Jordan Diamond No. 1 Player in Illinois Signs With Auburn
Auburn's 2012 recruiting class got a big boost Friday as reported by KoolBell earlier here at Track Em Tigers. Jordan Diamond, a Parade All-American and five-star offensive lineman from Chicago signed to play for the Tigers
Diamond is 6-foot-6, 300 lbs. and is ranked by 24/7 Sports as the fifth-best offensive tackle in the nation. He is the sixth offensive lineman and the 21st member of Auburn's 2012 class.
Scout.com gave the following profile on Jordan:
"Diamond has a nice frame with long arms and a solid base in his legs. He's a naturally strong kid who drives defenders down field and does a nice job finishing his blocks. He has experience in pass protection and does a nice job of using his arm length and locking out on pass rushers."
Jordan had offers from over 20 of the top programs in the country including Notre Dame and Ohio State. He recently narrowed his list down to Auburn, Arkansas, Wisconsin, and Michigan. After his visit to the Plains, he reportedly said he was drawn to Auburn's family atmosphere and that he had a lot of respect for Line Coach, Jeff Grimes.
Coach Chizik had said in published reports that signing a good class of linemen was a top priority. Well that mission has been accomplished. According to Scout.com, Diamond's signing gives Auburn the second best offensive line recruiting class in the country.
Auburn is still in the picture with at least two other top prospects in five-star receiver Stefon Diggs of Olney, Maryland and four star O-Lineman Alex Kozan of Castle Rock, Colorado. Diggs is scheduled to make his announcement next Friday.
Stay tuned, the Tigers final class count may yet grow some more.

Ok everybody on Auburns staff......start taking notes from Jeff Grimes
Dude is raking!! Whatever deficiencies there are to this class, it sure isn’t on the O-line.
We may not have an A grade defensive front seven but there is no doubt that we should have a size, strength and depth on the offensive line for years to come. We’ll need it if we expect to combat those defensive gorillas from East Vance
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
Actually..Flamethrower... I hope

Impressive video
In the first few plays, that “high school team” ran some impressive stunts/blocking schemes. Diamond is quick, and agile to say the least. Welcome to the family Mr. Diamond.

KB my thoughts exactly on Jordan's quickness.
The thing that shocked me the most was how agile he was considering he was the biggest player in the video by far. When he was asked to pull and lead downfield on a backer he always got to his block ahead of the RB.
Acid’s comparison to Marcus McNeil is spot on. Not only should there be great competition on the o-line for the next several years but our d-line will need to step it up against these guys everyday in practice.
Veni vidi vici 22-19
Is there a chance an OL might be switched to DL....maybe.
Now that the statue/altar/shrine is up, is it in Sabans contract that he gets to take it with him when he leaves?
I would have to think not...
Interesting thought, though think about this. If your defensive front continually practices against the best offensive front, won’t they get much better?
This influx of O line talent, when added to the current linemen already at Auburn will lead to improved QB play, ie more time to make decisions, and bigger and better running lanes for our RB’s

One other thing to consider...
Auburn now has 17 D linemen on the roster. Only three are seniors, Jamar Travis, Joel Bonomolo, and Dee Ford who was doing real good last season, until his injury.
There are only 5 Juniors, But they should be much improved, and quite a bit stronger.

Agree on the practice thought
Hmmmm, 17 D linemen. wonder if we have a D lineman who could step back and stand up. Heaven knows we need help at LB. Frost needs to play up to his potential quick.
Personally, I think we might see several position switches next Spring on both sides of the ball.
Now that the statue/altar/shrine is up, is it in Sabans contract that he gets to take it with him when he leaves?
Who?
Who do you think is a possibility? Is Owens a DE that could be moved to LB? Your thoughts?
More of a question for Acid. He knows the personell better than anyone.
Owens maybe, we have some pretty dang quick DE’s. I bet almost any of them could stand up and be effective.
Now that the statue/altar/shrine is up, is it in Sabans contract that he gets to take it with him when he leaves?
In my opinion....
I think Sanders and Owens both have the speed and the tougness to play the Mike. I think both are a bit undersized at DE and that is an area where we have depth. We have none at LB, if we ge any injuries it will force Mitchell and McKenzie to play a lot of meaningful minutes and Mitchell is not developed enough physicallly to do that. .

Good points. I am not sure if our DE personell is better than our LB personell
Since we are flush at DE, moving either Sanders or Owens a step back would be a prudent move.
Paging Acid for your thougts.

DE personelle is not better. Sheesh, engage brain first then type

I'd think
….LaDarius Owens is the logical choice to move to linebacker. Don’t think Craig Sanders has quite the lateral speed you need as an SEC linebacker, plus I don’t think he’s ever played there. There’s a huge learning curve with the complexity of modern offenses.
…..Honestly, in this defense going forward, athleticism and depth in the defensive end position is going to be huge. You’ll see a good amount of two-gap technique up front if it’s anything like what Chizik and vanGorder ran at each other back in the early ’aughts. Auburn has a lot more good ends, than linebackers right now.
…..Quick bit of football lore: a gap is the space between two offensive players on the line. In a one-gap system, each defender in the front seven is responsible for a single gap. In a two-gap system, the defender must get control of the offensive player in front of him, and be able to slide over and control the gap to either side of the offensive player. It’s a more challenging concept, but it allows the two outside linebackers to really tee off on ball carriers.
…..The nice thing is that SEC tight ends now must worry about Eguae, Sanders or Sigler slanting outside on those sweeps, and not simply getting up field and pancaking Darren Bates or Jake Holland. You’ll see a lot more of Holland and Bates attacking the runner, rather than facing a wall of blockers that has outflanked the one-gap defenders.
......Drowning in cool elixir.
Do you think Owens moves to LB?
Now that the statue/altar/shrine is up, is it in Sabans contract that he gets to take it with him when he leaves?
With the attrition we had at LB last year,
any thoughts on why he didn’t get any playing time there? Especially in those blow outs?
Curious as to why you think Sanders doesn’t have lateral speed? His performance on special teams is what has intigued me and led me to believe he would be a great backer. He slips blocks very well, changes direction easily without losing momentum and…most importantly….has a nose for the ball and can lay a lick. In my book thats LB stuff.

We're remembering 2010.
……In 2011, the coaches were basically trying to make a “Mike Blanc” pass-rushing defensive tackle out of Sanders. He added weight, and wasn’t nearly as noticeable on special teams, or off the edge. More of an unsung post ‘em up lineman. To move him to linebacker, he’d have to go on a whole grain diet, and run his legs off the next six months.
......Drowning in cool elixir.
Yes...Owens to LB. was thinking the same.
On diamond…what stands out to me is how long his arms are…a very significant trait of good olineman.
you do it and you wipe it up.
Westerman worries me for that very reason
He has stubby arms…..when I saw tape of him last year I saw a young Sam Baker of the Falcons, who was good in college but has sucked in the Pros.
Hopefully Christian will at least duplicate the performance Baker had at USC.
I love the smell of Auburn in the autumn.....it smells like....victory.
Colonel...
You care to make a wager on Westerman? I will tell you this, Westerman will be All-SEC by his junior season. If he stays for his senior year, he will be an All-American and All-SEC first team and he will go no later than the 2nd round of the draft. I’m willing to make an interesting wager on that statement.
It's Auburn against the world. Good luck world.
Anthony Swain?
Could he move up to LB? Or was he slated there anyway? Seems like in 2013 AU will sign 28 LB’s! J/K!!! We could grayshirt ‘em, you know. J/K. Couldn’t help it.
WAR DAMN PANCAKE!
