Everybody get your hands up for Bodda Getta!
Ready?!
I can hardly contain my excitement for the 2011 edition of the Auburn Tigers. It is unique from any other year for me, in that Auburn is going to have a lot of talent on the field, a lot more than in recent seasons' past. 2010 was AUsome for obvious reasons, but now we've all got to turn our attention to 2011 and beyond.
I am looking forward to seeing a lot of raw talent on our defense absolutely get after it week in and week out. Ted Roof will be working with a lot less experience on this side of the ball, but I love the athletic ability we'll be running out on the field. I am looking to Chris Davis to really make in impact this season as a tight covering corner. I thought he did an exceptional job last season as a true freshman. Angelo Blackson is another name I think we'll hear more than expected. Kid has got athletic ability for days. Of course there's also (as I like to call him) the Martian Manhunter, Craig Sanders. I'll use Clubber Lane as inspiration for my prediction of Sanders' season, "PAIN". Lots of it, for people not wearing the orange and blue of our Tigers.
The offense also has me psyched. Mike Dyer and O-Mac will get a lions share of the carries, but watch out for LaDarious Phillips out of Roanoke High School. Phillips will be like a dump truck with a foot ball in the cab. That kid is a train wreck waiting to happen on the football field, and much like Sanders on defense he'll be 'winning' most of his collisions. Short yardage back? Check.
As for the quarterback that is a gray area. I've heard that Moseley(sp) would start. I've heard that Trotter would start. Even heard rumblings of Favre being in town for a work out or two (jk, relax). Seriously, I think we'll be ok no matter who starts. Everyone kind of knows going in what our deal will be this year with the signal caller. We're pseudo re-building and we're replacing a once in a generation player so it comes with the territory. I look for Keihl Frazier to make an early impact by stepping into the role of the wildcat QB and having that role slowly expand over the course of the season. They (the coaches) want that kid to learn, and that's just what he'll do this year by playing a limited to moderate role in our offense. Maybe more depending on how he picks it up. Don't forget he ran a similar system to Malzahn's while in high school.
The receiving core is a bit thin this time around. I think we are in good hands with Emory Blake, but after I am sketchy on info. Will Demond Washington be a prime target? How will Trovon Reed perform in his first season of full action? Maybe you guys can chime in with who you think will step up big time for us this season catching the football.
Special teams will be better coverage wise this year I think, but there will be growing pains with Cody Parkey. He;s got some big shoes to fill in Wes Byrum. But you know what? We all thought the same about Byrum, and Vaughn, and I can't remember who was before him. But we always find a way to get a guy who can respond well to pressure situations. I have faith that the coaches have put us in a good position with Parkey.
Coming off a NC win, Auburn will have a bulls eye with them all season long. Everyone wants to knock off the defending champs so the road will be treacherous, but trial by fire will only make this extremely talented young group of men that much better. I can't wait.
So that's all I've got. I am super pumped. We've got some amazing talent to look forward to for 2011 and years to come. Rumored new pants stripes and maybe some blue pants this year. Crazy talk, I know. Whatever it is that your looking forward to this year, share it here. Let's move past all of the 'Debbie-Downer' talk and start getting amped for the best sport in America in the best conference in America!
War Damn Eagle, people! Here's to 2011!

Great write up...
Receivers – Q. Carr, DeAngelo Benton, Travante Stallworth, Jaylon Denson, Sammie Coates, plus Lutzie, Quan Bray, CJ Uzomah, and a host of other athletes.
I am looking forward to a running game that steamrolls past the defenses, and burning their @$$ thru the air too!

Ummm...
Demond Washington was a senior last season and in the secondary.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Felt like I had a brain fart in there somewhere.
You just sniffed it out. The brain fart that is. Way to go.

Sorry to bust you on that...
You still did a good job though man. It just was glowing you know me I never miss an opportunity. Trovon Reed is somebody I’m looking at being huge for AU. I look at him like another Prothro.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Haha.
Something didn’t feel right. But I have not spent one iota of time thinking of our receiving core this off season. From Cam-Gate to the current QB scenario I’ve been distracted.

I can't believe you didn't do your research???!!!
Sounds like you’re ready for a job with the Times or ESPN!! Fact checking is for nerds!
Col.Angus may be rough, Col.Angus may not smell like a bed of roses, but deep down Col.Angus is very sweet. If I overstay my welcome, just tap me on the head!!
They're in big trouble!!
You can’t replace your starting QB and Heismand Trophy winner, your best defensive player and most of both parts of your line and expect to compete in the SEC, do you???
Well if you’re Alabama….sure you can, in fact you’ll probably be ranked #1 or #2 in most polls. If you’re Auburn, brace yourself for a losing season.
What a load of crap!! Alabama faces the same challenges we do and yet they are the favorite to win the SEC. Um, I think Barrett Trotter looked a lot crisper than AJ McCarron in their limited playing time….or at least Barret didn’t get spanked.
Yeah, I think we will be fine. We won’t have the experience that some other teams will have but SOMETIMES that can be a good thing. Most of our guys only know what it takes to win….and thats the most important experience to have.
Col.Angus may be rough, Col.Angus may not smell like a bed of roses, but deep down Col.Angus is very sweet. If I overstay my welcome, just tap me on the head!!
Touche Col. Touche.
I love the thought of seriously talented players running out there and gettin’ after it and wearing their man down across the ball from them.

