E-signing, it's the new wave....
This will be the way it's done, when the school systems can afford to.Times are changing slowly because of the increased financial burden placed on public schools. The NCAA is actually trying to keep pace with today's fast changing technology. In a story about the first ever electronic signature on a National Latter of Intent (NLI).
She's the test case for former National Letter of Intent director Eugene Byrd, who says the recruit will become the first college athlete to sign the NLI electronically.
The story is HERE.
My take....
I look for Auburn to finish strong today, with maybe a 5* recruit, and 3 or 4, 4* recruits, giving their pledge to play for the Tigers.
I also am looking for that surprise recruit that most never heard of. One of those like Tunde Fariyike, that nobody had on their radar, that will end up starting one day and be a major contributor. I just feel it, it's going to happen.
Jon Solomon describes what hurts the Tigers the most in past recruiting classes.
The missing signees are spread out among positions. They include six offensive linemen, four wide receivers, four defensive backs, three linebackers, three running backs and three defensive linemen.
Give Gene Chizik credit for even handed justice. A violation of team rules is not an area to be trifled with. No matter if you are the best RB on the team, or someone that just signed your NLI. The rules are there for all to see. So are the examples of what happens when you think the rules do not apply to you.
Just how many recruits Auburn signs this class is hard to know in advance. My guess is that we sign 20 to 23, and use whatever we need to fill up again next year. Statistics show, that with new coordinators, you will lose some players from your current roster. How many, will be key going forward.
As always your comments are most welcome as we await word from Auburn Athletics about the new team members.

Good morning..following secretly at work..go get em Tigers
We have three NLI's in already
They are Joshua Holsey, Ricky Parks, and Jonathan Jones
Come and join me at http://trackemtigers.com
Thats two defensive backs
and a highly rated Tight End in Parks.
Come and join me at http://trackemtigers.com
I stole this from HABOTN
Thanks a lot Jay G. Tate…
TE Ricky Parks, 6-4, 235, Hogansville, Ga./Callaway H.S.
The oddest thing with Parks is that everyone wanted him as a tight end, which is a position he hasn’t played in two years. His high-school team needed Parks at quarterback – an assignment he graciously accepted. Prior to that, Parks was known as "Sticky Ricky" for his ability to catch any ball thrown in his vicinity. Parks is a big and muscular kid — he won’t be physically overmatched — but his footwork will be a work in progress. Parks considered offers from Alabama and Georgia before committing to the Tigers shortly after Big Cat Weekend. His allegiance never wavered. Parks is a consensus four-star prospect.
CB Jonathan Jones, 5-8, 170, Carrollton, Ga./Carrollton H.S.
Jones has the skills of a five-star defensive back, but he’s a consensus three-star guy because of his height. Jones is a little guy. He’s thin and short and, frankly, doesn’t look the least bit intimidating. Jones is extremely fast and quick. He hits hard, which is surprising giving his diminutive stature. Jones reminds me of a young Jerraud Powers, who is on the small side for a cornerback yet carved out a lucrative career in the NFL. Jones has refined skills to go with his outstanding speed, so he has a chance to surprise. He earned an Auburn offer after a July camp, accepted it a few weeks later and never entertained any other offers.
CB Joshua Holsey, 5-9, 175, Fairburn, Ga./Creekside H.S.
Holsey, like future classmate Jonathan Jones, is a very skilled prospect who lacks notable size. As it stands, he’s a consensus four-star guy who played in the Under Armour All-American game. What sticks out about Holsey is his quickness off the ball and a refined ability to play the ball in phase. He’ll need a bit more size to emerge as a valuable run-support element, but Holsey isn’t scared of contact. He’s another guy who could be a special-teams star this fall. Holsey had offers from every SEC school, but never wavered after committing in May.

He was a good one and he ALMOST DID CHOOSE AUBURN.

Really wanted Goldman
The good thing though, when I look at guys like SenDerrick Marks, Nick Fairly, Josh Chapman, and Terrence Cody, all of those DL were not that highly rated when they started college. I think it is a position you can develop.
Plus we are loaded with talent and youth at that position
He would have to have beat out three guys with game experience at Auburn. Which would have been nearly impossible for him.
Don’t get me wrong, I would have been tickled to have him choose AU, but I didn’t expect it.

They were nowhere to be found when Kwon tore up his knee. Chizik called him at the hospital to check on him and one of our assistants went out there to see him from what I understand.

There was one set of coaches calling him directly after he tore his ACL...
If chooses LSU even then he needs to go as he has no loyalty to the guys that were after him the longest. Nobody has been recruiting Kwon Alexander harder for longer than Auburn. We are geographically much closer to home, we need the help a lot more and we have been with him for about three years now.

