PAROLE TIDE PAROLE

Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 02:54:55 PM EDT

A lady in Tuscaloosa calls 911. Hysterically, she says, "Someone's just
broken into my house, and I think he's going to rob me!"
The police officer says, "We're really busy at the moment. Just get the
guys jersey number and we'll get back to you."

Q: What is Nick Saban's biggest concern?
A: Does the NCAA count bail money as a recruiting violation?

Q: What do you call a drug ring in Tuscaloosa ?
A: A huddle

Q: Four Bammer players in a car, who's driving?
A: The police

Q: Why can't most of the Bammer players get into a huddle on the field?
A: It is a parole violation to associate with known felons.

Q: How will the Tide spend the first week of Spring Training?
A: Studying the Miranda Rights

The Bammer team has adopted a new Honor System. Yes, your Honor, No, your Honor.

The Tide had a 7-6 season last year. 7 Arrests, 6 convictions.

The State of Auburn Basketball

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 11:41:41 PM EDT

Tonight, the Auburn men's basketball team lost their game against Georgia, 59-54. It was the last home game of the season, and the last home game for seniors Frank Tolbert and Quan Prowell (as well as Archie Miaway and benchwarmer Adam Luquire). The loss dropped the Tigers to 14-14 overall and 4-11 in SEC play. They likely will not qualify for postseason play, excepting a highly unexpected run through the SEC tournament to the SEC championship. This is Jeff Lebo's fourth team, and he has amassed an overall record of 57-62 and 19-44 in SEC play. His year-by-year totals are 14-17 (4-12), 12-16 (4-12), 17-15 (7-9), and this season, 14-14 (4-11).

2008 Recruiting Stunk for AU

Wed Feb 06, 2008 at 12:48:59 PM EDT

Sorry, guys. Tubs and company blew it, and what we have been hearing for a year is true. Tuberville cannot recruit against Saban. And, to make matters worse, we lost key players to the likes of South Florida, North Carolina, and Ole Miss. Don't give me crap about Tuberville getting players who fit in his system. He lost all 7 head-to-heads against Alabama, and had to settle for a 2-Star LB from Northview High here in Dothan. So, I will say this. Tubs, you'd damn well better beat Bama while you can. We have a leg up on them in experienced talent for now, but no for much longer.

Answer me this....How does a school that has posted the 5th best record in DIV I over the last 5 years look so inept in recruiting?

War Eagle anyway

Break From Football -- Real Life

Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 10:15:57 PM EDT

While I know Auburn fans come from all over the world, but I also know the majority of us are from / in Alabama with many being from the Birmingham area. Those of us from around this area are more than familiar with the Rick and Bubba show. Well, as some of you know, Rick's youngest son (2 years old) tragically drowned last weekend in the family swimming pool during the night. I know for me personally, I've loved these guys in the past and even though I don't hear them here in Auburn anymore, growing up in school with his daughter and meeting the family multiple times, this still broke my heart. Here are the 3 YouTube videos of Rick speaking at the memorial. I CHALLENGE anyone to listen / watch these and not be at least somewhat affected, cause I know they have messed with me a good bit... I hope you will all keep him and his family in your hearts and prayers.

TDs: The Runs Batted In of College Football Statistics (Part Two)

Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 09:49:08 PM EDT

Okay, so last time around, I talked about Points Per Play (PPP) as the football version of Slugging %.  In baseball, OPS (On-Base + Slugging) is one of the most telling, easy, reliable stats around.  It’s great because it’s flexible.  There are two different ways to put together a strong OPS—either by getting on base a lot or by hitting for power—and the best hitters do both.  You find consistency and explosiveness in one measure.

So if PPP is equivalent to Slugging % (explosiveness), what’s equivalent to On-Base % (consistency)?  Success Rate, that’s what.

In its most basic form, Success Rate is simply the percentage of time in which a play is deemed ‘successful’.  It is a measure I culled from Football Outsiders and tweaked to fit my own purposes.  How is ‘success’ determined?

Tuberville being fishy about hiring defensive coordinator.

Sat Jan 12, 2008 at 03:16:29 PM EDT

Is it just me or does it seem like Tuberville is being really quiet about hiring a new defensive coordinator? The nine years  he has been at Auburn he has never been this shy about letting people know whats going on. When he fired Al Borges almost everybody knew right quick that Tony Franklin was gonna take his place. Maybe he is being quiet cause he has someone really good up his sleeve(let hope) or maybe he has no clue who is is gonna get yet. He needs to come up with someone quick cause some recruits are already turning away from Auburn. I really do feel though that he will get someone great, I just wish he would let us know what is going on. WAR EAGLE!!!!

TDs: The Runs Batted In of College Football Statistics (Part One)

Hey, this is The Boy from Rock M Nation.  I posted this over at Sunday Morning QB a couple days ago, but I figured I might as well post it on some other blogs too...let me know what you think.

OFFSEASON PROJECT!  Over at RMN, I’ve been playing with the ‘Beyond the Box Score’ idea (calling it that as an ode to the wonderful SBN sabermetrics blog of the same name) as it applies to college football stats.

I’ve been cranking out play-by-plays for 2007 games as fast as possible—as I post for a Mizzou blog, I’ve focused on Big 12 teams, Mizzou opponents, and teams with fellow Heisman finalists—but this is a massive undertaking, and I need some volunteers to enter play-by-play for the games I have yet to enter from the 2007.  They take about 30-45 minutes each, and I’m figuring I’ll need about 6-10 volunteers to finish this stuff in a timely enough fashion to do something about it before the 2008 season starts orbiting everybody’s attention span, so...actually, how about I just show you why I’m doing this?
