Friday Ramblings - Zero Chance
WAR EAGLE, HEY!
I could end this post right there, and would have summed up my feelings for this season's version of the Tiger Bowl.
Seriously, a fresh face at QB that clearly showed some improvement over what we had witnessed out of that position in 2-1/2 games. Linebackers finally getting the entire picture on their assignments with improved pass coverage, and much improved run stoppage.
The defensive front showing remarkable improvement in penetration via the pass rush, and better understanding of the entire scheme.
Add to that, a killer special teams group, that Coach Taylor calls "WE-fense", and you have the recipe needed for something special to happen in Baton Rouge this weekend.
I am Mr. Homer McHomerson, I know, but I just can't shake this feeling. You guys laughed at me early last season when I said the same thing. Laugh all you want to, I'll stick with my gut feeling.
Coach Chizik has stated that Clint Moseley had a great week of practice. Unfortunately, the injury bug is still on Blake, Reed, and we learned this week that Jared Cooper will miss the rest of the season. Surgery was performed on his foot, Monday, and hopefully the recovery process will start soon. Get Well Jared.
Just call this, sad.
Prosecutors said during today's preliminary hearing that Jemison, who played quarterback at McAdory High School and then linebacker for a brief time at Auburn University before leaving the team in 2009, went to see Williams with the intent to purchase drugs. Prosecutors said Jemison and Williams argued and then Jemison shot and robbed the 23-year-old Bessemer man.
Marcus Jemison, who was briefly with the team, has problems. More than he ever wanted. Statistics show, that straightening his life out after these kinds of troubles are slim. Here's to hoping he can, and does.
Speaking of horrible subjects, the trial date for the, not so fantastic four, is set for March 11th, 2012.
Homecoming on the Plains...
Looks like a pay per view event. I stated earlier in the season, that I thought the Auburn officials would have something special planned for Pat Sullivan, for this year's homecoming. He is the Head Coach at Samford University, Auburn's opponent.
It would be a fantastic time to honor Auburn's first Heisman Award winner.
I told you so...
Missouri's Board of Curators is meeting this week with plans to discuss departure from the Big12 and applying for membership into the SEC.
I knew this story wasn't going to just die, and the frustration developed by ESPN, the Big12 front office, and the University of Texas has been too much for most respectable schools to endure for long.
Argue all you want about brand "A" vs. Brand "B" but Texas doesn't bring as much to the table as to keep everyone else in the conference from eating along side them.
While we are talking about conference dislikes, and such, UConn basketball coach Geno Auriemma believes the whole problem with the Big East is because of Notre Dame not being a football member. Yeah that's the reason, Geno. Not that the conference is worthless as a whole as far as football goes. It's the Catholic's fault. Sure it is.
SEC hands down suspensions...
Maybe, I am looking at this wrong, but this is what Mark Richt, the head football coach at the University of Georgia had to say about the incident that happened last weekend ....
"For the most part, everybody's blood gets hot and things happen that everybody's not too proud of and we reflect and correct and we move on, so that's what we're doing," Georgia coach Mark Richt said Wednesday on the SEC coaches' teleconference.
Is it me, or did he just pooh-ppoh the whole deal about his DC getting in the face of another coach from another school, while three players get suspensions?
I hope I am interpreting that remark the wrong way.
Game Time...
I think there are three keys to this game with LSU that Auburn must have, in order to beat the Bengal Cats. Here they are.
1.) Moseley must have his best week of practice. Knowing the playbook is not a problem, he has been in Malzahn's offense for 2 and a half years, so he knows the plays.
2.) Auburn's defense must control the line of scrimmage, and not allow LSU to run at will. Create some turnovers, and keep LSU's QB's running for their life.
3.) The offense must continue to run the ball well, and have a successful day passing the ball, with zero turnovers.
If all of that comes to fruition, then and only then will Auburn have a decent shot at upsetting LSU. If they come out flat, or have several turnovers, and can't stop the run, they will have, zero chance to win. That's the way I see it anyway.

