GAME WEEEEEEK!

Is it saturday yet? I’m excited to see these young guys get after it. These are all the hot recruits we’ve been hauling the last two years. I have high expectations for these guys. I’m calling for 9 wins or more. I’d accept 8, but 7 or fewer is a failure in my book. even against this schedule. We may not win the west, but we shouldn’t be marked as a “W” on anyone’s schedule. 7 ranked opponents and most all should still be when we face them save UGA who I think tumbles right off the bat. Hope they don’t, but I’m thinking LSU and UGA drop the ball the first week and give the talking heads all the ammo they need for SEC bashing this year. Everyone is tired of us being on top…except SEC fans. If this team can just get thru those first 5 games in good shape and give those young guys time to mature then watch out (please don’t point out ‘09 to me!). MSU at home will be IMO tougher than clemson on the road. Don’t know…just gut feeling. War Eagle and see you saturday.

There are...

….some offensive surprises in there. Defense is pretty much what we figured. McCalebb has evidently supplanted Dyer at the top guy at tailback! Our third receiver is evidently Travante Stallworth, not Trovon Reed or DeAngelo Benton. A. J. Greene isn’t starting, and true freshman Reese Dismukes is the guy at center.

I should also add...

…..that Andy Bitter over at the Columbus Ledger is better than a pay site. That paper has been committed to a great Auburn blog for some years, now, and Bitter does a fantastic job.

I think OMac listed as starter

is more due to what the script is for the first series. Gus will try to strike quick at the opponents weakness and evidently that will be the edge in this one. Dyer will start some this year and I doubt he has a problem with it. Of course if everyone makes a big deal about it then he may get sensitive to the issue though he doesn’t strike me as that kind of guy.

maybe I'm reading this wrong, but

it looks to me like stallworth is the #2 and QCarr is the slot. Look at the backups. Carrs backups are the cat quick slot type receivers and stallworths are 6’3"behemoths. seems like they’d be better suited on the edge though I guess they’d be good over the middle too. Either way I’m excited. I hope carr does well, but I think by midseason, if not sooner, reed takes his job.

If I've learned anything about Malzhan...

…..it’s that he loves the mismatch. You’ll see those tall, fast guys in the slot, why? Cause Gus is gonna have ’em run to the sideline like a screen, then cut upfield. With a linebacker or safety in man to man. We saw that done time and time again with Emory Blake last year.

On McCalebb being listed above Dyer...

I don’t really read much into that… It’s kind of like ‘Bama listing two starters at QB, a 1-A and 1-B type deal. I anticipate y’all to use them in much the same way as last year.

McCalebb and Dyer

Are on both on the field most of the time. Could just be a formality. Both guys are gonna have great seasons, no matter who the “starter” is.

I’m excited to see the receiver group. A lot of unproven potential, but this group could break out with all the athletes being paired with Blake.

Any man in a blue jersey...

…and an “AU” on his helmet is a “starter” as far as I am concerned. And I bet our coaches have drilled that point of view into these young men—including Moseley. If all those young men take that point of view “all in” to themselves and make it part of themselves, there ain’t no stoppin’ us!

Proud of Chad Slade

I have been saying for a while he had what it takes, and he seems to have earned the coaches’ trust. That is nothing against AJ Greene, but for Slade to come in, take advantage of opportunity, and get the start as a redshirt freshman when he was way underrated by rivals and under offered by other schools, that is something to commend. Now he just needs to show the fans what he has apparently shown the coaches.

I think the McCalleb starting over Dyer could very well be more a result of the nagging injury that Dyer has had...

during fall camp and the fact that they my want to limit the number of hits he takes this first week.

Just so you know I won't forget.....LSU Jonno predicted we would finish 5th in the west in '11.

I tend to agree with you on that one...

I think Dyer is banged up right now and they’re trying to let him ease through the season to get him at 100%. I just can’t wait until we see Tre Mason.

It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.

If AU gets up early you will see alot of Tre Mason and Anthony (Gulley) Morgan.....
