Changes Ahead for Auburn
From the start things never felt right. Not since the lowly days of the Doug Barfield era has a lead up to the Iron Bowl felt so hopeless. As ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit noted on air Saturday morning, there were few believers among the Auburn faithful.
Of course, it didn't take Danny Sheridan to tell Auburn fans what was ahead. The reality had set in weeks ago. Alabama's manhandling of Auburn was the most complete beating Auburn has taken at home in a generation.
Now Gene Chizik, a year removed from a national title, is faced with a major restructuring of his program. While the finger has been pointed squarely at defensive coordinator Ted Roof all season, more than 87,000 were pointed in Gus Malzahn's direction as time expired Saturday night.
Malzahn unquestionably slowed the offensive tempo down to help an ailing Auburn defense, but his play calling left fans wondering what he'd been doing all week leading up to the game. Vowing to throw the "kitchen sink" at Alabama, the Auburn offense looked eerily similar to - dare I say it - Tony Franklin's back in 2008.
More disturbing than Malzahn's on-field performance this year has been the lack of player development at key positions. After 12 games Auburn is no closer to finding a quarterback than it was back in August. A receiving corp that was thought to be a strength at the beginning of the season never gelled.
If the pundits are to be believed, Malzahn will likely take his trade to Chapel Hill, leaving a once dominating offense in shambles. The question now is whether Chizik takes his checkbook to Clemson and hires away Malzhan protégé Chad Morris or decides to go another direction with the offense.
The only issue left to be determined defensively is whether Ted Roof leaves now or after the bowl game. After surrendering more yards and points than any team in Auburn history, it's hard to imagine a scenario where he returns next year.
What will be remembered from Saturday's loss is not the talent gap between the two defenses, but rather the number of times Auburn was out of position on the field. Those mistakes clearly point to coaching.
What a strange year it has been. Few imagined this team putting together seven wins. Unfortunately, what will be remembered more is how Auburn lost. When your closest margin of defeat is 14 points and the other four losses were by 24 points or more, that's what people remember.
That's why heads will roll on the Auburn coaching staff.
If there was one positive to take away from the season, it was the determination of Auburn's young players. They never quit. They never gave up. This is an immensely talented group of players. There will be better days for these young men.
In the end, they deserved to be coached better.
Gene Chizik will now earn his money finding suitable replacements for some on his staff. That's life in the SEC. With high wages come high expectations. The foundation is in place. The talent is in place.
Auburn will be back.
Auburn will be back soon.