I think you left out one big key
Field position, if we can keep LSU deep with Parkay punts and make them to the length of the field we will be way ahead of the curve. Might even get a deep turnover and an easy score.
I just hope they erect the Saban statue/altar/shrine before he leaves
That's true,
Field position is key in every game, so, I didn’t use it as a key. I just felt that was more of a general rule sorta thing. My fault, really should have added that I guess.
I was more looking specifically at this game, and what Auburn needs to do to have a chance to be competitive in the fourth quarter.
If we punt too often, the fourth quarter will be our undoing.

Agreed on the too many punts
In this game specifically, unless the Hat goes haywire (which is a posibility) the book says no passing deep in your own territory. The more times we get them one dimensional, the better chance we have on stopping them on D.
A couple of punts down inside the 5 could be HUGE. Parkay has done it before. A turnover at midfield is not nearly as big as one in the red zone. With the defense we will be facing, short fields may be a necessity.
I just hope they erect the Saban statue/altar/shrine before he leaves
So long as they aren't armpunts
I’ll agree.

OOPS, I knew that. Jeez, it has been a hell of a week.
On top of that I just read where SI had him second team mid season All American. Quick, someone get me a sign

Happens to everyone. I was at a party with my wife one night and there was a guy there (a friend of a friend kind of thing) that I didn’t know very well. I thought his name was John. I proceded to call him that all night long. It wasn’t until the party was over that she told me his name was Jim.

My keys to the game
1. Penalties and negative plays-We can’t keep putting ourselves in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and long and expect to win the game. Likewise, our defense can’t shoot themselves in the foot with silly personal fouls like last game.
2. The flu-A terrible flu epidemic must break out on the LSU campus today, forcing 85-90% of the LSU team to miss the game.
3. Turnovers-We have to force a few and not turn it over ourselves. This brings me to my next point.
4. Vasoline/Astroglide-Yes that’s right. I want all balls kicked or punted by us covered in one of the two so that LSU return men have no chance of fielding the ball.
5. Field position-LSU has won the field position battle in every game they have played this season. We have to find a way to turn that around.
6. Demonic Possession-A gang of terrible football playing demons from the deepest and darkest depths of hell must take over our guys, especially the quarterback, and have them playing lights out ball.
If we get 3 or 4 of these, I think we have a chance.

The Walking Dead
Really cool show about the zombie apocalypse. Just started second season. Season 1 on netflix if brutal zombie gore doesn’t bother you. Probably should wait til lil ToTM goes to bed though! Also if you’re interested in training for the impending zombie apocalypes you should run for your lives…

I have a good feeling about the game. I’m not saying we win, but I think it will be a good game.

I don't know what we would want Richt to say?
He can’t really control the actions of his DC; he can create an environment that shuns that sort of behavior, and everyone else will fall in line. Obviously, that will never happen.

Wait, what happened to Mizzou joining the Big 10 or whatever it is now?
by Tiger on the mountain on Oct 21, 2011 9:18 AM CDT reply actions
They've been going to join us for over a month
The deal was done. It’s the structure of the deal that’s in question. Until yesterday.
by SEC Supremacist on Oct 21, 2011 9:19 AM CDT up reply actions
They will be joining the SEC East in ...
… probably less than 10 days. The reason it’s the East is mainly because Bama and Tenn. do not want to lose their annual game. Their objection, to have any strength had to be supported by at least two other schools. My guess is those two are probably Ga. and Fla. who would not be happy about giving Auburn even more visiability in their states for recruiting.
So basically, the hold up has been appeasing Tuscaloosa. That objection is off the table if Mizzou goes to the East. Bama has to have things their way (ala Texas?).

Ugghh...
I have been in denial that all of this was happening. I was clinging to all of the rumors that they were headed to the Big 10(?). I was almost looking forward to moving to the East. Oh well.