I can't agree here...
Bama is returning 9 defensive starters and 4 starters on the o-line. Now, I’m not saying this guarantees us to win the SEC, but every team in the conference has question marks, and I think our defense will give us a good shot. As for the QB situation, I would take Trotter over McCarron as well, simply b/c McCarron strikes me as the kind of QB who would freelance too much and make costly mistakes.
I fully anticipate AU to surprise plenty of people this year; you have too much talent to lose too many games.
The Tide will be a force for sure....
I just cackle at the fact that Alabama has plenty of questions to answer themselves….according to Saban himself……and yet the media continues to gush over the Tide as if their coronation as SEC Champs is a fete accompli. Personally I think LSU SHOULD be the favorite based on returning players but that doesn’t always mean they’ll be better. Thats the Les Miles factor at work. Alabama gets the nod, because of Saban, and he has earned that respect, but I think Chizik has proven he can coach a little too. He turned around a crew that wasn’t expected to contend for anything (picked to finish 4th or worse last year), and won a National Championship. Cam Newton was a huge part of that but Chizik and his staff got this team to gel and believe in themselves and execute. Chizik may not be a scintiallating interview but he’s a hell of a coach and leader.
The bottom line is the memebers of the media are lazy and always go with the frontrunner and what they know….which usually isn’t much. Thats why the sprtswriters have been wrong about the eventual SEC champion 80% of the time since they started playing the SEC championship game.
Col.Angus may be rough, Col.Angus may not smell like a bed of roses, but deep down Col.Angus is very sweet. If I overstay my welcome, just tap me on the head!!
That's true...
I’ve always had the opinion that there shouldn’t even be preseason polls, but I know that will never fly. You won’t get any argument from me about LSU being right there either; they are certainly worthy of being considered for the SEC title. As it stands now, however, there are 12 teams tied for first in the conference.
Man, your POV is so refreshing.
I don’t want to talk to an Alabama fan that thinks their team stinks. But, I run into too many that have already anointed themselves king of the hill. SO ANNOYING.
I just want to talk football not drama. Alabama has plenty of questions this year, but they’ve got a lot of positives too. If they get the QB situation figured out sooner rather than later that would be the way to go, but I have not heard which way the coaches are leaning, if at all.
Love your attitude Tyler, come over to talk football anytime. Bama’s going to be strong this year. Let’s do our part as fans to make sure we’ve got a couple of highly ranked squads in the Iron Bowl for 2011.

On the QB situation...
for better or worse, Saban seems pretty set on having a 2-QB system for at least the first couple of games…
That's pretty much uncharted territory for Saban isn't it?
It will be interesting to see how that pans out.
War Eagle
Jonno could probably recall....
I thought Saban used the 2 QB situation at LSU.

Matt Mauck, wow.
Thanks for digging that up KoolBell! I was so young then. I had just really gotten into AU football and college football.

Good write up....
enjoyed the read and as if I’m not already fired up enough!
I don't troll so I reserve the right to berate trolls as I see fit.
Just so you know I won't forget.....LSU Jonno predicted we would finish 5th in the west in '11.
Agreed - WDE!

Weegle, Weegle!
……I’m fired up, too! My biggest concerns are defensive tackle, wide receivers besides Blake, and fielding punts. On A-Day, the tackles got pushed around, the corners had their way with the outside guys, and Carr kept on dropping punts. We MUST fix those things in fall camp!
......Drowning in cool elixir.
Is it just me.....
I have never seen a spring game, fill me with confidence. Remember how BAAAAD Cam looked? It could be that the players are taking a heavier load of classes than they do in the fall.
I agree that DT is a concern but I do think Carter and Whitaker will do a fine job. The key is getting them some production when they rest. Hopefully Gabe Wright is the real deal, we will need him to step up. Travis, Walsh and Lykes certainly have the bulk to contribute but they have little experience for being lettermen.
WR’s I think take care of themselves…too much talent there for somebody not to step up.
PR and KR, takes a special breed of cat and again, someone just needs to step up there. Like you, I’m not sold on Carr. I’m hoping that Reeds jumps into role.
Col.Angus may be rough, Col.Angus may not smell like a bed of roses, but deep down Col.Angus is very sweet. If I overstay my welcome, just tap me on the head!!
I don't take a lot from spring games.
I try to see guys’ speed or athleticism. Maybe judge the QB’s arm, but not much else you can take away. It’s so hard to know why certain guys struggle in the spring game. They could be getting put in bad positions over and over by the coaches to test them.

Absolutely great post WarEagle86
I don’t know how I missed this one earlier but you did a great job. Makes me ready to get back to Jordan-Hare.
We’re young but I agree with you that …
‘trial by fire will only make this extremely talented young group of men that much better. I can’t wait.