I had to do this myself... take a step back.
You can be completely negative and say that changes must come after a humiliating loss to your in-State rival. Anyone can do this. But then you start to look at what pundits said about AU before the beginning of the season. We were picked dead last.
There is good news: we didn’t finish last. We didn’t finish second to last. We were the middle of the heap. And that in and of itself is something to note. We could be Ole Miss. Next, you must consider that many pundits expected AU would be beaten like the 2008 game where we wouldn’t score a point. We did manage 14 points. That’s something too. We need to be grateful and show bama the respect they earned on Saturday. Truth is they could have beaten us by 90 points. And there was nothing Auburn could do about it. Humility is never easy.
Still. We knew this was coming based on our performance at Clemson. Arkansas. LSU. And the worst of them all… Georgia. We knew the other three were bad. But Georgia? If you can’t get up for the oldest rivalry in the South… here is a news flash: what makes you think you can get up for bama?? No amount of “nutting up” was going to close the distance on the lack of progress.
I am surprised on many levels about this coaching staff’s performance this season:
1) Its been poor from the start.
2) There has been zero improvement.
3) This staff is starting to remind me of the Tommy Tuberville era. And not the good stuff either. We are talking the Tony Franklin debacle. And Gene Chizik is starting to sound eerily like, you guessed it… Tommy Tuberville. And that isn’t good either.
4) And I have my own self to blame for this mistake: I made them out to be super human. News flash: this staff is very human.
5) I think folks figured out Gus (and Roof) and know that there was very little ability fielded… and took advantage of it.
I have said this from the start – I don’t look at placing blame on players. That could be my son out there. And folks need to pause and think about it when they start maligning one of these kids who are doing the best they can. Just remember – they aren’t paid money contrary to common belief about Auburn. The guys wearing the headsets are… and frankly I am not impressed with any of them. The honeymoon is over.
I will go one step further, while not calling for folks to be fired, I will say that these same people who won the National Championship a year ago… need to understand… have another season like this one… and they will be a footnote in AU history just like all the rest. You can’t whiff against teams like UGA and bama. It’s not good for your professional health.
Now the thing that concerns me is that after spending several seasons in building recruiting players to support a specific system – are we now going to walk away from it with the departure of Ted Roof or Gus Malzahn?? We have done this before… it wouldn’t be the first stupid move by folks in charge.
Gene Chizik has had the luxury of being able to blame the lack of performance on his young team. The fact that he had no leadership or bench to back up the ability of the coaches to run the systems being used. Well, change us now and you will pay the price. Not Tommy T. We are moving into year four of your tenure. This now belongs to you regardless of how you look at it. Blame it on anything you want… it won’t matter.
I want success for Auburn. But the funny thing that happens when it finally comes… we start getting bigger than our britches can hold. I am not sure that folks understand what a big salary does to a person. I personally think it conducts a lobotomy on their common sense.
Let us hope common sense returns to Auburn. Because if it doesn’t… change will indeed come to Auburn. And it will be sweeping change.
WDE
Bravo....well, said.
Chizik has some tough decisions to make.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
my thoughts on the game
and this is NOT taking a dig in anyway. Those 14 points PISSED ME OFF !
The first 7- sweet jesus should not have happened that second pump good GOD ! I mean I understand our O-Line is pretty good at protecting the pocket but DAMN how LONG does Mccarron need to realize he doesnt have a throw !. ARGHHHH
THEN that DAMNED PUNT RETURN ! KICK OUR KICKER !
Obviously I cant be too mad at the outcome. Though heres the thing… I am fine when another team earns the points but we sure as hell gift wrapped that first one to ya. Now that second one . … Tip of the hat to Mcalebb… fast little f*cker.
Auburn has a LONG way to go right now to be an elite team which is crazy seeing as how good they were on offense last year. I would definitely agree with the decision by many that Roof has to go, he just isnt getting it done and no amount of excuses can fix that. I mean hell I could come in and in four years time do just as bad by reading a defense for dummies book. Malzahn needs a QB that he can use for more than a year… end of sentence.
Chizik- Needs to step up and stop just being the face of the team but being the heart of the team too and punching those who arent doing what needs to be done ( i.e. Roof ) he just seems afraid to me to fire someone. That is not meant as a dig either.
The sad thing is no one expected Miss St to be so bad this year and everyone new Ole Miss would suck but hell Ole Miss took that to all new levels! So Auburn finishing where it did is sadly more a sign of suckier competition than it is you guys doing better than expected. At the same time before anyone attacks me… I do believe this is about exactly how many wins I figure Auburn would have this year although I figured there would be a flip of losses from SC and Georgia though. I will also say that these boys really dont have anywhere to go but up. They are not a good team ( lets be honest ) but at the same time if 7- 5 is your “bad team” thats looking pretty damned good I’d imagine … especially if you asked oh sayyyyy some Ole Miss fans.
RTR and I am ready for next year guys !

Future is now
I’ve seen it pointed out on other boards and I agree Chiz and staff should treat the bowl practice as early spring ball. Frazier should be given the vast majority of reps and given the reins for the bowl. Let’s find out exactly what he can do. If its apparent that he can’t get the job done bring in at least one more QB besides Pike.
Tell Roof to run his defense. I keep hearing that he and Chiz are not on the same page re: Philosophy Roof =more aggressive and Chizik=more read and react. Turn Roof loose for the bowl see if his approach is better.
Recruit, recruit, recruit. Let’s face it this bowl just doesn’t mean too much in the grand scheme of things. No opportunity can be lost recruiting vs. bowl prep.
That said I expect better things in 2012. Improved O line play, more RBs in the mix to keep Dyer fresh. A bigger, stronger front seven should add up more wins next year.

