Regime Change?

Auburn is my first love, so why the discontent? I'll tell you why! I didn't wait 9 months to watch Brandon Cox give away two games that we should have won! I am tired of excuses! So, here goes!!

War Eagle!

If you are an Auburn Tigers fan, then you know about the last two weeks. Unless, of course, you were smoking some really good herb that completely distorted your reality. Then to that, I say welcome back. Anyways, the Tigers have struggled this year. The last time I saw a Tiger team perform this badly, I was a lowly freshman trying to boost my GPA in Organic Gardening. Gabe Gross was our quarterback and Terry Bowden had one foot and half a butt cheek out the door. A lot has happened since then. Auburn has made me proud! But, here lately, I have been concerned. It seems to me that the current coaching staff has become increasingly indifferent to losing. It may be just me, but does anyone get that feeling that a coaching change is on the horizon? Tuberville has done well here. I have always defended the Tubs, but things are different. Maybe he is tired or too comfortable, but something needs to be done. My first suggestion would be to relieve Mr. Borges of his duties. I do realize his wife brought us the UnderArmor contract, but seriously, I'd rather win. His play calling is unimaginative and simple. It seems that he has been more concerned with losing 50 lbs. over the offseason than developing new schemes. Let's face it, his playcalling is predictable and sloppy, so to that I say start with Borges. However, if things do not get better, maybe a change at the top is necessary. Who knows? I love Auburn and have supported Tuberville, but I do not know where his heart is. It pains me to say it, but what other choices(down the road) do we have? This is me begging the current staff to do something with the plethora of talent they have!

  • Borges (none / 0)

I've heard a few people complain about his play calling, but I have yet to see concrete examples of why- the attacks seem more a knee-jerk reaction than reasoned argument to me.  I really think that he's doing the best he can with the personnel he has.  When you have a Senior QB that constantly makes freshman mistakes, an offensive line that is plagued by injury and can't pass block well, running backs that can't hold onto the football, and receivers that keep dropping the ball, you aren't going play well on offense.  While the coaching staff may deserve some of the blame, there's only so much they can do.

  • Players need to execute (none / 0)

AU fans have placed entirely too much blame on the coaches.  We have a serious dearth of senior/junior talent and depth.  This lack of talent started with the jetgate recruiting years and has been exacerbated by the attrition of talent due to grades and career ending injuries.  Many of the jetgate recruits left as better talent was brought in during succeeding years, which has left only a few upperclassmen.  Many of the spoiled AU fans don't really know or care about these kinds of details, they are just concerned because they spent a fortune for tickets or are embarassed because they spent too much time making fun of Bama and are now getting a return dose. A weak argument can always be made that it is the coaches fault and the lightly informed will agree.  These fans need to think of the greater good of AU and drop the spoiled selfishness.

The offensive problems are primarily due to a failure of the players to execute.  Many of the original starters have failed to execute for variety of reasons and the 2nd string guys for the most part proved why they were 2nd string.  Many AU fans have screamed for these substitutions and then been even more upset(and further blamed the coaches)when the subs didn't work out.

This rampant substitution has destroyed the offensive continuity.  Substitutions are necessary because of morale, injuries, future training, etc, but too much destroys continuity.  We are going to lose more games this year: We will survive! The coaches will need to find the players that will execute on the most consistent basis(and forget the fans expectations) and build continuity.

Because of our linebacker injuries (we're down to 2nd and 3rd string). I think that N. Mex St. wiil pass and score on us more than we would normally expect.  The offense will have to be able to score easily on their weak defense in oorder to keepup.