This has absolutely nothing to do with this post.
Have any of you seen this? I think there’s a bammer fan somewhere with a little too much time on his hands. If this doesn’t say I’m still just a little butthurt about last season, nothing does.
I’m not sure if Jay, Acid, Kool, ATM and WEA should be pissed off or flattered.

It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Can't you publish it in the Fan Posts?
Lil ToTM is going to be Elmo. We thought that he wanted to be an angry bird, because he’s all about playing Angry birds on Mr. ToTM’s iPad (um yeah, he’s not even two yet-if you want to nominate us for Parent’s of the Year, take a number)..so we showed him a couple of ‘bird’ costumes and he kept saying ‘Elmo, ELmO, ELMO!’…
not that you needed to hear all of that. Personally, I want to go as Listeria and for Mr. ToTM to go as a cantaloupe, but that’s a long shot…

D@!N it,
…..I have to work on Halloween night. Thinking of burning a PTO day… Of course, we don’t get trick or treaters on our end of the street anymore. Not since the amp incident…
…..I love Halloween, always have. It’s a time for excess, fun, dressing up, and slightly scary stuff. Face paint is my deal. Haven’t quiiitte… had the courage to do it in JH Stadium, but I might someday.
…..We live on a quiet little older-home cul-de-sac in a Birmingham suburb, and it’s a strange mix of older retirees, and young upwardly-mobiles, mostly. Sill, about the time my kids were approaching upper grade school, they and their friends were all about the costumes and the tricks ‘n’ treats. Well, mostly about the treats….
…..With the prospect of some older trick or treaters, I prepared. No, not your lawn decorations. Heck, Auburn was headed towards a 3-8 season, and had lost to Vanderbilt! No, I wasn’t going to a huge amount of trouble!
…..I pulled out a few of my old 1980s metal duds, and went for a green and black skull face on the paint. Our yard was pretty neglected, with a combination of high stalks of fall-dried Johnson grass, and the first leaves of fall. I did have a candle-lit pumpkin on the porch. The most evil frowny-face Acid pumpkin I could manage.
…..We’ve got a full basement in this old Depression-Era concrete block and oak house, with mostly shrub-concealed casement windows all around. I rolled a couple of 120 watt guitar amp heads and 4×12 inch Celestion speaker cabinets up to a pair of cracked-open casement windows. I fed a mike through compression, long echo delay, and an octave-down pitch shift, into those amps, turned up wide open.
…..When we’d see kids turning the corner onto our section of the street, I’d light a commercial-level smoke bomb, retreat indoors, and start murmuring into the mike. This would fill the neighborhood with a low, echo-ey gutteral sound. Naturally, it attracted kids, who’d nervously approach the smoking house.
…..I’d continue my sinister monologue through the mike-speaker arrangement, and peer through narrowed blinds as young marks kids approached the house. Once they had ascended the steps to the porch, I’d go nuts with the mike, and rip the door open. ROOOOOAAAARRRR!!!! Out would jump the green/black skull-goblin, as echo-ey noise erupted that could be heard for miles! Kids shrieked, dropped trick-or-treat-bags, fell down, or fled while having serious bathroom accidents! Residents of this household watched from darkened rooms and chortled over their drinks! A few brave kids who refused to bend, got a chance to howl into the microphone themselves, and enjoy the cacophony.
…..Well, we were the talk of the neighborhood for a while, and we had accumulated a stash of candy that lasted through February. Don’t get any trick or treaters, these days…
......Drowning in cool elixir.
I found a smoke machine in a mini storage unit in one of my complexes
Their unit was up for auction and I confiscated it before the sale. I concele it in the bushes beside the front walk and as soon as the little vermin get close I fire it. It looks like the entry of the team out of the tunnel and makes a pretty loud whoosing sound.
I vary between some going, “Do it again” and “How dare you do that”.
I just hope they erect the Saban statue/altar/shrine before he leaves
Just for good measure...
