Friday Ramblings

Auburn_castle_blanket_medium

Welcome friends of the Plains, and War Eagle!

What a great week we had, huh? The SEC Media Days event was a blast. South Carolina Coach Steve Spurrier was as outspoken as he has ever been, and Dan Mullen has not learned how to speak without creating enemies, and disrespect for him and his program.

Coach Petrino appeared very confident, and yet very uneasy during his time at the podium, and Coach Muschamp is fired up( no surprise there ) and ready to get started. Our Coach Chizik seem at ease, calm and deliberate. According to most of the beat writers that cover Auburn football, Gene's answers to national media questions were nearly exactly to theirs. He is consistent, that's for sure.

Nosa Eguae and his interviews went really smooth. He is a well spoken young man, especially for 19 years of age. When asked about the quality of the running backs in the SEC, and who he thought might be the best, he flatly stated, that he had "played against them all, and the one name he sees missing from the newspapers, and sports shows is Onterio McCalebb". What you do hear about Onterio is speed this, and speed that, which is true, but "this spring he ran between the tackles quite a bit", and was successful. Echoing what Coach Malzahn had said in an earlier interview, McCalebb has "gained some more weight, and not lost any of his speed. He'll need that to be an every down back in our league".

Eguae was also asked about replacing Nick Fairley, and he said "There will never be another Nick Fairley at Auburn. Just like there will never be another Tracy Rocker at Auburn. We just have to keep working to be the best we can be and get victories for Auburn University".

Philip Lutzenkirchen tackled the most asked question for the players, which was about losing so many players from last season. "We have used it for fuel, to drive our workouts this summer. We have heard it since January, that we are not going to be as good. I think we will surprise some people this year".

Elsewhere in the not news worthy department, a former Alabama graduate and current bookie Danny Sheridan, broke a huge news story on the Paul Finebaum show about a "bag man" the NCAA has interviewed in the Cam Newton case. Apparently he lied, and was backtracking out his statements before the end of the show. I know I'm shocked that someone would lie about the investigation surrounding the Cam Newton recruitment, aren't you?

Here is someone you can believe...

love your recap!

These young men did a wonderful job! I appreciate CGC’s demeanor and calm – what an example he was yesterday! Kudos to Sheridan and Finebaum. Their attempt to control questions and perception before CGC’s time at the podium was a masterful use of Finebaum’s REC show. Real classy move as usual. So looking forward to this season! war Eagle to heck and back!

Chizik and the guys acquited themselves very well.

As to Finebaum, he proves over and over his bias and his down in the gutter type of journalism.

Yeah, and it's called "yellow journalism."

Auburn's not being attacked!!....Quit whining Auburn babies!!....sarcasm alert.

Well we might as well put away the tackling dummies and pack up the headsets, because we are doomed……according to our friends in the media. First off, we are going to have the worst season of any reigning champion in the history of college football and then….at some point….our championship will be stripped and we’ll be given the death penalty for being the most foul, rancid and corrupt program in the history of sports.

Well, Poo. I was so looking forward to the season.

As to be expected, the jackals in the media , acted like starving wolves and jumped at the chance to report anything slanderous about Auburn. That, and they delighted in disparaging Coach Chizik at every turn. But I can’t blame them too much, since our rival fan bases eat this tripe up like it’s creme brulee. I saw several stories yesterday on how boring Chizik was. Which begs the question, if he was so boring why are you writing an article about him? That alone would mean he is interesting and people are interested in what he has to say. Right? Did they expect, Chizik to have a Mike Gundy “I’M A MAN!!” meltdown?? Did they expect for him come with a mea culpa on Cam Newton? Did they expect him to say “Man, we are just going to suck this year!!”. He didn’t, so they called him dull as dishwater and an instant cure for insomnia. Just pathetic, but good for Coach Chizik for not feeding the animals. So since Chizik didn’t implode they had to dish out more unsubstanitiated accusations, rumors and innuendo to get digested as fact. Haven’t we gone down this road nine or ten times now?