I agree
Playing a team 4 times in two years just doesn’t do it for me. Part of what I love about bowl games is seeing match ups that would not normally happen in the regular season. That being said, the Peach Bowl is going to pick the match up that will bring in the most cash so all other factors are moot unfortunately….
It looks to me that...
If Clemson wins the ACC against VaTech then they go to the BCS as ACC representatives. If they lose, Virginia, and FSU become much more attractive candidates for the Peach/Chic-fil-a Bowl vs probably Auburn.

When I think about coaching changes.....
….the first thing that comes to mind is can someone else that we would potentially bring in do a better job?
On defense I think the answer is an unequivocal yes. We certainly have the talent, although young, that can be the foundation of a potentially dominant defense. Just taking a look at the defensive line the first glaring thing that you see is a rotation of almost exclusively freshman and sophomores. In the SEC that is unheard of. Those guys typically need at least two years in the weight room to be physically mature enough to compete in the trenches week in and week out in this conference. While we certainly need some more size at the LB spots (we do have some bigger guys coming in), if your front 4 in the 4-3 is physically able to do what they are supposed to do, you can still be very successful with a more speed over size core of LB’s. I definitely like the progress that our secondary made this season both in talent added to the depth chart and the evolution of their technique from last season. Last year we could not get a DB to turn around and play the ball on man coverage at all. It started out that way again this season, but as the season progressed we were getting it together much more regularly. That is the key though. We need defensive coaches who are not only good recruiters, but great teachers as well. You can bring in all of the highly touted star HS athletes that you want, but if you can’t teach them the proper techniques to use on the field, you will never have a top level SEC defense.
Offensively, I have some serious reservations about philosophy. The one thing that I do not like is the fact that GM is clear that in running his style of offense that the defense will always suffer some lumps due to fatigue. My issue with this is that I do not like the idea of having one side of the ball have such a huge effect on the other. Basically you are saying that of the offense struggles, you have little chance of winning the game. In the SEC you need to be able to win a game with both units. There are days when it will be the defense and there will be days when it is the offense, but going ‘all in’ on a system on either side that can potentially doom the others effectiveness to hold there own is irresponsible at best as far as I am concerned. Yes you can be successful in a league like the PAC12, where defense is an afterthought on nearly every campus on the left coast, as Oregon has so demonstrated the past few years, but not in the SEC. It would take a super human QB to make that work as we well now from last season. I’m not saying that we should completely can the spread. Florida ran the spread for years and was still able to field a good to dominant defense for quite some time. It is doable. We just need to be on the same page as a team and make it happen. I think it is a forgone conclusion that Gus is headed to the Tar Heel state to take the UNC job, so Gene’s search for his replacement needs to start with someone who is on the same page with winning the day on both sides of the ball.
I have to wonder just how much a fast-paced offense affects that team's defense. OU has
run a super-fast-paced offense for years, and their defense, while not great, hasn’t been atrocious either (52nd this year, 53rd in 2010, 8th! in 2009…). And while there may be a correlation between lower defensive stats when teams go to a fast-paced offense (I’m thinking about Clemson & TAMU here since they run a similar offense to AU’s), that defensive drop-off seems to be more than compensated for by a huge gain in offense, which seems to equate to more wins (which at the end of the day is all that matters).
I also have to wonder how a change in offense would affect recruiting. Players seem to want to come play in Gus’ scheme, because it’s known for distributing the ball around to lots of players. Would we really be able to recruit, say, good WR’s if we went to a Bama style offense? I doubt it.
by TexasAUtiger on Nov 28, 2011 10:56 AM CST up reply actions
The offense scares the hell out of me.
It looks awful…..pathetic and impotent. As bad as the defense has been, I can see improvement here and there and with an infusion of depth at the LB position I can see that group getting better if our line can add some heft and strength.
What concerns me about the offense is that we should be able to compete. We have three upperclassmen on the line with a standout Frosh in Dismukes. Two of the best RBs in the SEC that are home run threats every time they touch the ball…we have two of the best receiving options in the conference in Blake and Lutzy…..and we didn’t even THREATEN to score offensively againt the Tide. We were shut down out side of the scripted plays against LSU and UGA and were plain sluggish and sloppy against Clemson and Arky.
And thats just the losses.
As much as Roof and Chizik have struggled on the defensive side, Malzahns slide into ineptitude is especially troubling because we should have the bullets to put up a fight even against even the best defenses. Yes the line has struggled mightily but I haven’t seen much of a gameplan to minimize our weakeness there and even more importantly it seems like the more our QBs play, the worse they get. That means they are confused about what to do and aren’t learning from their mistakes. Thats not good if you’re a LB….. but its deadly if you’re the QB. The QB handles the ball on every snap and if he isn’t comfortable running the offense, we are going to have incapacitating problems….which is what we have.
