Onterio McCalebb Will Be Back For 2012
More good news from the Plains, junior running back Onterio McCalebb has decided against submitting his name for the NFL draft and will be back for his senior year.
Coach Chizik's said he was ... "excited to have Onterio returning for his senior season. He is really focused on having a great senior year and providing leadership for our team this coming season."
McCalebb said,
"I talked to a lot of people and it was a hard decision, but I love Coach Chizik and our coaches like they are my father, and I love my teammates.
I'm looking forward to coming back for my senior season to make myself a better player and to help my teammates win football games for Auburn and the Auburn family."
The junior running back was Second Team All-SEC and the offensive MVP of the Chik-fil-a Bowl. He scored seven touchdowns this year and is ninth on Auburn's All Time All-Purpose Yards list with 3,341.
This announcement along with Phillip Lutzenkirchen's decission on Sunday to return is certainly good news for Auburn fans. All we need to hear now is that the Tigers number one receiver Emory Blake will definitely be back as well.

This was a no brainer
McCalebb had little chance of getting drafted. I can’t see him as more than a kick return specialist in the NFL. He does have the chance to be a big part of the offense at Auburn next year though.
Get your degree Onterio, you will probably need it.
Hopefully, Emory Blake’s ankle problems this year were a blessing in disguise for Auburn and he sticks around. He’s got NFL smarts and hands now, but needs another year to grow physically.
really ???
He reminds me of darren sproles a bit … he just has to learn how to cut up the middle better

Sproles?
Come on now. Speed is the only similarity, like angus said.
MCalebb has a niche running on the edge and returning kicks, thats about it. I’d like to think he could develop tackle breaking ability and elusiveness, but its just not part of his game. At his point, he would be broken in half after a few NFL practices.
concur
Sproles>Bush>Omac
Alabama fans, ask yourself this question: Is this who you want representing your University and your fanbase?

He made the right call...
….coming back for a senior season. You never know. Auburn’s had a number of “little speed guy” running backs over the years. Ones I felt at the time you could blow over with a feather duster. A lot of ’em had pretty good NFL careers eventually.
……Joe Cribbs and James Brooks were pretty small. Played in multiple Pro Bowls. Lionel James was smaller than McCalebb is, and he was an all – pro, and I think led the NFL in receptions in 1985. One of my favorite Auburn players never really even made it to second team tailback, Harold Morrow. He was 190 pounds soaking wet his senior year. But he turned in a 10-year career in the NFL.
…..McCalebb has the want-to to do it, too. He needs the right coaching, and the right system. Glad he came back. Should have a great senior season!
......Drowning in cool elixir.
Smart move Omac
One more year of development, you will be ready for the NFL. Darvin Adams made a big mistake last year leaving early for the NFL. Plus, it’s cool to stay for your senior year, hey, Andrew Luck did.
season's done and i JUST noticed something
have we been wearing those bizarre shoes all year?
Grrr! Get out of our house, Under Armour!

Smart move by OMac
If he is going to have a future in the NFL, he has to learn to take a hit and break a tackle.. The only thing he has in common with Sproles is speed. OMac hasn’t demonstrated much elusiveness and little to no cutting ability once he has established momentum where he is running. At this point I would have to agree that he would have to be a kick return specialist. He is going to be able to exhibit some toughness if he wants to get carries or be a third down back
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