There’s a story on the NCAA investigating the suits that Cam got for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, interviewing the haberdasher that sold the suits, allegedly at a huge discount. This story might actually have some legs, but then again if the retailor sells the suits at as discount and thats an illegal benefit, does that mean that all NCAA athletes have to pay full retail for everything they buy?? Does a discount have to be advertised, to be allowed? Of course the discount is an assumption on the part of the media, I haven’t heard anything about what the suits (allegedly worth up to $4K) cost and how much the Newtons paid for them. And if Cecil buys the suits at a discount and gives them to Cam, as most parents will do for their college age children, is that a violation?? And if the NCAA is investigatying this type of stuff, how do they ever finish an investigation…..just wondering.

The Danny Sheridan story is hysterical….I mean this guy wasn’t even Jimmy The Greek, when there was a Jimmy The Greek. He used to be a somewhat notable gambling prognosticator back in the ’70’s and ’80’s. But yesterday was the first I had heard of him in at least two decades. Nice to see that Finebaum will dive headfirst into the “I’m trying to stay somehat relevant” pool, to spread some more Auburn rumors and lies. As if the NCAA would sit on that kind of info….Please. But of course Sheridan’s a Turd Alum and trying to help the cause, so he fed a nice big fat rabbit to the jackals, who obligingly swallowed it whole. The really distubing part that is being glossed over of course, is that Danny Sheridan…..a person who makes his living trying to sell gambling advice and services….supposedly has loads of longtime friends and contacts at the NCAA offices. Ruh, Roh!!. The pristine NCAA has officials consorting with a known gambling prognosticator Uhhh, I thought that amatuer sports and gambling was a no-no.
Talk about your appearance of impropriety. Now THAT is a story.

But as with all that is Finebaum, Sheridan is most likely making that up too to back up his story. Again, pathetic, just like the rest of the goings on at the Best Little Whorehouse in Birmingham.

Well he WAS on Finebaum.....

so lying is kind of expected. The bigger the Whopper the better. Hold the mayo.

You have Sheridan as a bigger longshot as a lying MF than I do....

just sayin.

Also note that by the time he finished sayin this he started backtracking...

and then by yesterday he had changed his story from “friends in the know in the NCAA” to “friend who has friends in the know in the NCAA” which by this morning has probably degraded to “friend of a friend who has a landscaping buddy who has a brother in law who has a cousin who’s mail man………”

C'mon Todd don't be a denier!!

Thats what makes us Auburn fans so paranoid! We have to come to grips with the fact that all these tall tales are evidence that something is INDEED going on at Auburn, since you know “where there’s smoke, there’s fire!!” Even if it is smoke from one of those Fireworks snakes, that just stinks and is a total waste of money.

It's been my experience that where there's smoke.....

there’s usually some guy or girl smoking something and in this case it’s mostly bammers.

Nice job, Col!

…..My understanding is that it’s perfectly legal for a school to buy a player a suit for a postseason award appearance. Buckelew has been an Auburn Network sponsor for years. And giving the school a discount is no violation. Of course, let’s not let facts get in the way.

So Chizik skook hands with the scumbag later in the hallway.

Chizik has class. I don’t know if I could have shaken the guy’s hand.

I actually am enjoying the desperation with which the mud is being slung now..

Each lame attempt get more ridiculous than the last. Everybody “KNOOOOWWWS” were guilty and yet they just can’t find anyone to back them up….other than some other ham and egger that believes the same thing. Its a joke. But the longer this goes on the more those that make the accusations will look like jokes.

I will admit I tire of hearing the snide comments about my championship swag but Its also a reminder every other day that “WE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!”, so its not that bad. I just ask them to refresh my memory as to which of the accusations were true….that usually sends them away mumbling..

I agree with everything you guys are saying

and you say it a heck of alot better than I do. I just have to say how proud I am to have Coach Chizik as our coach. He rises above all of this stuff and does it with class and dignity. He is representing Auburn well. I do not give a crap about what anybody else has to say. If I had boys and they had any chance of playing football I want be thrilled to have them play for Chizik. Too bad he cant coach girls basketball and volleyball.

I need a cold shower and a copy of the Auburn Creed