What concerns me the most is we feel tied to Malzahns system and it appears obvious to me we don’t have anyone to run it. So instead of adopting your offense to what we SHOULD be able to do, we keep trying to mash the square peg in the round hole. I don’t get that and never will. I know that means admitting your offensive philosophy is a failure ,but whats worse….. admitting you can’t make your offense work with the talent available??… . OR PROVING its a failure on a national stage where recruits get to see how ineffective it is against your biggest rivals. Boy Howdy….I know I’d swallow my pride REAL friggin quick if that was my choice. And if Malzahn can’t adapt his offensvie to suit his talent, he shouldn’t be an OC or Head Coach….at any level.
So to be clear….I’m not saying Malzahn needs to go, but he needs to take a LOOOONG look in the mirror and figure out how we are going to compete against the best in the SEC with the talent we have. If that means putting CJ Uzomah at QB and hoping he turns into Cam Jr so be it. OR maybe you put Trotter under center and run Dyer out of the I formation with Phillips or Fulse as a FB.
I want Malzahn to be successful and run and offense that is fun and exciting to watch…but I also want to beat our rivals…..I hope he gets things figured out….and soon.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
No offense succeeds without a competent QB..
.. and I’m not sure AU has one on the roster. Trotter and Moseley don’t have the IT factor. Frazier obviously has the talent. He needs his chance sooner rather than later.
Give Frazier all the practice reps and let him play the entire bowl game! What is there to lose?
Shouldn't Trotter or Mosely be competent by now??
Whos coaching them?…Malzahn….who not making them better?….Malzahn
These guys started off looking competent and devolved……I don’t know how you explain that away.
I do agree that now is Fraziers time….I thought so weeks ago when Trotter was struggling.
At the very worst he can run the ball, which at least takes the defenses ability to key on Dyer or McCallebb out of the strategy.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
It's funny... but I agree with you.
Chizik has a tough, tough decision ahead of him. What to do?
Can we improve with Gus Malzahn? I am not so sure. I hate to even utter this… but we looked like a high school football team during the last three losses. Vivid departure from the last two years. And that goes for EVERY postion coach underneath him.
On Defense, I wonder if we can improve with Ted Roof? Again, I am not so sure. We did get better as the year progressed… but still I saw the same ridiculous mistakes during the iron bowl as I saw against Utah State.
Some one told me the other day… “nut up”… nah, just kidding.
Let me start again. LOL. They told me that it is a tendancy for teams that struggle to still be able to recruit well. They pointed to the “i can make a difference effect”…. that could benefit us. However, one has to wonder… if they couldn’t do anything this year (I say this after epic beat downs with Clemson, Arkansas, LSU, UGA and bama) what makes us think they can turn it around next?
Converse to this conversation is the thought that extrapolates from what Coach Chizik stated: I will not let philosophy determine the selection I make at coordinator"…. really? So we have gone down this path with the spread or what is otherwise known as the "run first, misdirection, play action pass offense" OR “RFMPAPO” for short and now we are going to shift gears back to the power I? Really?
Now that the reality for some has set in Chizik must see the hand writing on the wall: make wise choices… execute violently and above all… look in charge.
I won’t necessarily be out for blood if he keeps what he has got (Roof and Malzahn). I just doubt that it happens because of UNC’s vacancy. Regardless – things could get out of hand very quickly. For instance… Malzahn’s wife has opened her trap more than she probably should. You would think if you were average looking and not extremely rich… that you would watch what you say. Apparently not. I guess my point is this… if things go south again… and Chizik says he won’t change (like Shula) or he will evaluate (like Tubs) without ever showing any results… I don’t see things going well for Gene Chizik.
For Auburn’s sake… I hope that is wrong!
WDE
Bama's defense made pretty much every offense they played look like a high school offense.
They held an Ark offense that averages 445 ypg, 6.51 ypp & 37 ppg to 226 yards, 3.83 ypp & 14 points. They also held MSU’s offense to less yards than AU’s, yet I don’t hear anyone claiming that Dan Mullen’s offense needs to be scrapped.
by TexasAUtiger on Nov 28, 2011 1:27 PM CST up reply actions
Why would we compare ourselves to others?
I thought we were talking about Auburn.
But now that you mention it, why would you expect anyone from MSU scream about Dan Mullens? They are glad that they kept him because the alternative would make the situation at Ole Miss look tame.
And I don’t think anyone felt that Arkansas was in the same league as bama or LSU. So why would we even mention them in the conversation? Maybe you didn’t see the conversation on the sidelines between Petrino and Miles this weekend??
In closing I will say that the definition of insanity: is doing the same thing you always did and expecting different results.
We must make changes at AU in order to compete in the future.

