Let's Talk AU Hoops
Hey everybody ... I've only seen the basketball team once on TV - Auburn vs. UTEP. I thought the defense looked better than last year; but on the other side ... something has happened, apparently. I wasn't expecting an upset in Nashville today but 35 points just isn't enough, by golly!
I like almost everything we've seen so far out of Tony B (except that he really, really needs to upgrade the schedule next year).
He's definitely not the sugar-coating type, and that's good. But some of his comments recently ("I'm not enjoying coaching this team," or "This is the most undisciplined team I've ever seen") have got me perplexed. Does anyone know something I don't?
(It was my understanding that he got that stupid AAU-player ban lifted upon arrival)

All I know is...
We are still not very good. Vandy beat us down today following a trip to the wood shed vs. FSU. We have no strong inside presence and, unless Frankie gets hot, no shooters to speak of. I hope we can get it together soon . I am tired of our basketball team being the whipping boy in the SEC. Other than a miracle run thanks to marquis daniels we haven’t seen a team that we could enjoy watching since Doc Robinson, Chris Porter, and Bryant Smith. I think some of the powers that be need to relax a little and let Coach B do his thing.
I attended...
….last year’s Vandy-Auburn game in the new arena. Auburn fought hard, but just when they’d pull even…
…..BANG! another Vandy 3-point bomb from a perimeter player too tall for an Auburn guard to defend. Vandy returned nearly everybody this season, and is a lot of folks’ pick to win the SEC this year.
…..Meanwhile, Auburn has regressed in several areas, including defensive intensity, and foul line shooting. Will be a long year….
......Drowning in cool elixir.
I thought Barbee was a good hire,
and I still do. I kind of expected about a three year turn around. I don’t like getting blown out every week, but if that is part of the growing pain, then I can live with it. However, I am getting a little frustrated with Barbee blaming everybody else every week for a loss. The first time or two this season, I figured his rants were aimed at motivating players. After yesterday, I am starting to feel like he’s only trying to motivate himself. The kind of stuff he is saying to the media is the kind of stuff you say in the locker room behind closed doors. Maybe I’m being harsh; just doesn’t sound too good to me.

Foul shooting
What is it with foul shooting at AU? All my life we have had trouble with that at AU, no matter who the coach, I used to think it was Beard Eves, but now I am beginning to think someone put a curse on our foul shooting, anybody here anything about some vo doo or something? Maybe we made a deal with the devil to win NCs for Poor foul shooting, Tubs seemed to know we were going to win a NC maybe knows something, LOL
You guys...
Barbee is 10-5. Yeah it was a cupcake schedule. That said, Auburn would not have been 10-5 under Lebo with the same schedule. He has taken more responsibility already than Lebo did his entire coaching stint at Auburn. Plus, Barbee is building a foundation. Lebo left him with absolutely NOTHING. If you guys are wanting to get rid of Barbee, who in the hell is going to be better?!? He’s one of the best coaches around just give him time. We’re actually winning the cupcake schedule and winning it big. Recruiting is also much much better than it was under Lebo.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
I didn't say anything about getting rid of him,
I just think he could handle himself a little better in a press conference.

I like what Frankie Sullivan had to say after Saturday's game:
" … when your back’s against the wall you’re either going to lie down or fight. I’m pretty sure we’re going to fight to the end. If we don’t pick it up, we’re going to get embarrassed every night. That’s not something the guys in the locker room or our coaching staff will allow to happen."
That attitude plus consistent play is what it’s gonna take to have a competitive season.

"The reason you come to Auburn is because of Auburn people. This is a special place, from the coaches all the way to the fans" - Andrew McCain OT
Ouch.
After watching the Hawaii tourney and the Vandy game yesterday, ouch!
You guys amaze me...
Most of you will blindly defend Chizik about anything. With Barbee, you’re already questioning him. Where’s this whole trust the coaches mentality thing? Why don’t you give Barbee half the love you give Chizik all right???
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
i'm not ?uestioning tony b, trust me!
i had to work tonight and missed the sugar bowl, so i’m just now learning of the SIGNATURE! that’s all i wanted to know.
The only beef i’ve had is this year’s schedule strength; and i think tony b knows he must upgrade that next year for us to improve. But he’s saying all the right things; i think he cares a lot :)
War Eagle! Excited about BVG (actually my mother called me at work today with the good news) and looking forward to an outstanding OC hire!

Coach Barbee Invitational: CBI
Thats as good as it gets. He can recruit n win the easy games. Time after time when we (UTEP) were the more talented n favorite he would choke. Come on we have one senior one junior n the rest freshmen. AU should of beat us in Hawaii but just plainly got outcoached. Thank you for getting him out of our hands Floyd is so much better.
