Tigers Win 11th Game in Double OT Against Ole Miss
"There were a lot of different things working against us," said Auburn Head Coach Tony Barbee. "We weren't making shots. We were turning the ball over... My guys could have easily folded up the tent with all that adversity around them."
But the Tigers didn't fold their tents defeating the Ole Miss Rebels in a double overtime thriller 69 -68 in the Auburn Arena today.
The victory gave Auburn's it's11th win this year, matching the team's win total for the entire 2010 season
Auburn (11-6, 1-2) led the game 55 - 46 with 2:07 to go but the Rebels starting making 3-pointers and tied it up 57 -57 to force the game into overtime.
The first overtime ended tied at 65. In the second overtime Center Rob Chubb, who had been in foul trouble all afternoon, fouled out just seconds into the period.
Then Guard Frankie Sullivan's took over making two clutch foul shots to put the Tigers ahead 67-65 with about 4 minutes left. With 2 minutes and 54 seconds, Chris Denson hit two free throws to give Auburn a 69-66 lead.
Ole Miss's Reginald Buckner made a dunk with 34 seconds remaining to make it a one point game at 69-68. Then Jarvis Summers' stole the ball, went to make the game winning shot only to have it blocked by Kenny Gabriel with six seconds to go. Rebel Terrence Henry missed a tip-in and Frankie Sullivan got the rebound to seal the deal for the Orange and Blue.
It was the Tigers' first double overtime win in 21 years when Auburn defeated Georgia in 1991 in Athens 59-58.
Auburn shot 66% in free throws, going 18- 9 from the foul line. Chris Denson had 16 points for the game. Kenny Gabriel added 11 points, with 13 rebounds and four blocks; a career best. But you really have to be proud for Frankie Sullivan who for the last six games had been averaging only 5.7 points and came through with 19 - all after the first half. He also had four steels, four assist, and the game winning rebound.
Barbee said he was proud of all of his Tigers for the way they scraped and didn't give up ...
"That is part of the growing up process. With all that adversity, you still have to find a way to tough it out and still win by doing it together - and that is what we did."

Any news on OC...
One of those Auburn pay me I have the inside scoop said they had a list of who was interested and who has interviewed etc. I can’t stand those sites, especially when they slip a tease out there like that, poop our get off the pot. The only people that really care are AU people anyway and we are a patient bunch, we will get the word eventually, no way in hell I’m going to pay for something I will know shortly anyway.
Oh by the way, great win BB tigers, looks like they found the right hustle switch. Go Tigers, I ’m looking forward to an improved BB year.
We all here the same rumors ...
Names like Kerwin Bell Head Coach @ Jacksonville State, Scott Loeffler OC @ Temple, and former Jaguars’ OC Dirk Koetter have been prominent in the rumor mill. But if the VanGorder hire is any indication, it could be someone that has not been mentioned.

I watched much of the game..
….and the entire second half. Yep, it was one of those freezing Saturdays when you just give up on finishing your chores outside! I went in, fired up the stove, and cooked vegetable soup and a few other things. The best feature in my kitchen is a little 22 inch hi-def flatscreen…
……Honestly, the last ten minutes of regulation were agonizing. Auburn had a 12 point lead, and Barbee was directing ‘em to run the shot clock down each possession. Tigers would work 15 seconds or so, then one player or another just couldn’t stand it. They’d drive into the crowded paint area, and dribble the ball away on a turnover. Or they’d launch up an awkward 3-point air ball. Or draw a foul and miss free throws. Arrrrgh!
…..With ten minutes to go, Ole Miss looked like the biggest collection of brick-layers I’d ever seen. The reason Auburn led was because Ole Miss couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean. Then the Ole Miss freshman Jarvis Summers got hot. He showered in 3 pointers. He drove the lane, either laying it in easily, or drawing questionable fouls. Auburn played for the last shot with the game tied, then fumbled the ball away with about 5 seconds left. Luckily for the Tigers, Summers came out with the ball. Summers had his freshman moment, and failed to call timeout.
……First thing of note that happened in OT was that Rob Chubb fouled out. I considered changing the channel. Auburn had no chance, now, right? Adrian Forbes stepped up big time in the paint. Auburn scrapped, fought, and made plays. Frankie Sullivan found his touch in the second OT, and Ole Miss went back to clanking ’em off the iron. Tigers won!
......Drowning in cool elixir.
Your right ...
Both teams shot awful. But Ole Miss was the worse of the two, I think with 36% from the floor. Auburn not much better at 37.9%. Turnovers about the same with Auburn getting 20 to Ole Miss’ 18. But it was still a thrilling win and an SEC one at that. I bet the Soup was great!