Not to sound like too much of a homer, but I don't really see any need for a coaching change.
Yes, this year has been bad as far as getting blown out, but scores aside, we actually exceeded expectations as far as wins, and those blowout losses were to the #1, #2, #8, #14 & #20 ranked teams in the nation, four of which were on the road. It was that brutal schedule coupled with possibly the most attrition by any team ever that had the experts picking us to finish last in the SEC-W, and to be lucky to win 5 games.
Also, there were glimmers of hope in the IB. If we pick up that 4th down (or better yet, get a decent spot on the 3rd down preceding it) who knows. We even held Bama on the next possession and forced a punt, but then the pick-six took all the wind out of the sails.
That game did show us a few things though. It showed that AU has a spectacular kicking game, with possibly the best kick-off man and best punter in the nation. We’re loaded with 4-star and above rated RB’s, linemen, DB’s, & LB’s. WR is a concern, but the talent’s there. QB is the biggest question mark, as I don’t think Moseley is the answer. Still, with all that talent maturing and getting bigger and stronger in the off-season, and with a schedule that brings most of the big games to JHS next year, I still think this coaching staff can lead us to another trip to Atlanta.
Agreed
I hold the coaching staff accountable for playing flat at UGA…Malzahn will leave…Roof will not even be asked to leave…Every OC has a chip on their shoulder and will never abandon their philosophy in mid season (they will never admit guilt, only offer excuses why the offense isn’t working – it’s in their DNA)…Mosely can pick up transfer papers in the front office (I’m only thinking about what’s best for him)…Trotter can backup Frazier who should take every snap from here on out…Chizik has big decision ahead about offensive philosophy…I thought we’d only win 4 games this year…we are fine, put down the pitch forks and we shall storm the castle another day…
When the QB can't make plays
It doesn’t matter what system you run. There were times when guys were open against Bama but Mosley couldn’t hit ’em. OL actually looked better than I expected. I think Grimes can get that unit to where it needs to be.
Frazier is/was an All World recruit. Its time for him to step up and be the man.

from a bama fan...
I agree. I would be more concerned about the offense If I were you. Your defense has lotsa talent (just young) and I think w/ teh right coordinator it’ll take off and be dominant within two years. The lack of the player development on offense and identity is tough. I still don’t know how much your offense success last year was Gus-brilliance or Gus-letting Cam be Cam. Obviously Gus and Chizick were smart enough to use Cam and his supporting cast well (ala Mack Brown w/ Vince Young in 2005) but this year Gus has been flat. It’d probably be better if he moved on.
One more thing to note: the first response is dead on. I think you have to weigh results w/ expectations. Every media douche predicted ya’ll to be on par w/ ole miss and maybe even not go bowling. You’ve surpassed those expectations and while there hasn’t been a complete game there has been those ‘flashes’ of potential. You have recruited as well as anybody in teh country the past 3 years and your future talent wise is bright.
anyway, just a partial outside observer. Next year bama and auburn will be a close close matchup.