Good question especially with Jovon Robinson...
We could really use Jovon Robinson as he fits a big back need. Robinson is coming to Auburn I believe. I’d be shocked if he didn’t go to Auburn honestly. Hell, I’d make some kind of bet with somebody that he’s going. McKinzy worries me-Clemson really got into his head and good ole Dabbo will do anything to hurt Auburn.

Its strange considering how many LBer recruits we have committed
But bottom line is that 2 or 3 of those LBer recruits are definite projects. We only have 2 starters locked in for next year. I think you are looking at us having at least 2 true freshman in the 2 deep at LBer next year with an outside shot at starting a true freshman. Davis or Kwon are the most likely to grab those spots with Davis possible running to Texas at the last minute anyway.

Weird interview with J. Winston on espn.
He’s calling other recruits (Darby, etc) to get them to FSU, but he isn’t signing with them today. He might be the most well-spoken kid interviewed so far though.
Hopefully he is reconsidering after his buddies have decided to go elsewhere
We have lost every single toss up today so far. I was hoping we'd pull some of them out.

Glad that my hopes for a 4th QB were fulfilled.
I wonder how much Loeffler pushed for another QB. They might have been happy with three QBs if one entrenched as the starter.
Personal note
I know JW and the Wallace family personally. This is a great pick up for Auburn. Good athlete, but a great person and family. We’ll never have to worry about off the field issues here. Great addition to the Auburn family.
Well folks..
….it’s been an interesting morning. Unless we get a couple of the huge late signers, this is a class similar to what Tommy Tuberville signed most years. Tuberville usually filled up the allotment of 25, but there were always a half dozen who had little chance to actually get into school. Chizik’s signees have done better, there. And it’s a class with a good average star rating, not one loaded with a couple of 4-5 stars, and loads of 1s and 2s.
…..I’ll be back around midnight to try to figure out what it all means going forward, and who’s likely to contribute right off the bat. Meanwhile, it’s off to work! And remember, folks, even we had completely struck out today, the program’s in pretty good shape with what we had committed before this week.

Neither site shows him as having visited AU. I wonder where KB got his info…
i agree with finebaum for the 1st time...ever.
chizik should have promoted from within vs. going outside and taking way too long to pick up an OC. critical mistake, IMHO,… critical mistake.
still, the Auburm family is a hard working family and we get our great homefield lean schedule back this year.
you do it and you wipe it up.
I have been saying that a long time...
We should’ve bumped Luper or Taylor to OC then brought in Dameyune Craig as the quarterbacks coach and wham we’ve got a beautiful signing cast this year. I’m excited about this class, but I’m certainly disappointed too. This is the year that is supposed to benefit from the national championship so much. That just didn’t happen and I too think he made a critical mistake.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
I've been thinking luper or Taylor for a long while also...big mistake.
you do it and you wipe it up.
me too...
Gene Chizik has recovered his first class with a save from the Tubbs start, and brought in two top 5 classes, that now are full of SEC game experience. This year he puts that icing on the cke with another potential top 10 class.
Blessed to have Gene as our coach.

We need to finish with a flourish...
and we need to punk out the PAC12 since USC has been in our back yard all day! Since no one else in the SEC has done it… let’s take some of their talent! Get Shittu!
There is some talent still out there. We need some more and we will be over the hump.
I’d be the first to admit that I was EXTREMELY worried in how this year has gone. We didn’t do well against our rivals. We lost our Coordinators. it took a long time to replace them. And while we had a decent base to build on in recruiting because of the unknowns surrounding the program (particularly our OC situation) it cost us. We took some hits. But today, AU has battled back. We didn’t have a top 5 finish. But I hope we can close with a top 10.
AU is close to getting over the hump and into the elite programs. We are better than most. But because of our proximity to bama and LSU I think we are often overlooked. Maintaining a top 10 performance in recruiting will send a clear signal to EVERYONE in the SEC and the country that AU isn’t a team that messes around.
Are we blessed to have Coach Chizik? Yes.
But I bet if you asked him, he would say that street runs both ways.

grasping at straws much? You just look me up and let me know when that starts biting us – or maybe it bit us last year when we had a bad year and still finished in the top five…..but then again, understanding what it is like to be #1 in something without having cheated to get there is not something an auburn “man” can be expected to understand….
Presser is now over..
What I got from it is, that Auburn will be happy to carry over any remaining schollys not filled, and count back early enrollees in next years class if need be.
Chizik is happy where we are right now, and I believe he would be happier if we were to get one or two more quality guys. He won’t waste offers, or take chances on guys that are marginal

