Time to Give Thanks...
It's hard to believe another Thanksgiving is upon us. One thing I've learned as I've aged is that time moves faster. This is my sixth year doing the annual Thanksgiving column. It started as a tribute to former Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist Furman Bisher.
Since I was a child, I've raced to the paper box and now the internet to read Bisher's yearly Thanksgiving column. For me, his column is as traditional as turkey and dressing. He turned 93 last week and yes, he'll be back tomorrow to give thanks and bring joy to millions of readers.
I hope you'll indulge me a moment as I give thanks for another wonderful year...
I'm thankful for having another year with my wife. I can't believe we've been together for nearly 20 years. This past year was trying at times and that's when I truly felt the depths of her love. I'm a lucky man...
I'm thankful for the few fall days we have each year. As I sit here in shorts and t-shirt, I wonder what happened to the seasons...
I'm thankful for the few times a year where I have no cell phone coverage. It's liberating to be in my car where no one can find me...
I'm thankful for groups like Toomer's for Tuscaloosa. These are the people who should be the face of the rivalry, not idiots who poison trees...
I'm thankful when Auburn stadium announcer Ric Smith screams, "Here come the Tigers," to signify Auburn's return to the football field following halftime. Growing up, that's how Carl Stevens helped bring the team onto the field prior to kickoff. It brings back so many memories...
I'm thankful when my 16 year-old daughter comes through the door on Saturday night - safe for another week. How I love that girl! ...
I'm thankful for Chick-Fil-A. Why can't McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's be that efficient? Is it that hard? ...
I'm thankful to have lived through the Larry Munson era. Thought I'm Auburn to the core, I loved listening to that man call a football game. He was the best...
I'm thankful when I get a real piece of mail in my mailbox. In this internet age, we're all lucky to get one hand written letter a year - at best...
I'm thankful the presidential election is less than a year away...
I'm thankful for old sports writers like Clyde Bolton. The internet will never take the place of pulling a Birmingham News from the paper box on Sunday morning after a big Auburn win...
I'm thankful to have a 10 year-old son that's all original. He makes me laugh every day. I couldn't be more proud to be his father...
I'm thankful that my kids attend a school where they can openly pray - even if I have to pay for it...
I'm thankful to still have my grandparents after all these years. Spending time in their house at Thanksgiving is what life's all about for me...
I'm thankful for the NBA lockout. There's nothing worse than spoiled, over-paid athletes...
I'm thankful for all of Acid Reigns emails through the year. He tells the best stories in the world. One day I'm going to publish them into a book - they are that good...
I'm thankful for tacky Christmas decorations. The tackier, the better...
I'm thankful my kids had the chance to roll Toomer's Corner. The University won't say it outright, but we know the end is near for that landmark...
I'm thankful for War Eagle Atlanta. I almost quit this gig six years ago because the burden of doing it alone was too much. He stepped in to help and the rest is history. He is more responsible than anyone else for this site prospering...
I'm thankful for this entire team that makes TET happen. We've become close over the years and I think of them as family, even if we don't get together as much as we should. It's not always easy coming up with stories in the middle of May. These guys are true professionals...
I'm thankful for spring baseball games at Plainsman Park. I've said it before, if you haven't been, you are really missing out...
Finally, I'm most thankful for you. Thanks to each of you who visit daily and to our regular commenters that make this site so darn entertaining. This is a special community. When I look at our rival sites, I realize how lucky we are to be Auburn people. I look forward to spending many more years with each of you.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. War Eagle and Beat Bama!

And might I add a “Ditto” on nearly everything you said?
Not to be too wordy… I think it’s time to eat!
WDE
BEAT bAMA… this year they will have to be our sugar substitute!
Here Here!!
Great Post Jay!
Thanks for all you do. This is the one site I go to religiously every day. When there isn’t much for a 44 year old to look forward to everyday, its a great pleasure to talk Auburn sports whenever I can.
On the Toomers Trees…is there no truth to the rumor that they are planning to transplant some mature oaks during the Christmas break?
(and from one Furman fan to another)

I think it is safe to say we are all thankful for you and your TET postings.
I just hope they erect the Saban statue/altar/shrine before he leaves
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
We know that we have a special ‘place’ here at TET and thanks to all who make it possible.
I’m thankful for my family, my health and my job. Not so small things like a roof over my head and a table to eat at and food to put on this lovely table. These are tough times for many people and I certainly don’t want to take any of these things for granted.
I am so thankful for Little ToTM (who turns 2(!!!) tomorrow). Of course, right now he is singing songs in his room instead of napping, so tonight will be interesting, but when I’ve had a tough day, the coolest thing in the world is to walk in the back door and hear, ‘Mama, MaMA, MAMA!!!’. Love that little boy!
Also thankful for Mr. ToTM who stays at home with Little ToTM. It’s liberating for everyone!!
Thanks also for Pops and D of ToTM who made the long journey from the Tragic City to spend Thanksgiving, Little’s B’day and the Iron Bowl with us in the frozen tundra. I miss them so much and really wish we could be closer.
I’m thankful for another year and can’t wait for all of the new adventures!!!

Thank You
I need a cold shower and a copy of the Auburn Creed
Thanks, Jay
But I think you give me too much credit. Acid Reign and I both got called out of the stands at half time to come suit up for TET. It’s been a pleasure contributing here.

Credit to WEA.
…..You made it happen, man. WEA. emailed us and and set it all up. That’s why he’s where he is on the masthead.
……I’m of mixed feelings on Jay’s statement about me! Thanks, and uh… some of those emails probably ought to be buried deep at sea!
......Drowning in cool elixir.
I remember that day Greg.
And the credit is well deserved. I am thankful that you helped keep what Jay started alive.
Thanks Jay for another great Thanksgiving article. I always look forward to this one.
Have a great time at grandma’s house tomorrow!