As another Bama fan...
I agree. I know it doesn’t feel like it sometimes (I distinctly remember Dubose/Shula), you still did better than expected. The defense will be fine as they age, but I’m not a believer in the spread w/o a superhuman QB or a deadly passer. The future is bright for y’all though, and I fully expect to be battling for SEC West supremacy in the Iron Bowl within two years (though next year I’m not sure anyone will have anything for LSU).
Gus finally let Cam be Cam....
I’ve alwasy said the spread/LMAO offense is a gimmick to take advantage of mid level teams without overwhelming team speed and depth problems. Gus’ has yet to beat a top level SEC team, other than USC, without Cam Newton. It took Gus 3 games to trust Cam and let him do his thing….almost losing to MSU and Clemson in the process…..hardly the mark of a genius. If I was Malzahn and got ANY offer to be a head coach, I take it. If he has another down year in Auburn, he may not be able to recover to get a HC position. In fact he will have a hard time finding a program that can pay him what Auburn does, as it is.
If Frazier can develop into a decent passer then all bets are off. He has done well running the ball even when the defense knows he is going to run, so if he can make them respect the pass, Auburn will be very dangerous again, if Malzahn is behind the wheel or not.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
Jr. Varsity
The situation with the OL and DL was obvious for the last 3 years. Mostly Seniors last year, but we were ok with that because we were making our run for the MNC. How does a coach effectively build a line that is a mix of old and young without sacrificing performance? How can you account for players who declare early? I don’t know, but I can at least acknowledge the challenges our National Championship coaching staff is faced with. P.S. I would like to see Frazier for 20 plus snaps in the bowl game since he seems to be next in line. It will be a hard sell to give the job to a freshman next year.

How can anyone truly support Roof at this point?
The defense has drastically underachieved every season since he arrived. He coaches LBs and the LB core has been horrendous every year (except Bynes, who didn’t need coaching). Player techniques have been bad and most game schemes have been awful. Heck, the 2010 defense was super talented and senior laden, yet still played awful for half the season.
I’m all for staff continuity, but Roof is obviously not the answer for DC. Maybe his hands were tied by Chizik. Maybe he coached well and the players didn’t perform. Either way, the defense is broken and he can’t fix it.
NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME FOR A NEW DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR! The entire defense is young and needs a new motivation! Chizik should fire Roof today and he should coach the defense through the bowl game. This makes the statement to players that their lack of success is not acceptable. Chizik can have a new DC in early 2012 and start anew.
Uh...
The defense finished 74th in the country, the offense? 104th. That is why Ted Roof gets a pass this season.

You support a 104th ranked offense?
Not me, not in the SEC.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
The difference is guys...
and we’ve both over this a few times, 2009 saw Auburn put up some pretty solid numbers. No, they weren’t the best offense in the country, but the offense worked with Chris Todd running it. I don’t support 104th ranked offense which is why I say Malzahn should be on watch next season. Roof, should be gone now. Roof has been in the 60s and 70s his whole time at Auburn. Maybe it’s not his fault, I honestly have no clue what’s going on there. That said, three years of below average defense is unacceptable. If Auburn has a really bad offense again next season, get rid of Gus and the rest of ’em.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Exactly.
Roof’s defenses have been consistently bad. Malzahn has a successful track record and one bad year (when his QB play was horrible).
Everyone ripped Chris Todd in 09, but I’d take him in an instant over Trotter or Moseley. Malzahn’s offensive strategy requires strong QB play and we all know the level of play Auburn’s QBs displayed this year.
Who coaches the QB's?
The coach of the most important position on the team, gets a pass?
Thats very generous….it just means everything.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
I think you were Henry VIII in another lifetime!!
OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!
I can’t really argue the Roof situation because it clearly isn’t working, but you have to admit his isn’t working with the kind of talent that Gus has. When all you have to hang your hat on going into the year is Neiko, TBell and Eguae…..man have you got problems.
That being said Chizik needs to get someone in here that agrees with his philosophy and will let them be their own man. Nobody likes to have their boss micromanage them especially in public.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
Not giving Gus a pass...
I’m saying give him one more year. If the offense doesn’t get in the top 40 in the country, I say he needs to go somewhere else.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
C'mon, we knew this year would be rough
And if not for a couple of plays in the the first two, it would have been a disaster.
But I think Chizik has a handle on stuff, maybe Roof goes-wouldn’t be his first dismissal.
Tinker on the edges, look for more linemen on both sides of the ball-another QB would help also as Zeke is a question mark (so is Frazier.) Need more DB’s, more linebackers-life will be good.
We have as many offensive skill guys coming up to make that a feature- Excited about Mason, Quan, Trovon et al. Dyer might be gone after next year. Will be heading back up the hill with some new troops and some guys aging well.
Not time to panic. LSU or BAMa wins BCS they’ll lose some pieces to the NFL just off the euphoria of it all. We’ll be fine.
Haven’t had a chance to come over here since the game, so I wanted to say good luck to the Tigers in their bowl game. I definitely think ya’ll have most of the pieces in place to make a run next year. Might not mean much coming from a Bama fan though…Now, that’s over with….I hate your team…..lol
Yes, we have thirteen....
Thanks...
Classy and comical. We need to laugh right now.
It would have been a shame for Lutzie to get hurt. Glad they all made it through.