Chizik seemed PO'd and emotional spent...
… he knows Auburn got whipped from the signing day publicity-hype standpoint.
- This class obviously didn’t make the bang he hoped. The bar was set pretty high after the last few years. Auburn has signed a solid class nonetheless.
- Chiz was sure to point out (twice) that he hopes to sign a couple more recruits still out there…
He was reserved... that was obvious
I agree with KB that we look and do a more thorough inspection before we “buy” – pardon the pun. But I still think if that kid Shittu was available and could make grades… and play next fall, I think AU would take him in a heart beat. Why? We need defensive linemen. (I think).
I have to keep in mind that Chizik is still a young coach. He has discipline… but he still finding his way on pinache. I think he is learning that image is everything. Especially when you are dealing with the prima donnas up the road. Heck, it’s all they understand.

We did well but could've done better
Not by Alabama…we got destroyed when we went head to head with FSU. They damn near beat us every single time. We got some good ones, but the Seminoles owned us this year. There is no way you can say any different. Is it a good class? Yes most certainly. That said, it could have most certainly been better. It could have been much better. Can you imagine Darby and Goldman with this class too? That would’ve been big time. Here’s hoping we shock the world and get Diggs.

I’m only saying that this is not as good as it should be for Auburn. These guys set the bar that high you know? I expect a top five class every year now and I will again this year. I just see 2012 as a fluke that won’t happen again in the Chizik era. You know, you could always think that I’m actually being really positive myself. I’m saying that this class was a fluke on it being out of the top ten and that Chizik won’t let that happen again. That does mean I’m not being completely negative I just wanted more recruits. Yes, we did much better than the media spewed but that’s always the case and it will remain that way.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.

TOTM...
We never agree on anything just about right? That’s what makes us keep things interesting. I’m not saying we didn’t do well today. I’ve said we did well. I just think it could’ve been better that’s all. Plus, Darby and Goldman going to FSU really hurt. Both of those kids are straight ball players that will be difference makers from their freshman year. FSU may have had more playing time to offer them I’m not sure. Either way, I look for 2013 to be much, much better. Because if it’s not, then I think there is a reason to hit the panic button. Everything is looking like Auburn will do well next year in recruiting. Now to those of you who are not Auburn followers and say we say that every year, I DO NOT. Nobody would accuse me of being too optimistic but I honestly think we get at least top five. I’m expecting at least one major recruiting site to pick Auburn as the National Recruiting Champion.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
I am probably the only one here that agrees with you Spark.
AU (or more specifically Trooper Taylor) promised today to be like Christmas morning. Well, I will say this – it wasn’t a christmas morning at my house. I too was disappointed at the slow start.
But AU rallied late. We did ok. We got some good kids who are safe bets. I think we will be ok.
I still think AU pulls 1 or 2 more. And I bet they come from somewhere else… who are unsigned. But I do agree with KB too… I don’t think he will take an unncessary risk either. He will save the schollys if they are questionable. But if he pulls the trigger… AU will be in the top 10.
WDE
It appears there was no VanGorder effect...
as predicted by so many.
- All top uncommitted defensive recruits went elsewhere. I can’t really blame them after watching Auburn’s D the past few years.
- Having a solid defense next year could make next years defensive recruiting class much different.
I truly believe that it will.
Even more so, you must consider the prospect of the Safeties coach from the Falcons coming to Auburn. If we get him too, you can bet that Auburn will pick up more of the top defensive prospects in the country than anybody else in the country. I firmly believe that. We will really benefit from a top 10 defense. There was no time for Brian Van Gorder to really build relationships with recruits. Next year will tell the tale. Oh, and keep in mind Bama will witness Kirby Smart going somewhere to be a head coach. In addition, Sal Sunseri is gonna be recruiting against them with Tennessee using some of those same connections. Plus, the gray shirting thing was not very positive for them. They racked up this year. Do not be surprised to see Auburn finish higher in recruiting than UA and LSU by several recruiting sites for our 2013 class. We’ll benefit from the home field advantage this year. It’s going to make a difference I do believe.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.

-D. Neal will wait at least a week to decide, visiting nearby U. of Ariz this weekend. Auburn was not mentioned in his top 5 list.
-S. Diggs announces Feb. 10. Auburn is considered in his top 4 (Auburn, FSU (not again!), Florida, Ohio St.).
-J. Diamond announces this Friday. Auburn was not mentioned is his top 4.
