Blake Hopes for Big Day Against Georgia

More than once this year I've wondered what Auburn's offense may have been like if Darvin Adams hadn't made the serious mistake of declaring early for the NFL draft. Cam Newton and Nick Fairley were a foregone conclusion. Adams' move was reminiscent of Ronney Daniels back in 2000. It was plain dumb.

Adams mistake was junior wide receiver Emory Blake's (Jr. WR) opportunity. With three games remaining, Blake has yet to live up to the production of Adams a year ago, but he knows legends are made in November. A big day tomorrow at Georgia will go a long way toward turning around his season.

"November is a football month, especially when you come to two rival games (Georgia and Alabama) like that. That's when a lot of memories are made," Blake said.

After starting six games last year and leading the team in touchdown catches, Blake figured to be the go to person in offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn's offense this season. That was the case through the first four games, then Blake suffered a high ankle injury against South Carolina on October 1st. He's struggled to get on the field ever since.

"It has been very tough (not playing), especially when you know you can have an impact on the game and change the game for the better," Blake said. "It's been very tough for me to sit there and watch."

For the season, Blake has 24 catches for 404 yards and five touchdowns.

Two weeks ago against Ole Miss, Blake finally got back in the groove with a team-high five receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. The game put him over the 1,000 yard mark in career receptions.

Auburn coach Gene Chizik knows Blake and fellow receiver Trovon Reed must be ready for his team to have a chance.

"It's big for us, there's no question about it," said Chizik. "Whether they're at 85 percent or 100 percent, just having them on the field is really big for us in terms of what we call, how we call it.

"Having Emory back the other night versus Ole Miss, it was obvious in some third-down situations, him making some big catches and things of that nature that were all at the right time, makes a difference for your whole football team."

The stats tell the story. When Blake is healthy, Auburn usually wins. When paired up with tight-end Phillip Lutzenkirchen, they are nearly unstoppable. Auburn is 19-2 when either Blake or Lutzenkirchen catches a touchdown pass. They are 6-0 when both catch a touchdown.

Blake expects to be close to 100 percent ready tomorrow. Despite being 13-point underdogs, you have to like Auburn's chances should he get back to early season form. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. The game will be carried nationally by CBS Sports.

Blake's gotta have a big game to give us a chance.

I like our chances on Saturday. But Georgia has a solid team, and it’s going to be a very physical game. War Eagle!

I think you're right.

Except for USC, teams have opened up running lanes by throwing the ball against UGA. USC found success without much passing help (and they scored 21-28 on D/ST), but they’re alone in that regard. Vandy (!!!) found success by getting Rogers out of the pocket to throw. Florida and UT both finished with negative or minimal yards on the ground. Dyer will get his yards, but he’s probably going to need some help.

Blake is key in that regard. But so are McCalebb and Lutz. We’ve struggled with short routes across the middle of the field and wheel routes. If our ILBs come off the snap worrying about coverage instead of going all slammer on Dyer, then Auburn’s going to move the ball well. Blake stretches the field (if Moseley is credible deep) and compounds the defense’s problems.

Safe travels to Athens, all who come. I hope the ride is wonderful, the weather pleasant, the traffic nonexistent, and the game beautiful. I hope the ride home is all of those things, too, except I want you to have the lingering hurt of a soul-crushing defeat. But let’s focus on the good stuff.

I wonder what could've been with Darvin too...

The fact that he left and went early still gets to me. Not because Auburn doesn’t have him. No, it bugs me because it was too early for him to leave for the draft. He’s not ever going to make it now and he blew his career making that decision. I love Darvin Adams and I sincerely hope I’m wrong. I just don’t see him ever making it now. Had he wait for his senior year, he might have been drafted higher and made a couple million. Now, he’s just begging for a chance. Damn, that one is a big punch right to the gut. Here’s to you Darvin. I hope you prove me wrong and make it man. I really do.

It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.

He is listed 'active' on the Carolina Panthers roster.

But he is an ‘undrafted free agent’, which probably means that he doesn’t get paid as much as the others, but he is still likely commanding a decent pay check by anyone’s standards. He doesn’t have any stats yet, so I don’t think that he is getting any playing time. But if you think of Cam being QB, it’s gotta be easier to see how Adams can fit into that scheme. My hope is that he keeps choppin’ wood, just like he was taught to do.

Well...

I am glad he’s at least on a practice squad. Like I said, I love Darvin and wish him the best. Please Darvin, make it big time man and get you a big huge contract. I do hope you guys know I really would love for him to succeed. Please, don’t think quite so badly of me.

It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.

It takes all kinds, to get us to where we all want to go. In life, we humans are a team, and we must all work/play together for us all to enjoy our existence here.

Today will be a battle... let us pray for a resilient team. One that knows no fear...

Auburn will have to come in to the doggies den and fight it out with some pretty tough canines. This is going to be a pooch fest. I wouldn’t doubt before it’s all through, there will be dog poop flying… along with some fur.

The RedCoats will try to intimidate… but I don’t think that happens today. I think AU weathers the storm. We take our licks… and we give them right back. These pooches are all going to the pound.

My prayer is that these young men play up to their potential. May they win for the Glory of Ole Auburn and represent her well.

War Damn Eagle!!!!!

Praying

for both teams. I live in Alabama and am an avid Dawg fan. My Auburn friends and I go after each other alot but all in fun. This will be a “WAR” and hopefully the Dawgs win! We never hate on Auburn, only detest Florida and Tennessee. If Florida played Iraq, I might pull for them then..lol..maybe. Good luck Auburn.
