The options given were:

A QB Ryan Mallett from Arkansas
B RB Mark Ingram from Alabama
C WR A.J. Green from Georgia
D WR Julio Jones from Alabama
E CB Patrick Peterson from LSU

Since Julio is obviously not better than AJ, I’m going to substitute Julio for Dareus:

A QB Ryan Mallett from Arkansas
B RB Mark Ingram from Alabama
C WR A.J. Green from Georgia
D DE Marcell Dareus from Alabama
E CB Patrick Peterson from LSU

Let’s say Ingram goes pro after this year…Is it just me or can anyone else see all 5 of these guys as top 10 picks in the NFL draft next year?

It’s hard for me to say Mallett is great becaues Petrino’s offense tends to skew QB numbers. That’s not a knock on the guy, just saying.
I still think Trent Richardson is better than Mark Ingram, and therefore I’m going to rule Ingram out.
AJ is easy to rule out since Patrick Peterson won that matchup on the field, so I’m going to rule AJ out.

That leaves Peterson and Dareus in my mind and I honestly can’t objectively pick a winner here. Dareus will likely be the higher pick in the draft so I’ll give the nod to him, but the homer in me obviously thinks PP is better.

What do you guys think?

Nice..I would have liked that Dareus switch if he hadn't gotten in trouble

Well, now that Dareus is out a couple games…he should be dropped out of it also. Patrick Peterson or AJ Green would be my two top picks…I don’t remember their game last year, but I’ll take your word and if Peterson shut him down he’s the better player.

I want to see how a 100% healthy Julio stacks up to AJ this year

but it will be hard to top when you have the two best RBs in the conference playing along side JJ.

I disagree that Trent is better right now than Ingram. He may end up better, but Ingram’s field vision is ahead of Trent’s right now.

I would say Ingram until proven otherwise. Beyond stats, he has the intangibles that won him a Heisman last year, and none of the other guys on that poll have taken over games the way he has.

I voted for Kleph and all I got was this lousy t-shirt

Not a good measuring stick...
none of the other guys on that poll have taken over games the way he has.

How can Peterson ever “take over a game” as a CB? All the other team has to do is find him, then throw to a different receiver. What Peterson does is take the opposing team’s best WR out of the game. And he does it better than any other corner in the league, and probably the country. Ingram touches the ball more than anyone else on Bama’s team not named McElroy. This is why Heisman voting is skewed towards QB’s and RB’s because they touch the ball more.

Julio caught zero passes on Peterson last year, and AJ caught 2 I believe.
Darvin Adams also rang up a goose egg on Peterson.

Wow.

……They left some guys out. Gerald Powe? No Florida guys on the menu. Peterson would get my vote. He shuts half the field down when he’s in. Dareus basically whipped a Big-Tex tackle protecting a jumpy freshman QB. Not sure he’s paid enough dues. In fact, Dareus might get caught up in agent-gate and be ruled ineligible.

Well, all the Bammers were going to say Ingram

But now they are getting their chance to scream Richardson. Meh…

Hmmm. We shall see.

I reserve the right to quote from this at season’s end.

Upon moving to AL, I let my wife decide who she would root for. After one day at a new job full of Bama fans, she met me at the door with a hearty cry of "WAR EAGLE"

by SandMountainTiger on Sep 7, 2010 10:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Its funny

Because Bama’s depth chart reads:
QB:
1. McElroy
2. McAron/Erron I dunno
3. Star Jackson’s replacement

RB:
1. Ingram
2. Richardson
3. Lacey

YET, almost every Bammer I talk to is telling me that, OH Saban has it all wrong, McAron is the better QB and Richardson is the better runningback. I mean, it all just gets a little over hyped. We get it, Alabama has talent. But quit walking around acting like your second string is better than your first string, because if they were, they’d be starting.

Now go eat some little debbies off the floor just like your man god Saban does.

Les Miles would have a thing or two to say about that…
