The 1984 Florida State game in Tallahassee is without question the best game that was never seen by most Auburn fans. It’s my all time favorite. Despite pairing two top twenty teams, no networks picked up the game – what a shame.

No, it didn’t have the importance of an Alabama or Georgia match-up, but for sheer excitement, it’s the best I’ve ever witnessed.

It was a seesaw battle that went back and fourth for four quarters. Auburn came into the game ranked 16th after starting the season number one in both polls. FSU was ranked ninth. The Tigers were a sizable underdog. Brent Fullwood scored the winning touchdown with seconds to go. Enjoy...

.....This was one of the handful of games I've missed, in the last 35 years. No radio, at all. My little ancient 1970-model American Flag AM radio had crapped out, and I hadn't replaced it. I was at an old-style Dungeons and Dragons game. One fellow Auburn nut there had a radio, and was going nuts listening to it. He told it so well, that in the 4th quarter, we stopped in the middle of a big melee, and listened to his rendition.

.....During the D&D game, some players in the back ranks of the party had gotten bored, and kicked open two more doors besides the one that that we were fighting up front. Three sets of monsters beating on us, and Auburn was in the fight of their lives in Tallahassee. Cool night, as it turned out.

.....1984 was sort of a lost year, really. It was the last year of the wishbone, at Auburn. We were nervous about breaking in a new QB (Pat Washington), and then Bo went out in the second game of the season with a separated shoulder. That was Texas, in Austin. We were off to an 0-2 start, and our best player in history, on the shelf. Dark times, or so it seemed.

.....But then, we rung up 6 straight wins, to salvage the season. It was a no-name halfback attack, featuring Kyle Collins, Brent Fullwood, Colis Campbell, and Tim Jessee. Great times! Well, except for Robert McGinty's FG miss against 4-6 Bama.

.....That Texas game featured an early "Will Muschamp-type" moment. Texas head coach Fred Akers was caught by the cameras and mikes, live on the sideline, yelling at his QB: "I'm trying to send you signals, and you're giving me this crap!" Akers accompanied this comment with an animated masturbation gesture...

Those names bring back a lot of good memories. You are right, it was sort of a lost year.  Kyle Collins was one of my favorites.  He was as tough as they come. I went down to the game with me Aunt and Uncle.  I guess was in high school.  Fullwood scored right in front of us.  Awesome game.

I wasn't even a college football fan until the next year when I enrolled on the Plains, so I never knew about this game until some time later.  It's very interesting to see a lot of the players from my freshman year in this film.

I had forgotten how well Pat Washington, the QB (10) could run.  Brent Fullwood (22) looked like he had a great game.  That kickoff fumble right from Fullwood into the hands of #21 was incredible.  Looks like Fast Freddy Weygand (14) had a few clutch catches, too.

I don't know who #38 was, or #23, both RBs.  I'm sure Acid will fill me in forthwith...

Was there ever any doubt that Fullwood was going to score the game winner, with both Tommy Agee (30) and another back out in front plowing the way?  I think not!