You guys that don't want Malzahn's offense next season...
It’s looking like he’ll be at Auburn again in 2012. So, let’s all hope that the offense hasn’t been figured out and that Gus’s system does still work. If it doesn’t, we’re not going to have a good year next year either. Guys, I also hope this isn’t true, but I keep seeing persistent rumors that Dyer will not be back for next year. I hope this is all wrong and conjecture, but I’ve been hearing that a lot from a few pretty reliable sources. When I get inside information, I always pass it along but these rumors may not have any truth to them at all either. It’s just something that keeps being brought up time and time again.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
What are your sources?
Where do you get the notion that Malzahn is staying?
I hope the rumors of Dyer to the NFL are bunk.

Isn't Dyer just a sophomore?
He can’t go pro unless he’s been out of high school for three years, right?
My understanding is...
…..He has to be 21 during the regular season before the draft.
......Drowning in cool elixir.
Oh ok...
It’d suck to see him go, especially since I feel like next year he will finally start getting some national recognition.
If he leaves it might be tantamount to Darvin Adam's decision to go.
I think that Dyer would benefit from one more year…but that’s just me.

RBs don't get better with age.
Pretty much all RBs stop being productive at 29, and there’s a limited number of hits a guy can take before his body simply gives out. Rare is the RB who turns down getting paid to get hit so that he can get hit for free.
I always assume that strong RBs will go as early as they can go. More than any other position, there is little benefit to staying and less learning curve getting to the pros.

I NEVER said he was going pro.
You guys are assuming too much. That won’t be why he wouldn’t play next season and it might only be conjecture what I’m hearing too. I’m not giving any sources away. I just figured I’d let y’all know what I’ve heard. There are some pretty reliable people out there that say Dyer may not be back next year-from what I can tell, it’s not a done deal as of yet.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
He is not eligible to go professional yet.
That will not be the reason why. It’s off the field issues is what I’m told. Again, it might be completely false I’m by no means saying it’s true. I just wanted to give out what rumors I’ve been hearing is all. I guess I’ll quit from now on doing that. I was trying to give some information was all.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Well....
I guess we took your intended meaning completely the wrong way.
If Dyer is looking to transfer out of Auburn, to another school(am I guessing correctly here?) then I say let him go. Hopefully it’s just youthful misjudgment on his part, and not some underlying problem. I sure want him to stay another year, become very successful, and then if he wants to go pro after that, good for him,

Actually, it's not about a possible transfer either. The rumor...
Is that he isn’t going to class and he might not be academically eligible. The passing word is that he has a bad attitude, a me first mentality, once the offense to run through him, and he doesn’t always go to class. Again, that might completely off base.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Didn't mean to imply the wrong thing...
I apologize on that one. Remember, I did say Trovon Reed was hurt this year pretty bad and I had good information with Ladarius Phillips last year before the season started. Unfortunately, it seems as though the bad news stuff is what I always get right :-( and I hate that. I also give the information that Gus Malzahn is probably gonna stay at Auburn. Let’s hope I get that positive feed correct. Sorry again KB, I really hope I didn’t offend you man. I think the world of you and I hope you know it.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
