Dyer Released from Scholarship by AU
Auburnundercover.com and ESPN are announcing that an anonymous source has said that Auburn has released Michael Dyer from his scholarship. Where he ends up is anybody's guess, but I know which school I'd bet on. More to come with this developing story.

Good luck, Mike.
Thank you for this.

It may have been a little lucky, but I have never been happier as a fan than I was with what transpired after that play.

I was in Glendale
and I thank you Michael Dyer. I also thank the entire 2010 AU team for that championship.
Looking at things from a 30,000 foot level; this situation looks so weird for outsiders. I’ve had several friends who are fans of other SEC schools saying, “What the h*ll is going on?”
In its totality, it does look very weird. MVP of the NC game; breaks Bo’s freshman record; rushes for over 2K yds in first two years; our most consistent (best?) offensive player in 2011. Then puff, he is gone?
Something is really fishy.
I'm thinking
the “undisclosed team rule violation” will be leaked within a week. Then we’ll know.

It sort of has been
He was caught smoking pot and failed a team administered drug test. That warranted a 1 game suspension, but he was pissed the team would hold him out of the bowl game. At least that’s what the rumor mill has been.
probably something more than just smoking pot
It’s probably wrong to speculate on my part, but so what if you’re caught smoking pot? It’s not the kind of thing that gets a player of this caliber booted. Maybe if he was selling, I could see it. Get caught smoking it, and it’s like, sorry coach, I won’t do it again. Unless he had some big attitude about it, in which case, let him take that attitude elsewhere. I think it has to be more serious than just getting high. I repeat, this is just speculation on my part.
I don’t think that it has to do with caliber of player. Chizik is fair. If it was just smoking pot and a failed drug test, he sits out a couple of games and gets back in the game…..Yeah, it’s probs Kristi Malzahn’s fault….

last year he was all about it.
punk move. we proved last year with the cam situation if you stick with us we will stick with you. if u aint with if u gotta go. they didnt include dyer in the highilght video at the bowl game, and i dont think he should be played on any highlights of the 2010 season.yes the run was special but he was supposed to the next great AU back.obviously those things meant nothing to him.
time 4 omac an mason to step up(ala bowl game)
let lutz pound the rock too. lets get physicall guys who want to be an auburn man and wont accept 45-10,45-7,42-14

This news is getting older than a dried out zombie... and goes to show that AU fans are clamering for info.
Of any kind. I guess our program right now is sort of like the CIA…. only we can keep a secret.
I wish Chizik would clear the air… if Mike did something… he needs to be held accountable. If he isn’t good enough to wear an AU uniform… the public should know why.
But I am over it. I agree (and have rec’d) lakeshow24. I feel the same way.
I want men at AU. Not kids. I want productive people who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
Mike obviously had a change in attitude.
I wish him the best. But the obvious is that he isn’t as physical as Brandon Jacobs…. so I doubt we ever hear about him again.
What a waste.
WDE
Jacobs' situation is totally different.
…..He was in good standing with the Auburn football program, but they wanted him to move to defensive end. Jacobs’ dream was to be a running back, and he transferred so he could keep toting the rock.
…..Seeing as how Jacobs is now the number one all time Giants touchdown scorer, I’d say he made the right move. And he’s headed back to the playoffs again this year, trying to secure a second super bowl ring.
......Drowning in cool elixir.
Good luck to you Mike Dyer...
I will not judge you nor speculate on what you might have done. I will say thank you for your hard work and dedication. Thank you Mike Dyer for being the most valuable player in the national championship game; a game that featured Auburn getting its first one in over fifty years. I don’t know what you did or what happened. I do know that it was truly fun to watch you play and you were the first 5 star recruit for Coach Chizik. People forget that he also helped bring in many of the top rated athletes in his recruiting class. He worked hard and helped bring in a top three class that year. Not to be forgotten, Mike Dyer had heart and he was hell to bring down. I remember one play in particular where he took about four defenders with him and kept pushing until he got the first down. The national championship was another play that showed his determination and how he didn’t just quit on a play even when it seemed like everything was over.
So to you Mike Dyer, the Auburn family will not give up on you either. It is obvious you have made a mistake or two but we will never forget your contributions to Auburn and we hope you succeed greatly with Coach Malzahn at Arkansas State. We hate to see you leave but it is what must happen now. Take care and God bless. Mike Dyer was the first Auburn running back to have 1000 yard seasons in his freshman and sophomore year.

but time goes forward
Deon Bush (DB, Miami, 4****) is expected to declare that it’s great to be an Auburn Tiger at the Army Bowl on Saturday. Certainly this will lead to other commitments, including Kwon Alexander.
and PLEASE don’t give up on Michael Flint!

