Blue Helmets? Blue Pants for Saturday?
The message boards have been humming with rumors today that Auburn will be wearing blue pants this weekend when they welcome Clemson to Pat Dye Field. It's gotten so much attention that Auburn coach Gene Chizik was asked about it earlier tonight.
"Our uniforms are our uniforms and we love them,'' Chizik said. He was pressed again by reporters and said unequivocally that Auburn would be in their traditional uniforms come Saturday night.
A few hours later, the website, warblogle.com published the above picture of a navy Auburn helmet. Whether it's authentic is anyone's guess. It certainly looks real enough. But then again, I've seen orange and blue game-ready helmets for sale at the local Auburn bookstores for several years.
Make of it what you will. What we do know is that school officials want all Auburn fans attending the Clemson contest to wear blue in the stadium. This is to off-set the orange worn by Clemson and to force close to 80,000 people to shop the local stores looking for blue Auburn shirts.
It's pure marketing genius on Auburn's part and will ensure that the children of J&M Bookstore and Tiger Rags have good Christmases.
So what do you think? Good idea or bad idea?

You're Right...
It’s certainly the hot topic of many boards. I have to admit, navy pants with navy jerseys and navy helmets and a crowd full of navy shirt wearing fans would really be something to see.
But alas, I’m a traditionalist.

I must admit
When I first heard about possibly wearing blue helmets, I was completely against it. After seeing the picture of the helmet, though….it looks pretty sweet!
Do you remember that spelling bee you won in the first grade? Rock? "R-O-K"?
This is just to funny...
I live in Red Raider Country where I was born.
Been going through this traditional uniform/helmet/fashion police thing for a week now.
Now it starts on my very own Alma Mater?!?!?
I don’t care what they wear!!! The helmet looks, well, looks cool. I think I like it! As long as there is enough orange that we can yell “Orange/Blue” who cares? BEAT THOSE BOBCATS POSING AS TIGERS!!!!!!!!!

If they whip the piss out of Clemson......
They can wear all pink for all I care!! - and with all the “awareness” games/uniforms nowadays….could a Breast Cancer “pink out” be far behind!!!
Col.Angus may be rough, Col.Angus may not smell like a bed of roses, but deep down Col.Angus is very sweet. If I overstay my welcome, just tap me on the head!!
Leave that *stuff*

Ridiculous
Anyone remember the big blackout? This gimmick worked out really well for UGA when they played bama. Stay with the traditional uniform.
You guys have selective memories.
Listen, I’m not pushing the change in uniforms nor am I speaking against it. I think that whatever Auburn chooses, the uniforms will at least not be horribly ugly. I must, however, remind you guys of the Blackout used by Georgia and how bad Auburn lost that game. It was a painful loss and one that still sticks out in my mind. I am just saying that it did work once and did not work the second time with Alabama in town.
Nay, Nay, 1000 times NAY...
Don’t mess with the uniforms. That helmet in the pic looks like an older model to me, btw.
Upon moving to AL, I let my wife decide who she would root for. After one day at a new job full of Bama fans, she met me at the door with a hearty cry of "WAR EAGLE"

I just care about winning.
I like the idea of wearing a blue helmet and/or pants. However I don’t think we should go all navy though. That is too much and we need to incooparate all of the colors. I think the picture is misleading. Really doubt Jay Jacobs would want all blue.
I like it. I know I am in the minority here, but a little change would be nice.
I think the guys on the team would get a lot of fun out of wearing something different for a change. I mean not even once a year. But it would be nice to see SOMETHING different.
Auburn has fantastic traditions. No one can argue that. But its not like we have the Yankee pinstripes of college football uniforms. A little brief change would not hurt and it would pump up extra excitement.

I agree
And I think this game could shape up our season, so a little motivation wouldn’t hurt at all. It would get everyone pumped for the game. I just don’t want it to get overused because personally I think we have one of the top 5 uniforms in the country. I would hate it if we became an Oregon like team and had a different uniform every week.
chiz on AU undercover said we're wearing our regular uniforms...whew...that was a close one.
we don’t need no stinkin AU uni gimmick! that is the kind of thing that you can ONLY regret afterwards.
you just don’t toy with tradition when what you’re trying to do is find
CONSISTENCY
in your football team early in a season.
this idea is absurd.
wappa
I'm not totally opposed....
but not for saturday….and never for a big game. If you want to mix things up do it against ULM or Chattanooga. That might actually increase attendance for those games.
But for big games or rivalry games? NEVEREVEREVEREVEREVER!!! If you need an extra something for those games you might as well not even play college football.

I think the word 'gimmick"
has been absolutely thrashed with this whole uniform thing.
Who says the coaches are relying on this to win?
Why would the uniform make a difference in one week than any other week?
It would fire up the crowd for sure, but it also makes sense with the theme of the day. True Blue.
Those UGA fools have given uniforms changes a bad rep. Why can’t it just be mixed up every now and then?

That helmet looks awesome
For a big time game in primetime, I think a helmet change with regular uniforms would be sweet.

This rumor is not losing much steam it seems.
And the way Chizik answered the question from the video on AL.com just makes me think he’s fibbing.
As soon as the question is asked he just kind of smirks. Then he denies it very awkwardly. And uses a round about way to word his response as well. Oh well. Whether they do it or not, I hope they play well. That’s all that really matters.
I do know for a fact that they have access to blue helmets and pants. And its been that way for quite some time now.

AU does not need to sully it's traditional look.....
not with blue helmets, blue pants, orange jerseys, or anyother color change. We are the Auburn Tigers and our Uniforms are unique in Division 1A without the change.
I would have gone to bammer if my grades hadn't been good enough to go to AU
