Auburn Baseball Crushes Georgia 20 - 3 , Wins SEC Series Opener !

Auburn destroyed Georgia 20 - 3 in the season opener Friday March 19th in Athens. The Tigers clinched the two game series with Saturday's 4 - 3 win. Coach John Pawlowski said that the openning win was " ...our most complete game we've had this year."
The winning pitcher Friday was Corey Luckie. Austin Hubbard got the save in Saturday's game. The Tigers record has now improved to 13 - 5.

Ken Rice Former AU All American - Placed on College Football Hall Of Fame Ballot For 2010 ...

Auburn's Ken Rice, a two-time First Team All-America (1959-60) defensive lineman, is one of 77 players and seven coaches who comprise the 2010 Football Bowl Subdivision Ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced today.

Rice, who garnered consensus All-America honors in 1960, was a two-time First Team All-Southeastern Conference selection as well as being named the SEC's best defensive lineman the same year. He helped lead Auburn to a 24-5-1 record during his career.

Cliff Ellis has been a head coach in four different Division I basketball conferences: the Sun Belt (South AlNews)abama), the ACC (Clemson), the SEC (Auburn) and the Big South.
He's now been named coach of the year at least once in all four of them !

Ellis completed the cycle Monday when he was named the Big South coach of the year in a landslide by the league's coaches and media for engineering a remarkable turnaround at Coastal Carolina. (from the Birmingham News)

Head diving coach Jeff Shaffer was named SEC Male Diving Coach of the Year...

... while three student-athletes earned SEC honors, the league office announced.

Senior Kelly Marx was named Male Diver of the Year, Thad Ellis earned Male Freshman Diver of the Year and Jordan Anderson was named Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The Auburn men picked up its SEC-record 14th-straight conference title on Saturday, defeating Florida 784-765.

The honor marks the fifth time Shaffer has been named SEC Coach of the Year, having earned the award four times as the men’s coach and one as the coach of the LSU women’s team. He previously won the award in 2008 after he led Marx to a title on the one-meter springboard and Dan Mazzaferro to the win on the platform. In all, his divers at Auburn have won 14 total SEC titles and nine NCAA titles.

Auburn’s 2010 annual spring football game, A-Day, will be televised live by ESPNU (Channel 302 on Charter cable’s expanded sports tier) on Saturday, April 17.

Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. from Jordan-Hare Stadium.
