A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words...
This photo was captured by Auburn University Photographer Todd Van Emst this morning at the Auburn Athletic Complex as Tiger coach Gene Chizik and Assistant Trooper Taylor react to the commitment of Corey Lemonier to Auburn over Florida State. This has been a day like no other in Auburn football history. How many times has a reigning national champion lost the recruiting battle to an in-state rival just weeks after claiming the crown? Auburn finishes the recruiting year with the fourth best class according to Rivals.com. Alabama finishes fifth.

Nice write up.
Way to include only 1 of the major recruiting websites rankings (Rivals), considering Scouts.com and Scouts, Inc. (ESPN) have Alabama on top.
In reality, it was a great class for both teams. Recruiting isn’t an exact science, so the best thing about this is that all three of those recruiting services that I mentioned predict there to be some good Iron Bowls in the future.
cheers
Roll Tide! Beat the Horns! Bring home that crystal!!!
yea, whatever...
No one can deny that Auburn is THE story in recruiting this year. Just a hint for things to come.
I don't recall
Alabama saying “Auburn finished ……” that last couple of years. That’s just a jab. I’d prefer having classic Iron Bowls games where one isn’t drasticlly favored over the other, so congrats on the recruiting. But on that note, welcome to the “University of Auburn” son. :) Sorry, couldn’t help myself. That s*!% was funny!
I didn’t hear any bama fans last year congratulating LSU for having the top ranked class on ESPN and Ohio St on Scout. All I heard was how bama signed the top ranked class. The author is just using the rules put forth by your own fans.
You are right about the signing class for both teams. I thought both teams signed a great class and I do look forward to some great Iron Bowls in the future.
Good luck to your team and have a great day.

The most important issue...
Auburn is now recruiting on a level playing field with best in the country! We no longer have to simply play outside of our abilities to beat the best in every conference. If Chizik is true to his word, and I believe he is, then in a couple more years, Auburn will be contending once again for a shot at the BCS Championship.

well actually
your class is really loaded
the only problem with the post is that your claiming that beating us thirty days after we won the National Championship and that National Title should have given us advantage
however the title couldn’t really help us with this recruiting class considering that most of the top prospects were already narrowing their choices
where a national championship helps you out the most is in the following year of recruiting where you have an entire year to beat the National Title drum for recruit as opposed to thirty days
case in point: Florida last year they fell in the rankings this year they have the best class in the nation
so it is actually not that surprising given the momentum the Barn recruiting had built up before the Title game and even the SEC title game
January 7th, 2010: the day I went from being a delusional obnoxious Alabama fan to being an obnoxious Alabama fan
I have said it before and I'll say it again....
aside from being something to piss my brother off with I don’t care about the rankings. What I care about is the fact that we filled our needs extremely well. That matters more for us than where the class ranks (same for the bammers). I will make one statement as an observation and that is the ESPN rankings are the least logical as they don’t rate or include JUCO players in their rankings…..both Rivals and Scout do.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
so you beat us in 1 of 3 rankings, and its a win? Ha ha.
Anyway, you guys did great. I had to laugh at:
How many times has a reigning national champion lost the recruiting battle to an in-state rival just weeks after claiming the crown?
That’s stretching it BIG TIME. But I will say that Gene has brought you all a LONG way from Tubby in terms of recruiting, and you should be much improved. Of course, we still won the in state battle (just like the iron bowl), so enjoy your next few months, three and two are on their way my friends! Auburn will continue to compare themselves to Alabama, and ride our coattails all the way.

A little full of yourself?
Auburn will continue to compare themselves to Alabama, and ride our coattails all the way.
Let me know when you make the bama team as a walk on so that you can rightfully claim bama as “our” team.

Really? Glad you guys never use those types of pronouns
As excited as we Tigers are today, the real measure of this class will be several years down the road.
But, even for you, this is a lame comment. All fans use the vernacular “we”, “our”, “us”, etc.
Way to avoid the obvious point of my post.

Alright
First: How are we, in any way, riding Bama’s coattails? Our coaches went out and did business and won over some major recruits. That was us and our work, not Saban’s, not yours.
Second: Yes, we will always compare ourselves to you for the simple reason that we are the little brother in the rivalry and we know it. Anyone who doesn’t admit that is being stubborn. We want our team to be the best just like everyone else, so we will measure up against the best just like everyone else. It just so happens that our rival happens to be one of the best programs of all time.
Third: Is it really necessary to come over and rub our noses in that fact on a day that we are celebrating arguably the best recruiting class in the last 20 years? I buzzed through your signing day thread and didn’t see any Auburners there drumming up trouble. For someone who is attacking us for only comparing ourselves to you, you seem to get rather antsy when we do something better…
Block quote errors + bad editing = SARCASM FAIL on my part
You are usually pretty reasonable when you post here, but with your above comment, you came off as arrogant and condescending. And I was not ignoring the 1st point of your post. I had already addressed it earlier.

I'm not gonna lie
it was a little arrogant and condescending. I do apologize for that.
Congrats – seriously – you guys have an excellent recruiting class. Dyer is a stud, and Coleman and co. will give your line needed depth.
I’m still not sold on Chizik, but this year plus the recruiting job his staff did puts you guys in the best place you have been in years. Good luck.

Please remove the vulgarity..
An intelligent response is welcome here. We will even let someone flame a little. Responses such as CT229’s is just not acceptable.

He's banned. Sorry for the profanity.
I'm wearing this Auburn shirt because I went to Auburn. You are wearing that Alabama shirt because you went to Walmart.
i'm not playing this iron bowl recruit game...
who cares. who knows what these guys can do until the ball is in play and they
are all yelled at by us to kill each other…in the real IRON BOWL.
this recruiting hits close to home for many of these schools so bunched together, and it is clear that with time, a new look to the trail (AU’s chizik, trooper & the gang) has changed the landscape for teams like bama, kentucky, georgia, etc…
i heard urban meyer in a press conference after the sign day talk about each school / program as “product”…and i think this is an accurate word to use from a coach’s perspective,…but from the recruit / player’s perspective… this “product” is not just about a new football team with crazy cool locker rooms and hot chicks everywhere. it is about moving to a school, away from home, and finding comfort there. i think Auburn did a good job offering the Family for those players.
i never did see this as a battle between Auburn and Bama for recruits, though there were a couple. Auburn had some serious needs going into next year,…and we hope to have filled those with some good players that can jump in and play. this is where we won our own battle…to land the guys we needed, and to build a personality for Auburn for future recruiting.
