was some worry earlier this morning, but now it's official - He's a Tiger. The four-star signee is the number four-rated athlete in the country according to Rivals.

UPDATE (1:06 p.m.) Auburn's class is now complete. All signatures are in with the exception of defensive end Joel Bonomolo. Being on the west coast, his letter should arrive shortly. Historic is not too big a word to describe the day Gene Chizik and staff has had on the Plains. Now the hard work begins. All this talent will need lots of coaching. Expectations will be higher than ever in the coming years.  Auburn football looks to have laid the foundation for greatness with this group of players.  Only time will tell. Thanks to all of you who spent part of your day with us.  We'll have much more coverage in the days ahead. War Eagle!

i don't want to get into a cat fight with you guys..

and no doubt Chizik has done a great job…but what do you really expect from bama?

2 #1 recruiting classes in a row and a top 10 3 years ago…plus a NC….we just have too much depth, which is a good thing but it can hurt recruiting.

Ill be the first to say great job but you guys didn’t “unseat” us..so far UF has.

Go to your site today bammer.....

your words are meaningless today. Come back and talk about it after its all said and done and if you can manage to leave out the self entitled bammeresque attitude maybe we can have a conversation then.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

by Todd92 on Feb 3, 2010 8:59 AM CST up reply actions

Eh, it's gonna be a good day for Auburn

regardless of what we think. Looks like you addressed your needs well (QB, RB, OL, defensive depth). As long as that is the case, it doesn’t really matter where Rivals or Scout ranks you.

by HarveyBirdmanAAL on Feb 3, 2010 9:07 AM CST up reply actions

I am not concerned about the rankings......

and have always stated that. But at the same time I don’t want to hear kevin Bacon in his ROTC uniform screaming “All is well” either……for someone to come over without provocation and start the “well I know your class is ranked higher but we’re still better” crap is just a little childish and obnoxious.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

by Todd92 on Feb 3, 2010 9:11 AM CST up reply actions

i didn't say

our class was better Todd..stop being so sensitive. I congratulated Auburn on a damn good class, and said Chizik did a great job. I was just pointing out that eventually, after having so many good classes, Alabama was expected to drop a bit in recruiting. It happen to USC, it happen to UF last year…It will happen to AU if Chizik keeps it up…

Sorry i didn’t add the :) after my comment but ya gotta stop coming out with both guns blazing…there was a time where i came here and had civil discussions. Time has taken its toll but im not one of those “bammers” that come here just to brag…

by bammer on Feb 3, 2010 9:24 AM CST up reply actions

Actually

If you look at your LOI right now you really only have a few impressive players i dont see bama being in the top 5 they just dont have the pop in their class like the last 2 years

AUBURN is back!

No picking on you

just telling you what i see

AUBURN is back!

by auskip07 on Feb 3, 2010 9:26 AM CST up reply actions

i actually agree...

we got a great QB, very strong O linemen, a great DB and some really good players. Sure we don’t have that #1 recruit but we do have will just bolster our depth.

Thats what builds teams. The last two classes gave us amazing talent. We have great talent in this class but we are also adding depth…which is something we haven’t had in a long time..

hey

at least you have the talent to slack this year.

AUBURN is back!

by auskip07 on Feb 3, 2010 9:39 AM CST up reply actions

I feel the truth of the matter is......

that any school with a top 15 or even a top 20 recruiting class has done a great job as long as they filled their needs. The “Bragging Rights” over who has the best recruiting class is not worth much……winning on the field is.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

wow

we actually agree on something

That has always been my belief.....

and it has been voiced on here many times the past few years.

I have to disagree with him also....

Bama’s class is very solid in the top 10 and most likely top 5 and at there were very few absolute needs to fill for you guys. Regardless Bama is in reload mode at this point……but we are catching up with a vengeance on our depth chart today.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

was expecting us to sign more five stars…

by bammer on Feb 3, 2010 10:47 AM CST up reply actions

Yes bammer there was a time when you did come here and have civil conversation....

and I for the most part defended you. Then you started acting more and more like a real bammer……quoting things discussed here and taking it to rbr to chuckle about it like a bunch of 15 year old girls in a snooty clique (that is a very accurate analogy about rbr I think I’ll keep it). And you have brought that attitude here more than not…..so no I don’t have the patience for you anymore. As to your post above…..you did infer that no matter how good AU’s progress might be that Bama was still better.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

my attitude towards this

site has more to do with who runs it. Im not going to get into the details cause after a year, they seem petty. I just lost a lot of respect for some people and that bleed into my tone…

Well then ...

by PineMtTiger on Feb 3, 2010 11:17 AM CST up reply actions

I can't understand why ...

… so many bammers are so pre occupied with what Auburn people think or … are saying to each other. I don’t care to read their blogs and I’ m certainly not following any bama sites on this signing day. I especially don’t care what issues or Auburn people they like or don’t like. They are such a paranoid bunch !

DJ Howard.....

is to announce in about 18 minutes. With the defection of Ryan Smith from UK to AU, that could be tell-tale sign about his intentions…..that would be a fairly even trade were it to happen…..if not and Howard goes to Clemson then it would appear that UK would be the loser in the deal…..a UK graduate that I know would be most dissapointed.

Rumor is that he called Lattimore spreading rumors about Auburn so he would be a lock to Auburn. Auburn found out and pulled the scholly. Sad i thought he was a great Athlete but not an AU man

LSU pulling Reed away from AU would be a shocker to us....

he has been considered a lock for so long. And the word from several well connected boosters I know is that he was at least to the dead period……after that they couldn’t say for obvious reasons. So far they have been right about most things this season…and if they are right about this Lemonier and Reed are ours.

I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU

UGA down... LSU looking like it has had a couple good pick ups after a few losses

hope we can keep TREVON REED. he would be a great play maker in space in the malzahn opportunistic O.

hoping to keep reed and pick up Lemonier. I like the idea of these speedy LBs,…but he looks like he has a julius peppers frame potential…

Fobbs just signed at LSU

Even if there was a chance for Reed, there is no longer any room for him.

Although as I type that...

There is a rumor from a credible source that “Our BOOM of the day hasn’t come yet”…

Apparently we’ll make our punter commit take a gray shirt for this kid.

It is either Lache, Trovon, or Ego Feruson.

Ego Feruson

I"m hoping it's him FWIW

We need help on the Dline

Taking 5 WRs in this class would be dumb, even if that means taking Reed.

I hope you get you're wish.....

but something being dumb means it’s more likely to happen with LESS Miles.

There are a couple of reliable sources on TD.com

The same guy that claimed that we’d sign Fobbs, Copeland, and Boone today is saying it.

by LSU Jonno on Feb 3, 2010 11:06 AM CST up reply actions

To be fair

there are a couple of guys who said Reed has already signed his LOI to Auburn and will fax it in within the hour.

by LSU Jonno on Feb 3, 2010 11:08 AM CST up reply actions

I had heard that rumor a couple of hours ago from....

one of my friends in the know…..he’s the one that told me we had Lemonier, Coleman and Reed.