the guy could of had his painting on the side of jordan hare one day. that very concept it why he was recruiting other guys. family all in.
now he’s stanley mcclover, tyrik rollins, tray blackmon. all world talent that didnt understand what auburn truely meant.
im glad 2 see chizik wont stand for it though.you know why dyer wasnt a problem last year? leadership leadership leadership. if ya aint all in then your all out.
Still wonderin' what happened...
All the “pot” rumors aside, iI suspect maybe he was heading toward academic non-qual.
As someone alluded to before, Dyer was on pace for “legend” status at AU. The kind you get statues and streets named after you. Very unfortunate.
And, any news that makes the Bammers smile is not good news.
I've heard
It was cocaine. I hope its not true honestly as I would hate to see ANYONE let alone such a talent get dragged into that. Tnhat however would make more sense as to why Chizik was so beyond pissed about it. If it was true then I could see Chizik doing all he did to drive the point of the descent into nothingness home, showing Dyer how everything would look in his life on his current path.
Every time a player snorts cocaine.....
a demon gets his wings!!
I hope that isn’t true about Dyer but now I’m starting to have my doubts. I know that he grew up in VERY unfortuanate circumstances, that make his accomplishments all that more amazing, but there is a point where you have stop giving him the unconditional acceptance he is craving and let him know that self destructive behavior is just that….destructive. I know Chizik and staff have done what they could to him steer him in the right direction but once a guy that is going to be an unquestioned leader on the field starts to turn into a cancer, the cancer must be removed before it begins to matastasize.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.

Guys...
Auburn is getting owned in recruiting right now. I’m not just making things up either. Bush is going to Miami, at one point he was said to be a silent commit for Auburn. Ward chose OLE MISS over us too. Will Latu is no longer committed to Auburn either. I know, trust Chizik he knows what he’s doing. I ain’t buying it. Not one damn second am I buying it. The lack of coordinators is being used against us and Coach Chizik has to know that. Coach Chizik, I sincerely hope you bring in big time people because this amount of time you’ve taken to choose the coordinators is costing us recruits.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Sure its costing us recruits, but.....
let me ask you, do you want to make the wrong hire??? It won’t matter what recruits we have if we bring in some loser that we settled on out of desperation. Like TOTM says….NUT UP! The right coaches will turn what we get into winners, the wrong will turn great recruits into malcontents.
The delay in hiring coordinators doesn’t say anything other than Chizik hasn’t found the right guys yet. Why is that hard to buy? You REALLY don’t think Chizik…. a man who took a 5-7 team over that was careening into obscurity and fielded a respectable coaching staff and a winning season in his first year……a man who guided Auburn through unimaginable turmoil last year, and kept this school from impoding…..a man who led a team with 6 returning scholly senriors to an 8 win season…. a man who doesn’t let any information out for public knowledge that he doesn’t want let out…..doesn’t know what he’s doing? If he doesn’t he sure has me fooled. What I can guarantee you is that Chizik does not think short term, everythig he does is to build long term. Getting rid of Dyer is a short tem pain, long term gain that proves he is 100% commited to maintaining discipline and building young men with character.
If he doesn’t find the right coordinators, then Chizik will be the one that pays the price. But the man has earned my trust in what he has accomplished on the plains and moaning and groaning about it isn’t going to change anything.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.

