Emotions & Never Say Never!
Sometimes I find myself all caught up in emotions and can't for the life of me figure out why I let myself do that. I'm really a laid back kinda guy. I just don't surround myself with ignorant situations and I can keep my cool 99.9% of the time. Not during football games however. No sir, I must admit a weakness that does not allow for control in the face of the adversity that entangles college football.
Now I'm not saying that I get so carried away, that the language I use would make my US Navy buddies wife, who is an ex-hooker blush. (just kidding, I have no US Navy friends) But even if said friend existed, and his wife was an ex-hooker, I could not make her blush with my language. Laugh, yes. Blush, no way. My darling wife whom I have been married to for 32 years just rolls her eyes and walks away in disgust.
Last Saturday night was very emotional for me, and for many of you as well. Our beloved Tigers just didn't look like our Tigers. They didn't perform as we had hoped. We believed our own hype, and failed to realize that sometimes things happen that are unexpected. Adversity! Imposter's, is what I believe Coach Chizik has said before. He has preached that since his arrival on the Plains, and I for one gave it no thought. Good thing our thoughts didn't get carried to the team at halftime.
Instead Coach Chizik went in to talk to the players, and told them to keep their smiles on, there is still another half to play. "You came in here with smiles on your faces before the game, keep on smiling, this ain't over!"
When I rationally go back and look at the game, the incredible statistical advantage Clemson had through 24 minutes of the first half was rocking and shaking my foundation. Cracks began to emerge, and I was at a loss as to how this could be. I even started to question the staff's ability to get our guys ready to play. Talk about irrational, wow, I had to stop and think a minute.
At halftime, I went for a little walk, thought some things through. The players obviously hadn't quit. They were just getting beat by Dabo's bunch. So, how do we go about fixing the problem areas, and quit letting Clemson's Tigers outplay ours?
Whatever the coaches did at halftime, whatever adjustments they made, they worked! They worked to near perfection, and in less than one quarter of football Auburn had taken the game over and, was marching toward victory. It took Overtime, but victory nonetheless.
A valuable lesson was in there, somewhere deep inside the games numbers. That Auburn actually led Clemson in total yardage is a miraculous feat. the defense held Clemson to only 5 of 15 on 3rd down attempts. The whole game! When for all intents and purposes it looked like we had lost the game by halftime! Boy am I ever so glad to eat those words!
I'll never doubt this team again. No matter what, I'll believe that they can pull off the come from behind, at will. That's what it takes to be a true fan, and I'm all in!

Good post.
I was probably one of the biggest (if not the biggest :/) critics after the game against Clemson. It was just so frustrating seeing us struggle against a team we were ‘supposed’ to show out against. We had the big stage(ESPN Gamdeday) and I still feel like we didn’t take full advantage of it. The OT win was great, but recruits and writers saw 15th ranked Auburn in a struggle with an unranked team. BUT, that is just me seeing the glass half empty. I should be more excited about the comeback, the resilience shown, hell to be able to root for a team that can score points as fast us, and to be part of the best family on Earth. The Auburn Family.
From now on, I’ll start trying to see things a little brighter. There’s no sense in getting completely worked over something you can’t control.

Your post indicates that you have things a bit "mixed up"
The “war” part is a portion of the Auburn battle cry of “War Eagle” and the “chicken” part, well, isn’t a gamecock something of a chicken?
Thanks for contributing and for your two cents…

Glad you were nice to him..

I'm a USC fan.
I was attempting to be humorous by using your team’s battle cry for my team’s purposes.

good stuff folks. believe, believe, believe!… the alternative really sucks…
and it is clear this team will not stop fighting. still, the resolve, the ability of this team to pull out miraculous come backs like last sat,.. this team’s confidence in the face, IN THE FACE… of adversity…
cliche after cliche…
still, is only something i can root for, desperately pray for in my living room with my head in my hands … BUT, i am close to depending on it after last saturday’s battle with clemson. that, was a serious battle… and we’ve got another tomorrow night.
i depend on Auburn not giving up… because it appears consistent with the personality and leadership that has filled this team. until proven otherwise, i’ll expect nothing but a fight from the orange and blue.
there is one thing that kills me though… when you beat yourselves. Auburn has got to clean up its game and turn these challenges into clear measures of quality and innovation, athleticism, and strategy. these matchups we’ve got this year can’t be burdened by excessive penalties any longer!
the pride has to come out and display itself on saturday. the pride to fight a clean battle… and still win.
i appreciate the emotion here. it is like family. i am confident this team feels it, no matter where it is.

I ain't mad in the slightest

I have been negative? I don’t know what you’re talking about…
Haha, you right you right. I’ve had my cynical glasses on the last few of weeks.

Keep the Faith!
If this team can do it, isn’t it appropriate that the AU fans stand up strong? I for one see how important last Saturday’s game was for this team. We were BLOWN out in the first half and yet found the determination to come back and win. Even the Refs were seemingly conspiring against us.
If you have ever played competitive sports then you know how hard it is overcome negative momentum and find a way to scratch back into a game and win. It was truly an inspiring turn around that only special football teams can accomplish.
Its good to be an Auburn Tiger!
Proud of the players and our coaching staff for showing heart and digging deep. I think we look back at this one and realize that this was the turning point for this young team. Good to Great!
Saturday nights game vs the Gamecocks will prove my point!