Thanks, Col. Angus!
For sticking up for Coach Chiz. It’s about time someone has. Has everyone forgotten what we were doing last year at this time?!? Winning our first NC in 53 years….oh yeah. Besides, it’s a little like banging your head against a wall to fret over the decisions a 17 year old will make a month from now. I think the situation will be well in hand at that point. AU fans- Give Gene some respect he deserves- we definitely need the right coaches in place and I am proud that our program is a responsible one, with character, and not looking for short-term success- but instead a strong foundation. Right...
Guys come on, it’s not Chizik doesn’t make over a million dollars a year. My words mean nothing and Chizik could give two squirts of piss how I feel about his coordinator search. He doesn’t NEED anybody to defend him. I am not saying he is a terrible coach. I never said that. I am saying this wasn’t his plan and that he was not prepared for this to happen. I don’t think he expected recruits to jump ship like they have the last couple of weeks. Make no mistake, Bama beat writers work hard to create a weak perception at Auburn. Here’s my point: how did it take this long to come up with Kerwin Bell? He’s none the guy since college, it’s not like he wasn’t on the radar from the beginning. If they end up hiring the guy, why didn’t Auburn go ahead and do that so that we didn’t lose the big time recruits? To me, that makes no sense whatsoever. If he’s been there the whole time and he’s been the plan, why not make the hire already and keep the recruits? It just doesn’t make much sense.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
You got it!
I can’t imagine that Coach Chizik is JUST NOW trying to make up his mind … certainly he planned ahead at about mid-season when he knew both coordinators would be gone.
by Triumphant Tiger on Jan 7, 2012 10:01 PM CST up reply actions
Not so fast my friend
Bammer has no OC and they seem to be doing pretty damn well recruiting offensive players. Ditto for Florida.
The sheer fact that we don’t have coordinators is not the sole reason we are having a down time recruiting. Could it be we have such a young, talented team coming back next season that the recruits feel they might sit for multiple years behind someone? I think that is just as much of a reason as anything.
Now that the statue/altar/shrine is up, is it in Sabans contract that he gets to take it with him when he leaves?
Exactly
We need to be recruiting to NEED, not stars.
TJ Yeldon would be nice to have, but not something we need.
Devon Bush would be nice but we have several youngs CBs, that are freshmen or sophomores.
We need a tough blocking fullback, we need a hard hitting safety to back up Florence. We need some big bodies on the interior Defensive front to spell, Wright, Whitaker, Blackmon and Carter. We need to a couple of quality Offensive Tackle prospects. The skill positions are fine, we need the Hogmollies that wear down the opposition.
Just pull up our roster online, its virtually all Freshmand and Sophomores. Anybody coming in this year, will be sitting for 2-3 years unless they can start right away, and those guys are few and far between because of the physical develpolment most kids need to do to play in the SEC.
Yes, we look poor in comparison to LSU, UGA and Bama, but those teams rake talent regardless of who our coach is. every year, year in and year out. We need to coach up our players and outscheme them on gameday with superior effort in the film room and the field of play. We are NEVER going to be a school that gets the best players every year. It is rare that a non-state school is even competiting for the top talent like we are. I give that credit to coach Chizik and University establishment that are committed to having the best facilities and maintaing a family environment on campus that few of our rivals can match. Its a winning philosophy for college that will keep us competitive. Its adding that extra bit work that will get us back to where we want to be.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
I completely disagree...
Auburn can pull in a top five recruiting class every single year. Do we have to work harder? Yes, we do. That, however, doesn’t mean we can’t get get top five athletes around the country anyway. I don’t see how we expect to win when we’ve got the number 16 recruiting class in that nation. In the SEC West, that flat out won’t get it done.
One of the things I love about Chizik, he isn’t afraid to go after the nation’s four and five stars. He has given notice to Miles and Saban and Richt that he will work just as hard as any of them. Not only will he give the same effort, but he will love his players more than any of them too. Chizik also won’t put up with crap even from his best player like Mike Dyer. We are Auburn and we can get big time players because we are Auburn. Coach Chizik has proven that since he came to Auburn back in December of 2008.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Bammer has a friend in high places!
there is NO WAY that Mark Emmert will investigate Alabama as long as his pal Saban is there, and that explains the recruiting success … Look how our Tiger Prowl bus was outlawed after only one day on the road!

Echoing many comments above.
I’d rather Chiz take the time to get the right coordinators in place. I don’t think that he cowtow’s to a bunch of jumpy 17 year-olds just to make them feel better. What are we into now, warm and fuzzies?? NO! We want a productive offense. We want a hard nose, make ’em drop it, Defense! Build it and they will come!!!
Auburn Undercover is reporting that Kerwin Bell is in the ‘lead’ for OC. Let’s try not to meltdown or freak out…..

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding.
He may or may not be the guy….but I am of the opinion, you get somebody that isn’t all that well known and isn’t interested in protecting “his system”. Get me someone that wants to prove himself by doing some new and innovative things. Pay for what he’s going to do, not what he has done.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
Bell reminds me a lot...
…..of Bobby Petrino, scheme-wise. No, he doesn’t have the beady eyes. But he does play to what his players can actually do. You’re gonna run the toss sweep, and the five yard hitch very well. Make the opponent defend both. Then things branch out in other areas, when a team is stretched out over the field on basic plays.
......Drowning in cool elixir.
I hope you don’t mind, but I quoted your comment in the ‘Coordinator Search Thread’….its the first statement that I’ve seen that kinda gets me excited about the guy. I LOVED Petrino’s schemes…..didn’t like his character or shifty eyes…..

Loeffler...
I expect Loeffler in the end myself. Personally, I’d like Koetter or Clay Helton. I find neither one of these as big names so you guys can keep the damn “I don’t care about a big name” speech. I honestly do think he’s just now starting on it. Hell, he came out and said he wasn’t going to work on it during the Bowl game preparation. Yeah, he said he had a plan. Kerwin Bell was his plan? Okay, I am not going to meltdown I’ll just say after Tubberville, hiring a friend always scares me. Plenty of people are sticking up for Gene Chizik, I don’t see where you guys are getting he needs to be defended. In fact, he is more heavily defended than any coach out there these days from what I can see. I think he has botched this coordinator search personally. I know you guys disagree and that’s fine, but you’re not going to change my mind.
I’ll be the first one to admit I was wrong if the offense does very well. I will be extremely happy with Koetter or Helton. I certainly do not want Bell. I think he’s the worst choice out of the last four. Auburn had such a chance to get somebody like Phillip Montgomery. That was the kind of person that Auburn could have gotten instead of Kerwin Bell whom nobody knows how he will do as an SEC offensive coordinator. Damn, we don’t know how he’d do as big time college program offensive coordinator. Yes, he has a great record so far. I have said on more than one occasion that he will be great one day. The problem is, I don’t want him learning to be great on Auburn’s watch. I want somebody great already.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