You can blame me.
I was at a friend’s house, having dinner with him and his Granny. Thought it might be disrespectful to ask for the game to be turned on. My friend’s uncles turned on the game to “watch Auburn get their ass whupped” (Bammers). As soon as I started watching, the Tigers started scoring. Left the house to tell someone bye, and Clemson scored again. I put the “Double Mississippi Delta Voodoo Wiggy” on Clemson’s kicker, and he missed, so I made up for it…
Upon moving to AL, I let my wife decide who she would root for. After one day at a new job full of Bama fans, she met me at the door with a hearty cry of "WAR EAGLE"

Good read KB.
I hope we all learned " a valuable lesson." The win is more proof for me that we have a great staff. As wareaglecb2 indicated above, it’s very difficult to overcome the momentum of your opponent once you fall way behind. This staff did not panic, kept the team from panicking, and made the necessary adjustments at half time to turn it around … gave us a great win and made us all proud. War Eagle – Beat Carolina !

Right on Point
Great Read.
As long as this group of Tigers continues to go all out no matter what the outcome the Auburn Family must continue to support them with everything in us.
anyone find the experience of rooting for this team fundamentally different than...
those AU teams … say,… back in 2004?
the offensive personality creates extreme highs and lows for me. back with Tubs, Caddy, and Brown… those 16,… 18 play drives ending in a hard run to the Touchdown seemed almost like it was worth more that 6 points. i used to punch the air in front of me when those guys would dive or run people over into the endzone.
now, this offense and its built-in unpredictability doesn’t allow you the opportunity as much to ramp up your excitement. scoring strikes can come out of nowhere…and at times, i am hardly settled to celebrate them.(especially when a 3rd and 8 turns into a 40 yard bomb or something like that)
this is a very different brand of football…for the players, and the fans.
wappa
Different, yes -- And I understand your point
But, by golly, I’ll take the 6 (or the 3 as the case may be) either way!! :)
DWWD -- WDE!
you know that's right! :) Touchdown Auburn! ... sounds just as good.
WDE… here’s to a hope that Auburn comes out FAST in this one!

Yes, fast and CONFIDENT!

I voted depends on the circumstances but really it should be it depends on the
COACHING and PLAY CALLING circumstances. We may not be explosive all around yet but I am glad to hear we may be opening up the passing game a bit again. I am not holding my breath, however. I would truly rather lose going all out than wimping it by running on 1st down every time. That TOTALLY ticks me off. I would rather see what some more of our players can do during a game and with more variation in plays. JMO
Whatever happens, I just pray the boys don’t get hurt and that it is a clean game by the refs for once.
That said, I am still keeping hope alive for tomorrow! GO TIGERS! Let Aubie eat the gamecock for dinner! WDE!

I've been there on the emotional...
…..roller coaster during Auburn games. Honestly, the worst game for me was in 1990. We were 6-0-1, ranked third in the nation, and the top two teams lost. I was hosting a huge Auburn party that night. I was the first person in the family to get cable TV, and Auburn was playing on ESPN Primetime (or whatever they called it back then.)
…..The level of excitement and hype was unbelievable. People were running outside and screaming “War Eagle” as early as 5:00 PM. The game came on, and folks were bouncing off the walls.
…..Well, we got it handed to us that night. New Florida coach Steve Spurrier rolled up a 34-7 halftime lead, en route to a 48-7 beating. The Pat Dye administration took a knock-out blow it would never recover from. It wasn’t really even that close. Florida could have scored a hundred. If there was ever a night for Auburn people jumping off the side of Red Mountain, that was it. Luckily, I didn’t have much of a liquor cabinet in those days!
……I try not to yo-yo so much any more. I get hugely fired up when Auburn does well, but I just keep on chopping wood otherwise. That play-by-play thing I do? I was still there plugging at the end of the worst Auburn game in decades. I’ll be there watching every game, even if we’re 0-11. War Eagle!
……Honestly, I was more worried about Auburn’s chances in the first half this time LAST year, than this year. This time, I knew Chizik’s guys would battle back. This time last year, I survived a monsoon, and was sitting in my seat in Jordan Hare, next to fellow writer War Eagle Atlanta. We had given up a 56 yard bomb to the fullback on the opening drive, and then a 70 yard Noel Devine run. It was 14-0, and the metal butt-fatigue from the stands hadn’t even started to kick in. I just KNEW we were doomed to lose 70-0, and all I’d take home were soaking wet clothes. I still can’t believe how Auburn came back and won that game!
…..I’ve really had pretty good luck attending Auburn games. It had been a really long time since my college days, but I went back for the first time for the 2002 Georgia game (a 24-21 heart-breaking loss). Since then Auburn is 11-2 in games I’ve attended. The losses were to South Florida in 2007, and Arkansas in 2008. Here’s hoping the Acid Reign luck continues!
Please cheer louder for me Acid!!!
I got so sick at the game last week I have basically been in bed for four days with what I think is a horrendous sinus infection that feels like pneumonia and choking to death. So, I am not able to go and get hot tomorrow, plus I don’t think I could stand all night or walk up those stairs w/o fainting. I know I could never stop trying to holler either.
I just can’t stand the thought of “my” seat being taken up by an SC fan. I will be in my armchair shaking my shaker and twirling my Trooper towel like a crazy sick person, though! :)

Get checked out...
..by a doctor. There’s actually a “whooping cough” epidemic going around. I know it sounds like a 1930s looney toon deal, but it’s not. I’ve had a relative recently get sick from it, and it’s no joke. The big Z-pack antibiotic treatment is the best way to slow it down.
…..No worries on the noise. Getting me to shut up is the real trick. War Eagle!
Oh Lord. My ribs don't hurt with an SI usually but...
…I’ve coughed so hard and so much that they do & I may need to ask about that. Thanks!
P.S. Hope your relative is better.
